Chapter 198: Chapter 198: The Resort

Ji Mansion.
Ji Yuqiao searched through the study, turning over every drawer and bookshelf, as if unable to find what she needed, she could only sheepishly go downstairs for breakfast.
She poked at the porridge in her bowl with chopsticks, unable to take a single bite for a long time, her eyebrows knitted together as if troubled by something.
“I wonder what urgent matter there is at the company, the eldest young master left without even having breakfast,” the butler chatted idly with Aunt Zhang.
“Should I take some food and put it in an insulated box to send to the eldest young master?” Aunt Zhang suggested.
“Even if I send it, the eldest young master probably won’t eat it,” the butler scratched his head.
He had tried to send breakfast to Ji Tingyang before, but it always came back untouched by the secretary.
However, ever since Miss Lin arrived, such incidents have seldom happened.
“Why not let Miss Lin deliver it?”
No sooner had the butler spoken than Ji Yuqiao quickly took up the conversation, “Uncle Butler, let me deliver breakfast to big brother!”
Just like that.
Ji Yuqiao took over the task of delivering breakfast to Ji’s.
The receptionist at the front desk had seen Ji Yuqiao before and let her through without a word.
She easily entered the president’s office, but there was no one inside.
The empty office was unusually quiet, and Ji Yuqiao could even hear her own heartbeat speeding up due to nervousness, as some thoughts began to grow in this terrifying silence.
She looked up, her gaze landing on the files on the work desk…
The secretary hurried out of the meeting room, annoyed that she could have picked up the wrong documents for the meeting.
As she passed by the president’s office, she suddenly heard a faint noise from inside.
All the employees on this floor were in the meeting room, so it was impossible for anyone to be here now.
Could there be a thief?
The secretary swallowed hard, picked up a broom from the corridor, and tiptoed towards the entrance of the president’s office.
But before she could push the door open, it was pulled open from the inside.
The secretary had just raised the broom and was about to swing it down when Ji Yuqiao appeared in front of her.
“Miss Ji? What are you doing here?” the secretary exclaimed in surprise.
Ji Yuqiao, startled by the broom in her hand, said, “I, I came to bring breakfast to my brother.”
Ji Yuqiao pointed to the insulated box on the glass table behind her.
“So it was you; I thought a thief had gotten in,” the secretary said embarrassedly, hiding the broom behind her back, “President Ji is currently in a meeting, and it’ll probably be another hour before it’s over. Why don’t you wait in the office?”
“No need, I have other things to do, I’ll head back now,” Ji Yuqiao replied, her expression somewhat flustered, and she promptly bid farewell and left.
The secretary didn’t dwell on this little episode and returned to the meeting room after fetching the documents.
The meeting dragged on even longer than anticipated, and it was two hours later when it finally ended.
Ji Tingyang returned to his office and went straight to his desk.
Noticing that the files that were initially opened were now closed, his sharp brows furrowed slightly, “Who has been in my office?”
“Miss Ji came by this morning, said she came to deliver breakfast to you,” the secretary reported.
After she finished speaking, Ji Tingyang noticed an insulated box had appeared on the desk.
A faint smile flickered beneath his slightly raised eyebrows.
So eager to deliver breakfast to him—probably looking for praise and some pocket money again.

In the small grove at the school.

Ji Yuqiao looked at Xiao Yu before her, a struggle emerging in the depths of her clear eyes, and she couldn’t bring herself to hand over the document she was holding.
Xiao Yu placed his hands on her shoulders, his tone cold but with an enticing edge, “Give me the document, and I’ll persuade Wen Li to destroy all that evidence afterwards.”
Ji Yuqiao’s face turned deathly pale, her hand trembling as she clutched the document.
Xiao Yu grabbed the document and tugged firmly, pulling it from Ji Yuqiao’s grasp. “Don’t worry, if your brother knew you did this for him, he wouldn’t blame you at all.”
“Will you really help me?” Ji Yuqiao looked up at him, her gaze holding a glimmer of hope.
“I definitely will,” Xiao Yu replied promptly.
With Xiao Yu’s affirmative answer, Ji Yuqiao felt relieved and went home to await the result from Xiao Yu.
However, she waited for a week without any news.
Even when she took the initiative to message him, Xiao Yu never replied.
Ji Yuqiao’s face was filled with worry, her eyes lackluster as she lay motionless on the sofa, much like an eggplant wilted after a day in the scorching sun.
Lin Xu pulled Ji Tingyang aside and whispered, “What’s wrong with Lanyue? Why has she been so downcast lately?”
Ji Tingyang shook his head, “I’m not sure either.”
“How about we take her out tomorrow, the weekend, and let her unwind a bit?” Lin Xu suggested.
The last time they went go-karting, Ji Yuqiao was thrilled.
Ji Tingyang considered many places, and finally decided on, “The holiday resort in the countryside?”
Lin Xu nodded.
Ji Tingyang arranged everything swiftly.
The next morning,
he was driving the car, taking them out.
From the moment Ji Yuqiao got in the car, she was distracted, periodically letting out sighs, and seemed lost in thought.
It wasn’t until they got out of the car and saw the picturesque scenery, along with the quaint wooden villas, that she was completely taken aback.
“Where are we going?” Ji Yuqiao asked, astounded.
She had thought Lin Xu was just taking her to the shopping mall, but instead, they had arrived at an unfamiliar place.
“The holiday resort in the countryside. Your brother has been working too hard lately. He needs to come here to rest,” Lin Xu said without revealing it was out of concern for Ji Yuqiao.
Hearing that Ji Tingyang was overworked, a flicker of guilt flashed through Ji Yuqiao’s eyes. She immediately scuttled behind him and, standing on tiptoe, began to massage his shoulders, “Big brother, have you been very tired lately? Let me rub your back for you!”
Ji Tingyang, holding on to the collar of her coat, led her towards the resort’s hotel, “If you would give me fewer worries, I wouldn’t be so tired.”
Ji Yuqiao’s eyes shifted guiltily, thinking about the documents she took, she didn’t dare to speak.
Over the weekend, Lin Xu took Ji Yuqiao to try many activities at the resort.
Ji Yuqiao initially felt half-hearted, but there were so many fun things to do that she soon forgot all her troubles.
Her radiant, lively smile returned to her face.
Rowing, diving, and they even attended a wedding held at the resort…there was no end to the festivities.
Unfortunately, on Sunday, it started to pour outside, and many outdoor activities were canceled.
So Ji Yuqiao and the others could only partake in indoor activities.
“I’m going to the restroom.” Humming a cheerful tune, she walked towards the end of the corridor.
Her gaze swept over the resort hotel’s lobby, and a familiar figure crashed into her line of sight.
In an instant, Ji Yuqiao froze on the spot.
Upon seeing Xiao Yu, all the things she had forgotten swirled back into her mind, and the smile on her lips stiffened.
What do you think?
