Chapter 200: Chapter 200 Is Xie Changyan Our Father?
In the hospital.
Ji Yuqiao lay on the hospital bed, one foot in a cast. She pulled the blanket over her face, peering out with cautious eyes at Ji Tingyang in the hospital room.
Ji Tingyang’s face was expressionless, seemingly calm and undisturbed, yet the atmosphere around him was chillingly cold.
He stood stiffly at the foot of the bed, staring at Ji Yuqiao who stood motionless. Neither of them spoke.
For a moment.
The silence in the room was somewhat terrifying.
Lin Xu came in from outside, breaking the icy silence, “The doctor said it’s just a sprained ankle and a ligament strain. After the cast is done, you can go home to recuperate.”
“That’s great,” Ji Yuqiao cheered softly.
“Great? Is having a cast so great?” Ji Tingyang narrowed his eyes, the atmosphere tense.
Ji Yuqiao shrank her neck and immediately fell silent, not daring to speak.
Lin Xu smiled and touched her huddled head, “Want some water?”
Just as Ji Yuqiao nodded, Ji Tingyang’s voice, laden with annoyance, rose again, “Haven’t you grown capable? Get the water yourself.”
Ji Yuqiao’s extended hand trembled, then she quickly withdrew it back under the blanket, her eyes reddening as she looked at him with a swell of sourness in her nose, “Big brother, I’m sorry, I was wrong…”
“Wrong about what?” Ji Tingyang asked sternly.
“I shouldn’t have stolen your files.” She bowed her head, tears falling from her eyes.
After stealing them, she felt regret and randomly downloaded a document online, swapped it, and then handed it to Xiao Yu.
Luckily, Xiao Yu wasn’t very knowledgeable about new energy technologies and didn’t recognize that the document was a fake.
But no matter what, she had done something wrong.
Ji Tingyang said coldly, “Not that matter.”
“Then which matter?” She twisted the blanket in her hands and glanced up at him. Seeing his face as cold as ice, she quickly bowed her head out of fear.
Ji Yuqiao couldn’t understand no matter how much she thought, but Lin Xu did understand what Ji Tingyang meant.
Lin Xu laughed a little and said, “Your brother is worried about you.”
Just as Lin Xu had said before, neither Lin Xu nor Ji Tingyang blamed her, but they were angry at her presumptuous actions.
“You shouldn’t have kept things from your family, ending up deceived and used without knowing. No matter what happens in the future, remember to tell us, understand?” Lin Xu said.
Ji Yuqiao sobbed softly, her tears falling heavily on the blanket as she looked at Ji Tingyang with tearful eyes, “Big brother, I’m sorry…”
Ultimately, she was the sister who had depended on him for twenty years. Ji Tingyang also heard about this incident from Lin Xu, and seeing her sob, he couldn’t bear it any longer.
He pulled out a tissue and handed it to her, “Your snot is coming out.”
Sensing his softening heart, Ji Yuqiao’s dim eyes suddenly brightened, and she quickly shifted her body, patting the edge of the bed, “Big brother, aren’t you tired? Come sit down.”
“You’d give me less worry, and I wouldn’t be tired,” Ji Tingyang replied with an annoyed glance.
…
Since Ji Yuqiao had trouble moving, she asked her teacher for a few days off to recuperate at home.
In the first two days, she remained apprehensive at home, voluntarily massaging Ji Tingyang’s shoulders and fetching water as if to make up for her mistakes.
However, it didn’t take long for her to revert to her carefree, unbothered self. Her shoulder massages and water fetching were as fleeting as a night-blooming flower. Every day at home, she pushed the wheelchair alongside Lin Xu, planting and watering the flowers.
“Ji Yuqiao, go get me a glass of water,” Ji Tingyang called out to her after coming home from work.
She was behind, digging in the flowerbed with a shovel, and without looking up, she said, “Can’t you dump it yourself? I am injured right now!”
Ji Tingyang glanced at her lightly, “You’re really not going?”
“Not going,” Ji Yuqiao was resolute.
Ji Tingyang stepped forward and snatched the small shovel from her.
Ji Yuqiao, sitting in the wheelchair, couldn’t reach the shovel in his hand, so she turned and threw herself into Lin Xu’s arms, sobbing, “Wuu wuu wuu… Mother, big brother is bullying me!”
Ever since Ji Yuqiao learned that Lin Xu was indeed her mother, she had mastered the essence of tattling.
Lin Xu looked at Ji Tingyang, “If Lanyue wants to play, let her play. Her leg is injured, and she can’t go anywhere. Gardening is a good way to pass the time.”
Ji Yuqiao leaned in Lin Xu’s arms, smugly blinking at him.
Just then, Ji Tingyang raised an eyebrow slightly and his voice floated up, “Mother, she has her final exams coming up. It’s alright for her to rest at home, but she is so relaxed every day. What if she fails her finals again? Let her study more.”
As expected, Lin Xu became anxious, “Is it time to prepare for exams? When are they? Let’s start tomorrow, no, start this evening, right after dinner she should head back to her room and study.”
Studying indeed was a painful thing for a student; at Lin Xu’s words, Ji Yuqiao’s cheeks sagged in an instant.
“The exam isn’t for another two weeks. After my injury heals, I can still review when I return to school…” Ji Yuqiao struggled.
“It will be too late to start once you go back to school,” Ji Tingyang added sternly.
“Your brother is right, start revising this evening. Do you need me to accompany you?” Lin Xu had never accompanied her child in studying before and was somewhat eager to start.
Ji Yuqiao glared at Ji Tingyang.
You’re ruthless.
In the following days at home, aside from eating and sleeping, Ji Yuqiao studied under Lin Xu’s supervision every day, crying out in agony.
But every time she wanted to slack off, seeing the hopeful look in Lin Xu’s eyes made her heart soften, and she obediently bowed her head to study again.
While she was focusing, her phone’s ringtone rang on the desk, breaking her concentration.
Ji Yuqiao looked at the name on it.
Xie Changyan.
She suddenly remembered the man who resembled the father in the photograph, still not over the shock, Lin Xu hung up the call.
Ji Yuqiao asked in confusion, “Why did you hang up the call?”
“I’ll call him back after you finish revising,” Lin Xu said.
A mischievous smile crossed Ji Yuqiao’s face, “Oh~ guess we’ll have to wait until we’re back in our room for the sweet nothings.”
Lin Xu shot her a glance and tapped her on the head, “Focus on your book, stop talking nonsense.”
Ji Yuqiao’s curiosity was piqued, banishing any thought of studying, “Mother, is that Xie Changyan really our father?”
“Yes,” Lin Xu didn’t hide it from her.
“Then why doesn’t he come live with us?” Ji Yuqiao asked.
“He doesn’t remember us now, but once his memory returns, he’ll definitely come back and live with us.”
“Is father very fierce? Will he love us the same as you do?”
“Of course.” Lin Xu said.
A week later, Ji Yuqiao finally ended her torturous period of home study and returned to the embrace of the campus.
She also met Xiao Yu again.
What do you think?
