Chapter 704: 189: It’s Too Late for Regrets_6
“Rest assured! I will definitely marry you!” Zhao Shen promised.
Lin Fang did not say much, she just said, “Then I’ll go back first.”
“I will come to find you after the New Year!”
Returning to the villa once again, the tranquillity seemed to have returned.
Shangguan Furong looked at Zhao Shen and said, “Before the divorce, I have one more condition.”
“You say.” He had been married to Shangguan Furong for many years and he would satisfy whatever condition Shangguan Furong had.
Shangguan Furong went on, “Today is the 24th of the small year. My brother and sister-in-law must have returned home. I want you to accompany me back to my mother’s house. We used to go back on this day every year. I don’t want to cause any suspicion.”
“Alright.” Zhao Shen nodded, “Then, I’ll let Zijun and Ziqing know.”
“Mm.”
Shortly, the family of four arrived at the Shangguan residence by car.
As Shangguan Furong had said, Ni Cuihua and Shangguan Dehui were both at home, and their children were there too. The Shangguan residence was bustling.
“Auntie and Uncle, you’re here.” Shangguan Xi took the gift from Zhao Shen.
Zhao Zijun and Zhao Ziqing excitedly ran towards Ni Yun, “Yunyun, sister!”
If it were in the past, Shangguan Furong would have been very unhappy.
But today, Shangguan Furong was not only unhappy, but she was also smiling.
“Brother, sister-in-law.” Shangguan Furong greeted Shangguan Dehui and Ni Cuihua.
Shangguan Dehui and Ni Cuihua were both taken aback.
Shangguan Furong had always made no secret of her dislike of Ni Cuihua. But today, Shangguan Furong seemed like a different person. There was not a trace of scorn in her eyes.
During these days, Shangguan Furong had thought about many things.
She had been wrong in the past.
She only cared about her own pride, without considering the feelings of others.
She was also the one who had been too meddlesome, almost ruining the good marriage between Shangguan Dehui and Ni Cuihua.
“Furong.” Ni Cuihua looked at Shangguan Furong in surprise.
Shangguan Furong continued, “Sister-in-law, this is the bird’s nest and hasma that I brought especially for you. They are very nourishing for women.”
“Thank you.” Ni Cuihua didn’t know what to say for a moment.
The old lady Shangguan looked at Shangguan Furong with a heartwarming expression in her eyes.
Great!
In her lifetime, she finally saw Shangguan Furong become sensible.
“Sister-in-law, I was immature in the past, please don’t hold it against me.”
“The past is the past, Furong, don’t think too much about it.” Ni Cuihua comforted her.
Looking at Ni Cuihua, Shangguan Furong suddenly felt urge to cry.
Ni Cuihua was such a good person.
But she had treated her that way in the past.
She regretted it, truly regretted.!
Unfortunately, her realizations came too late.
Shangguan Furong walked over to Ni Yang, “Yangyang.”
“Aunt.” Ni Yang barely lifted her eyes; she could feel that Shangguan Furong had changed quite a bit.
With a smile, Shangguan Furong said, “Can you come with me for a while?”
“Okay.” Ni Yang nodded, following Shangguan Furong to the study on the second floor.
As soon as they entered the study, Shangguan Furong bowed deeply to Ni Yang.
“Yangyang, I’m sorry!”
“Aunt, don’t do this, I’m the younger one.” Ni Yang hurriedly helped Shangguan Furong up.
Shangguan Furong went on to say, “I know that a bow can hardly make up for the harm I’ve caused you, but now, all I can do is apologize.”
She had done too many wrong things…
“No one is perfect and can avoid making mistakes, as the saying goes. Whatever happened has already passed, so let it be,” continued Ni Yang. “We must look forward in life.”
Shangguan Furong nodded in agreement, “Yangyang, you’re right, we should always look forward.”
Ni Yang sensed that something seemed off about Shangguan Furong today.
“Auntie, have you encountered any problems recently?”
“No,” Shangguan Furong shook her head and denied it with a laugh. “At the Zhao Family, everyone treats me with respect. What kind of problems could I possibly encounter?”
Her status within the Zhao Family was evident to all.
But Ni Yang continued, “You seem a bit off today.”
“Maybe I didn’t get enough sleep,” Shangguan Furong yawned, “I’ve been staying up late playing mahjong with my lady friends.”
“Please take care of your health, Auntie,” Ni Yang said.
“Mhm.” Shangguan Furong nodded in response.
Ni Yang went on, “If anything bothers you, you may tell grandma or us. Don’t hold it all in by yourself.”
Smiling, Shangguan Furong responded, “I will, Yangyang, thank you!”
Thank you for putting the past behind us.
After lunch, the oldest Shangguan was taking care of Little Ni Yun while Shangguan Xi and Ni Yang were outside building snowmen with the Zhao siblings, Zijun and Ziqing.
In December, a thick layer of snow covered the outdoors.
Shangguan Furong and Zhao Shen were chatting with Shangguan Dehui and Ni Cuihua.
Shangguan Furong increasingly felt that the old Lady Shangguan was right in their previous conversation.
Ni Cuihua was excellent indeed.
She and Shangguan Dehui were equals, none superior to the other.
How come she had never noticed before?
Shangguan Furong suggested: “We now have four people here, should we play some Mahjong?”
“Sure, good idea.” Zhao Shen had no objections since he was accustomed to following Shangguan Furong’s advice.
This version of Shangguan Furong was indeed endearing.
If Shangguan Furong had always been like this, they would not have arrived at the idea of divorce.
Ni Cuihua admitted somewhat awkwardly: “I don’t know how to play Mahjong. Shall we ask mom to join in?”
She spent any free time studying, leaving no time for Mahjong.
“That’s OK, I can teach you,” offered Shangguan Dehui who was next to her.
Shangguan Furong smilingly added, “Indeed, let my brother teach you.”
Ni Cuihua was quick to learn. After one round with Shangguan Dehui, she knew how to play.
Moreover, Ni Cuihua had good luck and won several rounds in a row.
Not until late at night did Shangguan Furong and Zhao Shen leave with the children.
Shangguan Dehui and Ni Cuihua saw them out.
“Brother, sister-in-law, please go back with the children soon. It’s windy outside!” Shangguan Furong waved them goodbye.
Watching Shangguan Furong’s retreating figure, Ni Cuihua said, “Dehui, don’t you think Furong has changed a lot?”
Shangguan Dehui nodded, “Indeed, she has changed quite a bit. It’s a good change for Furong.”
Time flew by.
Before they knew it, New Year’s Eve had arrived.
This year, Ni Yang was spending the New Year with Ni Cuihua at the Shangguan Family home.
They planned to bring the oldest Shangguan back to Jinghua Village on the first day of the New Year.
The oldest Shangguan was extremely delighted since it had been a long time since they last had such a happy New Year.
At the dinner table, the oldest Shangguan gave everyone a hefty red envelope.
Just after they finished their New Year’s Eve dinner and were about to go outside to set off fireworks, the phone rang.
Today being New Year’s Eve, the Shangguan Family had given their servants a day off. Shangguan Xi rushed to answer the phone, “Hello.”
Whatever the person on the other end of the phone said made Shangguan Xi’s face turn pale. He rushed back into the living room without even hanging up the phone, panic written all over his face, “Grandma! Something has happened!”
What do you think?
