Rebirth in Journey to the West: Sun Wukong

Chapter 306: 306: Spatial Storm (First Update)

Chapter 306: Chapter 306: Spatial Storm (First Update)

“Ancestral Buddha, that Demon Monkey Sun Wukong has indeed fallen into the Endless Abyss, enveloped by spatial thunder,”

a hint of satisfaction at vengeance prevailed in the eyes of Ran Deng Buddha as the corners of his mouth turned up ever so slightly. Guanyin Bodhisattva had a faint movement at her brow center, and a fleeting, unusual divine light flashed through her eyes.

“Certain death, no life?”

Tathagata Buddha pondered, his right hand composing a Dharma Decree, calculating. After a moment, he slightly shook his head, “Still can’t deduce, the life trajectory of that Demon Monkey Sun Wukong is not within the trajectory of fate, his life and death cannot be predicted.”

“Cannot be predicted? Are you saying that Demon Monkey is still alive? How is this possible? Under the bombardment of spatial thunder, there has never been anyone who has survived!”

Doubt was painted across Ran Deng Buddha’s face. Not to mention Sun Wukong, even if he himself fell into that Endless Abyss, he would be blasted into dust by the endless spatial thunder. Sun Wukong was merely at the half-step Quasi-Saint Realm, and even with his combat power defying the heavens and possessing the Diamond Indestructible Body, he still hadn’t reached the state of the Undying Golden Body of a Heavenly Dao Saint. How could he possibly withstand the bombardment of spatial thunder?

A few bolts of thunder would strip away his three flowers atop and his five chis within; Sun Wukong would have become a cripple, unable to withstand the force of thunder, definitely to be reduced to dust!

The Tathagata Buddha made no indication to agree or disagree. According to common sense, unless one reached the Heavenly Dao Saint Realm or cultivated the Undying Golden Body, without the protection of the Great Dao, indeed it’s impossible to withstand the spatial thunder that strips away cultivation. Once cultivation is stripped away, it’s time for death and the obliteration of one’s Dao. However, Sun Wukong’s fate was not within the trajectory of fate, which already defied common sense. From ancient primeval times to the present, such an anomaly has only occurred this once; who could guarantee his definite death in the Endless Abyss?

What if that Demon Monkey survives?

Tathagata Buddha said no more. Whether Sun Wukong was alive or dead, time would prove the truth. If indeed he didn’t die, he would certainly reappear within the Three Realms. Truth be told, Tathagata Buddha rather hoped Sun Wukong wouldn’t just perish like this. The third Infinite Calamity was fast approaching, and Buddhahood’s flourishing was the best opportunity. Journeying West to Seek Scriptures, spreading Buddhist teachings, needed a powerful Scripture Protector, and Sun Wukong was the most suitable candidate in Tathagata Buddha’s mind.

As for the possibility of subduing Sun Wukong, Tathagata Buddha wasn’t worried at all. However defiant against the heavens Sun Wukong was, he was currently only at the half-step Quasi-Saint level of Cultivation. As long as he hadn’t Proven the Tao and Become a Saint, he definitely wouldn’t be his match. By using forceful measures to subdue and restrict him, there was no fear that he wouldn’t submit!

“Ancestral Buddha, the Jade Emperor plans to send troops to besiege Flower-Fruit Mountain in half a year, shall we get involved?”

Malice flashed in Ran Deng Buddha’s eyes as he proposed to Tathagata Buddha.

“No need! That is a matter between the Heavenly Court and Flower-Fruit Mountain. Our Western Heavenly Buddhist Sect should not interfere!”

Tathagata Buddha shook his head. He obviously knew what was on Ran Deng Buddha’s mind; he had suffered a great loss at Flower-Fruit Mountain last time and wanted to regain his face!

But times had changed. After Sun Wukong’s havoc in the Heavenly Palace, the Jade Emperor would definitely be extremely wary of Flower-Fruit Mountain. If he decided to attack again, he would surely use the true strength of the Heavenly Court. At such a time, it would be inappropriate for the Buddhist Sect to intervene, risking being seen by the Jade Emperor as a provocation, which could lead to loss rather than gain.

“Ancient Buddha, if you can’t let it go, you may go to watch the battle on your own. But remember not to act rashly!”

“Understood, thank you, Ancestral Buddha!”

Ran Deng Buddha’s lips curled into a sinister smile; as long as Tathagata Buddha did not stop him from going, that was all that mattered! Sun Wukong, the humiliation you inflicted on me, I will reclaim it all doubly from your Flower-Fruit Mountain Demon Race. This is the retribution of karma!

In the Endless Abyss.

Sun Wukong drifted within the spatial thunder, a Great Dao mark shining faintly on his brow, a sign that the Great Dao Runes, which stripped Cultivation within the spatial thunder, were being assimilated by the Chaos Primordial Force and condensed into Great Dao markings. The marks were converging in his brow’s Mud Pill Palace and integrating with the Destruction Great Dao he comprehended; once this integration was complete, the power of Wukong’s Heaven-Breaking Domain would certainly rise to a new level.

Throughout the Endless Abyss were restrictions on flying, and the Cloud Riding and Wind Commanding Art was utterly unusable here. Sun Wukong no longer remembered how long he had been here; initially he kept falling downward, then from all directions, strange airflows came blowing him up and down, left and right, aimlessly drifting in the Endless Abyss, completely without control.

