Chapter 317: Chapter 317: Blinded Your Dog Eyes (First Update)
“Who said I have no way to take it down? It’s just a little rabbit, I, I have plenty of methods …” Duanmu Bai countered somewhat indignantly, yet it was quite apparent he was lacking confidence. Sun Wukong watched silently from the side, the corner of his mouth curling up in a sneer, and then his gaze fell on the demon core in Huang Zhen’s hand.
“Is this the demon core? It really contains a ton of energy, but it seems rather impure with some impurities …”
Stepping forward, Sun Wukong’s eyes flashed with a golden light as he activated his Void-Breaking Starry Eyes and observed the demon core closely. This gray-black demon core was crystalline, with spiraling spaces within, each layer containing a tremendous amount of energy in a semi-solid state, flowing slowly. Sun Wukong roughly estimated that the energy within this single demon core could replenish the Primordial Force of the Taiyi Scattered Immortal up to ten times; even for a Taiyi Golden Immortal realm powerhouse, fully absorbing it would completely replenish their depleted Primordial Force.
Indeed, the demon core contained a considerable amount of energy, which was quite rare. However, it seemed impure with some mixed elements, requiring additional filtering during absorption, although it was still easier than directly absorbing Demon Spirit Qi.
“If you don’t understand, stop pretending! This is a Demon Marshal Level demon core, I bet you’ve never seen such a high-level demon core in your life, have you?”
Duanmu Bai, as if he had found an outlet for his anger, coldly snorted at Sun Wukong and began his usual diatribe, “Claiming to be strong and resilient, but so far you haven’t lifted a finger. I’ve seen many shameless people, but someone as brazen as you, I’m seeing for the first time! What, eyeing the demon core and wanting a piece of the action? Let me tell you, forget it! No effort, no right to share the spoils!”
“Did I ever say I wanted a share?”
A glint of cold light passed through Sun Wukong’s eyes as he looked defiantly back at Duanmu Bai. He had been putting up with this guy all along, but now that they had entered the Myriad Beast Mountains, he was not going to tolerate it anymore!
“Don’t measure the breadth of my gentlemanly heart with your petty mind. For a demon core like this, I don’t even consider it worth my attention. It’s merely out of curiosity. Mr. Duanmu, I don’t want to stoop to your level, but do you really think I’m afraid of you? Set some ground rules if you want, but someone like you, you are not fit to raise your voice at me, you blind fool!”
Sun Wukong’s unreserved tirade turned Duanmu Bai’s face green with rage. Throughout their journey, Sun Wukong had kept quiet, no matter how Duanmu Bai mocked and jeered. So why had his temper grown so sharp upon entering the Myriad Beast Mountains?
It was outrageous for a mere Demon Marshal to speak to Young Master Duanmu in such a manner, truly courting death!
“My surname is Duanmu, not Duan! Kid, you’re courting death, and for that, you can’t blame me!”@@novelbin@@
From a young age, no one had dared to speak to him like that. Duanmu Bai’s face twisted with malice as he brandished his broadsword in front of him, ready to launch an attack against Sun Wukong.
“This is the Myriad Beast Mountains, not a place for you to fight. If you want to fight, wait until you’ve got a chance to leave here alive!”
Huang Zhen, who had been always tolerant, was suddenly taken aback by Sun Wukong’s unexpected assertiveness. She quickly stepped in front of Duanmu Bai to stop him as the tension between the two men escalated to the brink of a fight.
This was the Myriad Beast Mountains, the territory of various high-rank demonic beasts. Did these two fools want to attract every powerful beast around by fighting here? They were simply causing trouble!
“Miss Huang, step aside, I must take down this brat today!”
“Enough!”
Duanmu Bai was about to act when Huang Zhen’s face darkened, and she barked sternly, “Duanmu Bai, you’ve provoked enough trouble all the way here. Don’t lose sight of what’s important! If you attract powerful beasts here, even as a high-ranked Demon Spirit, you won’t be able to hold them off! You want to die, that’s your business, don’t drag everyone down with you!”
“Damn it!”
Duanmu Bai was seething. Under normal circumstances, he would have beheaded anyone who dared to shout at him, but since it was Huang Zhen, whom he had always wanted to get his hands on, he couldn’t afford to offend her too much before achieving his goal. Thus, he could only glare fiercely at Sun Wukong and sheathe his broadsword, hissing, “Lucky for you, kid! In consideration of Miss Huang’s face, I won’t hold this against you today! Just you wait, there’ll come a time when you’ll be crying and begging on the ground!”
To such threats from Duanmu Bai, Sun Wukong merely smiled. Such intimidation didn’t faze him in the slightest. In fact, he was keen for Duanmu Bai to make a move, itching to stretch his muscles which hadn’t seen action for some days now, leaving him feeling a bit restless.
Duanmu Bai turned and walked ahead, continuing on the path Huang Zhen had pointed out. Huang Zhen shot Sun Wukong a glance and frowned, “You’re no match for him, so don’t provoke him. I can protect you this time, but I can’t always be there for you. Watch yourself!”
