Rebirth: Leading Families to Survive in the Apocalypse

Chapter 361: 361 Lin Yunguo Gets Angry

Chapter 361: Chapter 361 Lin Yunguo Gets Angry

In the Wood Spirit Space, the family was having dinner and chatting.

After learning that Su Jin and the rest had finally arrived at the E-city base, Su Xiangzhe even opened a bottle of wine, saying a few of the men should celebrate together.

“If you want to drink, just say so – no need for a celebration,” Mrs. Su Lin Tianhui gave him a look.

“Hehe, I just found some good wine Xiao Jin had brought into the space, figured we’d have some while we’re happy,”

Su Xiangzhe’s suggestion was greatly supported by the gentlemen, and even Lu Hao joined them in drinking.

Su Jin didn’t oppose it, as everyone was resting in the space tonight, and even if they got drunk, there would be enough time for them to rest afterward.

“Has anything chaotic happened at Guo Yang’s store these past few days?” Su Jin asked while eating a piece of soy-braised beef.

“How could there be any chaos? We all go there to help during the day. Business is better than usual, and the fastest selling item is still rice. Plus, we’ve started letting people bring their own containers to measure the rice, just like Tianzhen suggested, so we no longer need to worry about running out of bags,”

Huang Yunxiang said, as if marveling at a miracle. Now, the people at the base seemed convinced that rice was the most cost-effective and easiest to store supply, and loose rice had become a hot commodity at Guo Yang’s store.

Moreover, as the population at the S-city base grew, people had to queue up to buy rice from Guo Yang’s store.

Some even theorized that the rice in Guo Yang’s space would one day run out, leading everyone to start hoarding rice at the store, and Guo Yang, feeling helpless, had to put up a purchasing limit sign; otherwise, he was really worried that the rice would be sold out before Su Jin came back.

“It’s good to have a purchase limit; otherwise, people might overthink it,” Su Jin conceded.

“Yeah, I think we could also start supplying a small amount of flour since the next batch of wheat looks like it’s about to mature,”

Lin Tianzhen said, and then several women looked together towards the shining wheat field outside the Lu Residence, the crops looking promising indeed!

“Cough, we could. There should still be some flour in Guo Yang’s space, so maybe he could sell that too,”

Su Jin noticed that Li Xiuying kept worrying while looking at the wheat field outside, so she quickly tried to divert her attention.

“The last time, I saw Wan Li and her brother Wan Peng. They seemed really pitiful. I don’t know where they are now or if they’ll go to the base,”

Li Xiuying said, concerned.

“Grandma, it won’t happen so soon, both of them have survived in the Apocalypse for so long and they’re not bad with their hands, they’re surely fine,”

Su Jin comforted her. She didn’t think there was anything wrong with Grandma thinking this way. Elderly people indeed felt more deeply about such things, and in recent days, the topics between Grandpa and Grandma had gradually increased. She always heard them discussing the people and events they encountered on the road when they went out together. It seemed beneficial to take them out more often.

Li Xiuying nodded after hearing this, hoping so. Every time she thought of the two siblings, she likened them to Su Jin and Lin Xiuyuan, both making their way through the Apocalypse, hoping those two siblings were doing well.

“Grandma, why don’t I take you and Grandpa around this base tomorrow?” Xiuyuan suggested.

He had already planned it; they could split up so that Su Jin and the rest could look for Dr. Pei’s information while he accompanied Grandpa and Grandma around the base, getting to know the place too.

“Wouldn’t we be noticed since we haven’t registered?” Lin Yunguo asked, worried.

“Grandpa and Grandma, don’t worry, it’s fine. We still have some old clothes stored in the space; I’ll look for them later. Besides, with so many people coming and going in the base, no one will notice,”

Hearing Xiuyuan’s plan, Su Jin also expressed her full approval. The E-city base wasn’t large, and with Xiuyuan accompanying Grandpa and Grandma, she felt reassured.

“I also want to go with Brother Xiuyuan to accompany Grandpa and Grandma,”

Mao Qiqi raised her hand and said, wanting to go shopping too.

“Let Qiqi come with us, she’d definitely find the administrative building boring,” Lin Xiuyuan suggested.

So, after some discussion, it was decided that Su Jin, Lu Hao, and Nie Qing would go to the administrative building to look for information about Dr. Pei, while Lin Xiuyuan and Mao Qiqi would walk around the base with the elders, casually gathering information.

Before leaving the Space, Su Jin had searched for a long time and finally found some old clothes that the family had kept in storage and couldn’t bear to discard. Dressed in these, Lin Yunguo and the others looked just like the other folks struggling to earn a living in the base.

“Never thought these clothes would see the light of day again”

Lin Tianhui said with a laugh, looking at the clothes worn out from their younger years.

“Indeed, kept them just for the sake of memories; lucky we didn’t throw them away, haha!”

Lin Yunguo laughed heartily, appreciating the benefits of holding onto the past.

Su Jin and the others were still in their coats from the day before. They were a bit dirty, but that was typical attire post-apocalypse—not like when they were at the S city base, where it was best to keep a low profile.

Lin Xiuyuan walked alongside Lin Yunguo and Li Xiuying, holding Mao Qiqi’s hand.

Many people were already out and about in the base by then, probably looking to pick up some tasks, and some were sitting by the roadside with signs, openly seeking teams.

“Grandma, see if there’s anything you’d like to buy. I got quite a few crystal cores from Su Jin for today!”

Lin Xiuyuan whispered into Li Xiuying’s ear.

They had now reached some makeshift market stalls, although most of what was being sold seemed useless—gold and silver ornaments, women’s handbags, men’s wallets and belts, even high heels and lipstick. These items, no longer seen by them on shopping trips, sparked their interest.

“These things used to be so precious,”

Lin Yunguo exclaimed as he squatted next to a stall selling gold ornaments, surprised to see gold being sold at a stall in his lifetime.

The vendor, a short man, finally saw a customer, albeit an old man in simple clothes, but he introduced his wares eagerly, “Esteemed sir has a good eye, all our items are genuine gold and silver, previously only sold in department store counters. Look at this Golden Ruyi, it’s large and solid, buying it surely won’t be a loss!”

“Pfft, why would you pitch it to everyone, without even seeing if they can afford it,”

a woman selling handbags nearby rolled her eyes and commented, certain that the plainly dressed elderly couple couldn’t afford anything.

“Sister, that’s not how you should speak. Whether it was before or during the apocalypse, we are all in business. It’s only right to introduce our goods if a customer shows interest,”

the short vendor, apparently trying to spare Lin Yunguo any embarrassment, argued defensively.

“Wasting your breath!”

The woman scoffed and said nothing more, convinced that selling trinkets was not as profitable as her handbag business. Who would go hungry just to buy ornaments, especially targeting an old man.
