Rebirth in Journey to the West: Sun Wukong

Chapter 323: 323: They Are Safe, So Are You (First Update)

Chapter 323: Chapter 323: They Are Safe, So Are You (First Update)

“Big lizard, do you know the way to the forbidden land?”

Sun Wukong’s murderous aura faded as he turned to the Thunderclap Demon Dragon and asked.

“I know, I know! Do you, great one, want me to lead the way?”

The Thunderclap Demon Dragon was not foolish—it understood from Sun Wukong’s words that he most likely wanted it to guide him.

“You’re quite clever! Indeed, I, Old Sun, need you to take me deep into the Myriad Beast Mountains to the forbidden land. As long as you guide me there honestly, I will let you go; otherwise…”

“Don’t worry, great one, I will definitely lead the way properly, with absolutely no tricks!”

Without waiting for Sun Wukong to finish, the Thunderclap Demon Dragon quickly nodded in understanding and promised vigorously, swinging its big head.

“That’s best!”

Sun Wukong nodded in satisfaction and turned to look at Huang Zhen and the others, slightly furrowing his brow as he said, “You guys don’t need to follow Old Sun in there. There’s no shortage of powerful demonic beasts deep in the Myriad Beast Mountains, and it’s very unsafe for you to stay here. You’d better leave quickly!”

“But, Great Sage, I…”

Huang Zhen opened her mouth, wanting to offer her help, but she was well aware that she couldn’t help Sun Wukong at all and, in fact, would only hinder him. She couldn’t bring herself to finish her sentence.

“Big sister, the Great Sage is right. Our cultivation is too weak to be of any help to him. Following him would only cause him trouble. Let’s continue hunting for demon cores on the outskirts and wait for the Great Sage to come out!”

Chai Pengyu, being the most attentive, understood Huang Zhen’s concerns for Sun Wukong and hastened to persuade her. Hou Jie chimed in from the side, and reluctantly, Huang Zhen agreed but still looked at Sun Wukong with a soft voice full of worry, “Great Sage, you must be very careful. We… we will be waiting for you outside!”

“Haha, there’s no one in this world who can keep Old Sun!”

Sun Wukong, unaware of Huang Zhen’s anomaly, burst into hearty laughter and directed his gaze toward Duanmu Bai.

“Great Sage, I will follow Miss Huang to ensure their safety until you safely return!”

Duanmu Bai shuddered under Sun Wukong’s gaze and quickly pounded his chest in assurance, afraid that Sun Wukong would ask him to venture into the deepest parts of the Myriad Beast Mountains with him. That could be fatal!

“Of course, Old Sun trusts that you will do your utmost to keep them safe because only if they are safe will you be safe!”

Sun Wukong’s mouth curled into a smile.

“Ah? What?”

Duanmu Bai was stunned, not quite understanding Sun Wukong’s meaning, when he saw Sun Wukong flick his finger and a beam of golden light shot toward his body. A slight pain ignited in his lower abdomen as the golden light entered him, and soon after, three more beams of golden light emanated from Sun Wukong’s finger, merging into the bodies of Huang Zhen and the other two.

“Great Sage, what is this?”@@novelbin@@

Duanmu Bai was alarmed as he felt a strange energy enter his dantian. Although it caused no harm to his body, the demon primordial force within him was useless against this foreign energy. When he tried to cultivate it out of his system, the demon primordial force was absorbed upon contact with the energy, becoming part of it and noticeably increasing its size.

“If I were you, I wouldn’t resist!”

Sun Wukong’s face still bore a faint smile. “This is a prohibition that Old Sun has placed in you. As long as Huang Zhen and the other two are safe, you will be safe. If any one of them encounters an accident, the prohibition will sense it and activate, causing your body to explode into nothingness! And by the way, a reminder: only Old Sun can remove this prohibition. If you try to remove it yourself, you will only cause it to gather enough power to activate prematurely, and if you lose your life, you can’t blame Old Sun!”

“Ah?”

Duanmu Bai was utterly flabbergasted. Sun Wukong had actually placed such a sinister prohibition inside him—it was outright coercion! If any of the three—Huang Zhen, Chai Pengyu, or Hou Jie—perished, the prohibition in his body would erupt, and he would be doomed to death by association. He couldn’t act but had to protect the three with all his might. Sun Wukong was effectively binding him to their side as their bodyguard!

“Oh, there’s one more thing, don’t leave the Myriad Beast Mountains. This Prohibition can’t be too far from your Great Sage Equalling Heaven, otherwise, it will act up.”

As if he had just remembered something, Sun Wukong took a couple of steps, then stopped and turned back to add one more thing for Duanmu Bai. He then leapt onto the back of the Thunderclap Demon Dragon. The dragon flapped its mighty wings, creating a gust of wind that lifted its huge body, and took to the sky toward the deeper parts of the Myriad Beast Mountains.

“Damn, this is practically ordering my death!”

With a wail, Duanmu Bai collapsed to the ground, nearly bursting into tears, his heart filled with immense regret. He had been doing fine at home, enjoying his life as the second young master of the Duanmu Clan. What on earth had made him decide to leave and travel? Even if he decided to travel, why visit the Demon Beast Continent? And upon coming here, why did he covet Huang Zhen’s beauty and join the what’s-its-name Rose Mercenary Group? And having joined, why did he have to foolishly provoke Sun Wukong, the star of calamity?