After speaking, Huang Zhen turned and walked toward Chai Pengyu and Hou Jie, her mind puzzled as to why she always found herself defending Sun Wukong. Normally, with her temperament, she would have kicked someone like him out of the team long ago. Was it because of that strange feeling in her heart?
For some reason, Huang Zhen always felt that Sun Wukong was not as simple as he seemed on the surface. It was as if he hid something beyond her comprehension. She couldn’t tell if it was just an illusion.
“Let’s go. We’ll slowly make our way deeper inside. The higher the rank of the demonic beasts gets the deeper we go into the Myriad Beast Mountains, so we need to progress step by step. If we rush ahead too fast, it’ll be tough to get back out.”
Huang Zhen called out to the others and pointed towards the canyon ahead, “Let’s take that path. I remember there being a trail through the canyon that leads between the outer and inner border areas of the Myriad Beast Mountains. The massive demonic beasts can’t fit through there, so it should be safer.”
Sun Wukong shrugged his shoulders, showing no objection to Huang Zhen’s suggestion. The jade disk map given to him by Jiang He, the City Lord of Fenan, only had a rough overview and a miniature of the terrain. There wasn’t much recorded about the inner parts of the Myriad Beast Mountains. He decided to follow Huang Zhen and the others for now, planning to venture off on his own later to find the whereabouts of the Heaven-Defying Demon Emperor Mu Chenxuan and his companions.
Chai Pengyu and Hou Jie were already Huang Zhen’s faithful followers, and they naturally had no objections to her decision. They also knew that Huang Zhen’s decision was a sound one, being the most prudent and efficient route. As for Duanmu Bai, if Huang Zhen were to declare the sun in the sky square, he wouldn’t have any objections either. So the group of five headed towards the canyon as Huang Zhen had directed.
“Eh?”
As they were walking through the canyon, Sun Wukong suddenly let out a light sound of surprise, his eyes narrowing as he turned to look up at the cliff. A flash of gold shimmered in his eyes as he elevated the Void-Breaking Divine Eye to its Void-Breaking Starry Eyes state and began to scan the area.
“What’s wrong?”
Huang Zhen, who was walking in front of Sun Wukong, stopped and turned to look at him.
“It seems like something is watching us…”
Sun Wukong said uncertainly. He had been keeping the Void-Breaking Divine Eye active, and although he had indeed seen a black shadow flash past the top of the cliff and then disappear, he was sure that it wasn’t an illusion.
“Something watching us? Where? I don’t see it!”
Huang Zhen looked around and didn’t notice anything amiss, which led her to question with some curiosity, “Could you have seen it wrong?”
“Ms. Huang, only you would believe the nonsense from this guy. If something was spying on us, wouldn’t I have noticed?”
Duanmu Bai sneered, “Sun, if you want to impress a woman, it’s through genuine skill, not such lowly tricks. Your performance is just too crude!”
Sun Wukong, however, didn’t bite at Duanmu Bai’s provocation. He continued to search with his Void-Breaking Starry Eyes, and finally spotted a figure rapidly moving along the rocks at the base of the cliff towards them, with Duanmu Bai as its immediate target!
Originally, he intended to alert the others, but then he thought better of it. Duanmu Bai thought he was so mighty, so let him share an intimate moment with the attacking demonic beast. Let’s see if he would still dare to walk around with his nose in the air every day!
“Kid, why so quiet? Didn’t you say something was watching us? Where is it? I’m telling you… oh my god!”
Duanmu Bai was still prattling on when a black shadow suddenly burst out from the adjacent stone wall. It shot towards him like an arrow, abruptly swallowing his words in a cry of alarm and hurriedly raised his broad longsword to block the shadow.
Clang!
A dull sound rang out as the shadow was repelled and returned to the top of the cliff, revealing its form. It was a demonic beast with the head of a tiger and a body like that of a pangolin, covered all over in spikes, and a tail similar to a scorpion’s. It was ranked as a Taiyi Golden Immortal or at the Demon Spirit Level, which was equivalent to Duanmu Bai’s cultivation. Now, it clung firmly to the cliff with its limbs, its fierce gaze locked onto Duanmu Bai, emitting a low growl reminiscent of a tiger, seemingly annoyed by its failure to successfully ambush Duanmu Bai just now.
“It’s a Scorpion Tiger! And it’s a Demon Spirit Level Scorpion Tiger at that! Duanmu Bai, be careful, this creature is very dangerous!”
The faces of Huang Zhen and the others paled. A Demon Spirit Level Scorpion Tiger was not something they could contend with. Its spike-like scale armor, which tightened around its body, provided formidable defense. Normal attacks hitting it were akin to scratching an itch. Moreover, it had incredible speed, capable of moving rapidly through rock and earth as if it were flat ground, and it could also use powerful Earth System spells.
Moreover, it could spray black flames from its tiger head, highly corrosive, and the scorpion-like stinger contained deadly poison. A single sting would be too much even for a Demon Lord to withstand.