Sun Wukong also tried to control his body, but eventually gave up. In this Endless Abyss, he was like a mere mortal who knew nothing of flying, forced to drift along, blown about by airflows from every direction, all efforts in vain.

The Immortal-Slaying Sword had already been refined by Sun Wukong, and together with the Sword of Annihilation and the Sword of Trapping Immortals, it was gestating within his dantian. Now Sun Wukong was only missing the Sword of Slaying Immortal. The Sword of Slaying Immortal and the Immortal-Slaying Formation Diagram were both in Luo Bai’s hands, and combining them into the Immortal-Slaying Sword Formation later on wouldn’t be difficult. That formation, which required the presence of four saints to break, was the most potent killing formation of the Primeval age. With the Immortal-Slaying Sword Formation at his disposal, he need not fear Tathagata Buddha any longer. After all, the Three Realms of today were no longer the same as during the era of the Divine Enthronement, and without the Three Purities taking action, assembling four great saints was virtually impossible.

‘The Immortal-Slaying Sword Formation, thinking about it does sound splendid, but I, Old Sun, don’t even know how to get out of this damned place, all these are nothing but wishful thinking!’ he thought.

The moment he considered his current predicament, the heat in Sun Wukong’s heart was as if doused by a bucket of cold water—nobody knew how long he would drift in this Endless Abyss!

Hum~!

Suddenly, a pulling force appeared in front of him to the left. Sun Wukong was startled, and his expression changed drastically—it was a spatial suction force!

This wasn’t the first time Sun Wukong had encountered such spatial suction. Inside the Endless Abyss were spatial nodes leading to other worlds, which would sometimes expand to form spatial passages and generate tremendous suction, drawing everything nearby inside.

However, these expanses of spatial nodes that formed spatial passages were unstable; many of them harbored spatial storms within. Anything sucked inside would have to endure the baptism of a spatial storm, and they would be pulverized once more. The spatial passages Sun Wukong had previously encountered all had spatial storms raging inside, which he saw clearly after piercing through the spatial barrier with his Void-Breaking Starry Eyes.

Every time a spatial suction appeared, the restriction against flying within the Endless Abyss would weaken, allowing Sun Wukong to briefly control his form. He always kept his distance, never getting sucked into these spatial passages. But this time, the spatial suction that emerged was too sudden, and its force was much stronger than any he had encountered before, leaving him no chance to evade it!

‘Ruyi Divine Armor!’

If it was unavoidable, then there was no point in dodging. Continuously dodging like this was no guarantee of when he would be able to leave this forsaken Endless Abyss. The strong suction of this spatial passage indicated that it likely led to a world that was no ordinary place. Perhaps he could find a way back to the main world of the Three Realms.

The Ruyi Divine Armor had previously helped Sun Wukong fend off the overwhelming attack from hordes of Immortals and Gods. It had sustained some damage and, falling into the Endless Demon Abyss, Sun Wukong found that the Spatial Thunder could not harm him, so he retracted the Ruyi Divine Armor back into his body for recuperation. Now, however, facing the need to pass through the spatial storm in the passage, Sun Wukong felt unsure relying solely on his Chaotic Divine Body to resist firmly. It was prudent to have the protection of the Ruyi Divine armor.

After the Ruyi Divine Armor manifested on the surface of his body, it expanded under the control of Sun Wukong’s thoughts, covering all gaps. Aside from his face, it offered full-spectrum protection over his entire body. Sun Wukong then gave up resisting the spatial suction and allowed himself to be pulled into the spatial passage.

Booming!

No sooner had he entered the spatial passage than he heard a thunderous rumble coming from ahead. Sun Wukong looked up, activating his Void-Breaking Divine Eye to the fourth phase, the Void-Breaking Starry Eyes state, making the darkness ahead bright and clear. The thunderous rumble was emanating from the spatial storm.

‘How can this spatial storm be so immense?’

Without looking, it wouldn’t have mattered, but with one look, Sun Wukong nearly bit his own tongue—swirling within the passage ahead was a spatial storm, much larger than any he had encountered in other passages. The tearing force of space it contained gave Sun Wukong the chills even from a great distance. Passing through such a storm was like crawling out of a meat grinder; just the thought made his calves tremble with fear.

‘Never mind that! I have to fight it out anyway, I, Old Sun, don’t believe that such a petty spatial storm could hold me back!’

He was already within the spatial passage, and there was no turning back. Escape was impossible in the face of this mighty suction that Sun Wukong couldn’t withstand. Taking a deep breath, he fully activated the Eight-Nine Profound Skill, with Chaos Primordial Force rapidly circulating within him, forming a protective Primordial Force shield that spread out. His form shifted, as Sun Wukong actively rushed into the spatial storm ahead, following the force of suction.

Crack, crack, crack!

As soon as he plunged into the spatial storm, endless blades of spatial force struck the Primordial Force shield with a dense crackling. Sparks flew everywhere on the shield, and Sun Wukong’s body was buffeted so violently from the impact that he nearly lost control of his posture.

‘Ruyi Golden-Hooped Rod!’

Grinding his teeth, Sun Wukong reached into his ear and pulled out the Ruyi Golden-Hooped Rod. With a loud shout, he swung it, deflecting all the spatial blades attacking from the front and, bearing the hits at his back and sides, he charged forward.
