Chapter 594: 171: Identity Revealed, Daya is that Daya (21 more updates)_1
Zhou Danni’s house.
The bun business has been poor these days. Old Zhao didn’t return until after 7 o’clock in the evening, and only 20 buns were sold out of a hundred!
There were 80 left!
They had so many leftover buns from the past few days that the family couldn’t finish them even after days.
Looking at the buns, old Zhao grew worried. He searched his pockets for a cigarette but instead found a slip of paper.
This slip of paper was from Ni Yan’s previous visit.
It was the recipe for making ketchup.
Ni Yan had written it out very clearly in great detail. It was easy to understand.
Old Zhao looked at the piece of paper and said to Zhou Danni, “How about we try what Yangyang suggested? We could sell the grilled bun pieces by the school gate.”
Zhou Danni frowned, “That uses a lot of oil, and we don’t have a lot of sesame oil left at home.”
Zhao responded, “Let’s just try it out first. If it doesn’t work out, then we’ll let it go. It’s such a waste to see these buns go unused! Besides, if Ni Yan can make her business so successful, the method she taught us shouldn’t be too shabby.”
Zhou Danni hesitated, “Alright.”
“Then let’s start making the ketchup.”
“What is ketchup?” Zhou Danni was curious.
Old Zhao replied, “It’s my first time hearing of it too. Yangyang said it tastes excellent, and when spread on the grilled bun pieces, it’s delicious. She’s written down the method on this paper. Let me read it to you.”
Although Zhou Danni couldn’t read, she caught onto things quickly. After hearing it once, she immediately understood. She took out two tomatoes, “Then let’s give it a try.”
Not long after, the small kitchen was filled with the sweet and sour aroma of tomatoes.
While making the tomato sauce, Zhou Danni quickly sliced the buns into moderate thickness pieces. She heated up some oil and proceed to grill the pieces around the sides of the pan.
Old Zhao stood by her side, “Flip them quickly. Yangyang said to cook them until golden brown.”
One bun could be sliced into eight pieces and a plateful of grilled bun pieces were ready in no time.
And grilling the bun slices wasn’t as oil-consuming as they thought.
The children came running in from outside, “Mom, Dad, what delicious food are you making? It smells so good!”
“Dashuan, Ershuan, Sanshuan, Xiaoshuang, come in quickly. Mom has made something delicious for you.” Zhou Danni gave each of her children a piece of grilled bun.
“Wow! Yummy! Mom, these pancakes you made are so delicious!”
“What’s this red thing? It’s sweet and sour, it tastes even better than hawthorn!”
The children usually grew sick of eating buns, but they never expected the bun pieces to be such a big hit!
Ni Yan was obviously right; these bun pieces would definitely sell better than the whole buns.
Zhou Danni smiled, “These are grilled bun slices.”@@novelbin@@
“Grilled bun slices? Are these made from buns?”
“Yes!” Zhou Danni nodded.
“Wow! I never thought buns could taste this good! Mom, will you make these for us tomorrow?”
Zhou Danni promised them with a smile.
After dinner, the couple discussed how they were going to sell the bun pieces the next day.
Zhou Danni said, “After all, it’s just the school dismissal time, you can continue selling the buns during the day, then in the evening we can sell together. This grilled bun piece should be sold as soon as it’s done. If left for too long, it’ll get soft and lose its taste.”
Old Zhao nodded,” That sounds good, by the way, how much should we sell a bun piece for?”
Zhou Danni thought for a while, “Let’s sell four pieces for 1 cent or two pieces for 5 cents. After all, making the bun pieces consumes oil.”
If it sells, making the bun pieces would be more profitable than selling whole buns.
By the next evening when school hadn’t let out yet, the couple came out with their cart to the school gate.
Contrary to their expectations, the business did not go well.
Not a single person even asked about it.
After all, the product is buns.
In everyone’s subconscious, a bun was tasteless and barely filling, hence it wouldn’t be considered a treat.
Futhermore, 1 cent was enough to buy four buns!
On the other hand, 1 cent could only buy four slices of bun.
Four slices equated to half a bun, so only a fool would buy them.
Old Zhao sighed.
It seemed like the method Ni Yan suggested didn’t work.
Zhou Danni was also feeling somewhat downcast.
They had thought that the grilled bun pieces would be very popular, so they brought a lot of steamed buns. Unexpectedly, they didn’t sell a single one.
Making money was so hard!
Today was the day Ni Yan came to school for registration.
She just walked out of the school gate and spotted two familiar figures.
What do you think?