Now he was thoroughly under someone’s thumb, not daring to leave! He had to tread carefully and ensure the safety of Huang Zhen and the other two, otherwise, he might lose his life at any time!

My God, why is the life of I, Duanmu Bai, so bitter!

“Hey, Duanmu Bai, save your lamenting for later, we need to leave now. Otherwise, if just one Demonic Beast comes out, we’re all as good as dead!”

Hou Jie’s voice snapped Duanmu Bai out of his endless sorrow and regret. Duanmu Bai followed Hou Jie’s gaze and shuddered; the middle and high-rank Demonic Beasts in the distance weren’t causing any trouble for now, simply because they were intimidated by Sun Wukong’s terrifying power. Once they recovered their senses, wouldn’t they turn them into snacks?

They had to leave, and immediately!

With a “whoosh,” Duanmu Bai jumped up and hurriedly urged Huang Zhen and the others to take to the air. They flew over the river and toward the canyon they’d come from. Given their strength, it was safer to stick to the outskirts. Duanmu Ci didn’t want to end up sacrificing his life for the safety of Huang Zhen and the others. He was still waiting for Sun Wukong to return and lift the Prohibition!

“Great Sage Equalling Heaven, you must come back alive. I’m still waiting for you to remove this Prohibition!”

Never before had Duanmu Bai hoped so earnestly for Sun Wukong to return safely. With the death of Huang Zhen and the others, he was bound to a shared fate. And if something were to happen to Sun Wukong deep in the Myriad Beast Mountains, who could lift the seal for him? Wouldn’t he be doomed to the same fate? Great Sage Grandpa, you mustn’t let anything happen to you—I, this young master, haven’t lived enough yet!

As darkness gradually fell, the Thunderclap Demon Dragon flying in the sky suddenly landed, setting down in an open area. Sun Wukong kicked the back of the Thunderclap Demon Dragon with some curiosity: “Big lizard, why aren’t you flying anymore?”

“Great One, we can’t fly any further. Ahead is the heart of the Myriad Beast Mountains, and the Heavenly Demon Dragon has strictly forbidden any Demonic Beast from flying in the core area. Violators will be shown no mercy!”

The Thunderclap Demon Dragon looked terrified, and the look in its eyes as it glanced toward the core area was one of fear that seemed to stem from the depths of its soul. It seemed that the hierarchical suppression among the Demonic Beasts was even more severe than in the Three Realms or within the Demon Race. Perhaps it wasn’t only about rank supremacy; with the word ‘dragon’ in its name, the Heavenly Demon Dragon must also be a member of the Dragon Race—and likely of the most elite lineage—otherwise, it couldn’t have cultivated to the Demon Saint Realm. As a member of the same Dragon Race, the Thunderclap Demon Dragon would surely be suppressed by the other’s bloodline and likely wouldn’t even dare to entertain a thought of resistance.

“So what you’re saying is, we have to continue on foot from here?”

Sun Wukong looked at the dense jungle ahead and then at the Thunderclap Demon Dragon, frowning slightly. “With your size, the amount of noise you’d make passing through the woods—wouldn’t that be like telling the Heavenly Demon Dragon we’ve entered? Or is it that this was your intention all along?”

As he spoke, Sun Wukong’s gaze turned icy cold.

“No, no, no!”

The Thunderclap Demon Dragon hastily shook its head. “Great One, I never had such thoughts, absolutely not!”

The Dragon’s body flickered, and suddenly it shrank to the size of a fine steed; its wings tucked away. “Great One, we can enter like this without alarming the Heavenly Demon Dragon. He usually sleeps very deeply; without significant disturbances, he won’t be awakened.”

“Huh, I didn’t realize you had the ability to transform.”

Sun Wukong looked at the Thunderclap Demon Dragon with some surprise. Then again, it made sense — the dragon was of Demon Venerable Level, equivalent to the Da Luo Golden Realm, so knowing how to change size was not all that surprising. It seemed he had underestimated the intelligence of Demonic Beasts.

“Alright, lead the way!”

Sun Wukong shifted from sitting to riding on the back of the Thunderclap Demon Dragon, giving a light pat on the side of its head. Feeling the murderous intent coming from Sun Wukong subsiding, the dragon heaved a sigh of relief and darted into the dense woods, heading towards the depths of the core area of the Myriad Beast Mountains.

Deep within the Myriad Beast Mountains, above a giant volcanic crater, flashes of Elemental Force appeared from time to time, revealing a circular Seal that firmly enclosed the entire crater. This was the forbidden area of the Myriad Beast Mountains, the entrance to the Nine Nether Demon Cave.

The Nine Nether Demon Cave was in fact a volcanic crater, situated atop a massive volcano, on which the entire Myriad Beast Mountains were located. It was an extinct volcano, having not erupted for millions of years. The core of the Nine Nether Demon Cave was not molten rock from the earth’s mantle, but rather a deep blue Flame, the Nine Nether Demon Fire.

This Nine Nether Demon Fire was somewhat similar to the Netherworld Ghost Fire of the Three Realms—it belonged to the category of cold flames, not emitting fierce fiery heat, but an icy chill that could turn a person directly into ice powder.
