Chapter 202: Chapter 202 Cooperation Depends on Character too
Ever since Xiao Yu signed the new contract, the senior’s gloomy expression had vanished, his face beaming, bustling eagerly every day with Xiao Yu on the project matters.
“You must be about to start your graduation defense, right? Coming to the studio every day, will that not delay your thesis writing?” The senior suddenly asked, remembering that Xiao Yu was about to graduate.
“It’s fine; I have already written my thesis, and the defense won’t be a problem. Now I just need to focus on the studio’s matters.” Xiao Yu continued to concentrate on the documents on the computer without lifting his head, “Besides, I lost two partnerships before. Now that I’ve finally signed one back, it’s only right that I work harder.”
Hearing his words, a touch of embarrassment flashed across the senior’s face, “The studio was in such difficulties back then, I was just anxious. Don’t take it to heart…”
“I know, senior was all for the good of the studio.” Xiao Yu’s voice was without a ripple.
The senior couldn’t read his thoughts and felt somewhat uneasy for a moment.
Xiao Yu glanced at the time and said, “It’s about time. I have a dinner appointment tonight with the director of Renda Technology to discuss the new project. Senior, would you like to come along?”
“He asked to meet you; I’d better not go.” The senior scratched his neck awkwardly.
“Alright.” Xiao Yu nodded, got up, and left.
Inside the Flaming Lily Restaurant.
Xiao Yu and the director of Renda talked at length, quickly finalizing the new partnership.
“I’ll take the contract back with me, have the legal department look it over tomorrow, and if there’s no issue, I’ll sign it for you.” The director was very straightforward.
“Thank you very much.” Xiao Yu was overjoyed and toasted him several glasses of wine.
As the alcohol kicked in, the director’s cell phone rang. He glanced at the caller ID, and his foggy brain suddenly sobered up significantly.
“My wife is checking in; I have to step out to take a call.” He immediately rose and left the private room.
After roughly an hour, Xiao Yu, concerned the director might have drunkenly dozed off somewhere, got up to look for him.
Xiao Yu searched along the corridor but couldn’t find the director of Renda anywhere.
Could he have left first?
Just as Xiao Yu hesitated about whether to call and search for him, the sound of the director’s voice came from a partly open private room.
“Come on, let me toast to everyone…”
Xiao Yu followed the sound and found his way there, but he never expected to see Ji Tingyang inside.
There were quite a few people sitting in the private room, eating and chatting with a lively atmosphere.
Only Ji Tingyang, seated at the head, maintained a serious face, expressionless.
As the toasting went around, no one dared to make President Ji drink except for the director of Renda.
He seemed quite drunk, not very sober, holding his glass up to Ji Tingyang, “President Ji, I’ve always heard of your achievements at a young age and wanted to meet you, but unfortunately never found the chance. I didn’t expect to see you here today by such a coincidence. Let me toast to you!”
“The family rules are strict; no drinking allowed.” Ji Tingyang did not want to slight him, taking a teacup to clink with him instead.
“Understandable, understandable. My wife is also strict, and I can’t avoid a scolding every time I go back after drinking.” The director of Renda chuckled and nodded in agreement.
He wanted to say more, but when he caught a glimpse of Xiao Yu at the door, his eyes lit up, “Hey, Xiao Xiao, come on in, come on in.”
His voice was loud, attracting everyone’s attention as soon as he spoke.
Even Ji Tingyang looked over, his indifferent gaze tinged with a chill.
The director from Renda kept calling out, and Xiao Yu had no way to leave, so he could only walk in under everyone’s gaze.
“What’s with the dilly-dallying? I’m introducing you to a major client. If you can talk about a cooperation with Ji’s, who knows, your little studio might go public next year!” The director pulled Xiao Yu over and exaggeratedly whispered in his ear.
Xiao Yu kept a straight face, staying silent.
“President Ji, this is Xiao Yu, who has started a small studio. Don’t be fooled by the size of the studio, but their capabilities are quite good.” The director was genuinely trying to introduce Xiao Yu to a major client, openly praising him in front of Ji Tingyang.
Ji Tingyang’s gaze lifted, his cold and ruthless eyes like the gleam of a bladed knife shooting towards Xiao Yu, “Cooperation is not just about capability, it’s also about character. Before choosing a partner, it would be better to thoroughly investigate their character first.”
The director was stunned for a moment, not quite grasping the meaning of his words, only to hear Xiao Yu’s cold scoff.
“President Ji’s words are quite right, character is indeed very important. Wouldn’t want it that right after the contract is signed, the president of the cooperating company gets arrested for breaking the law.”
This statement was obviously loaded with meaning.
The color in Ji Tingyang’s eyes suddenly became even colder, his look towards Xiao Yu was filled with hostility, as if sparks flew between their gazes.
Everyone present was a workplace elite, and sensing that the atmosphere had turned delicate, they quickly intervened to lighten the mood.
“Xiao Xiao, is it? Come on, let’s have a drink, and then tell me more about your studio’s services, maybe I can introduce some clients to you,” a middle-aged man looped his arm around Xiao Yu’s shoulder, thrusting his glass of alcohol into his hand.
One drink followed another into his stomach.
Xiao Yu’s head felt heavy and foggy as he looked towards the calm and composed Ji Tingyang, his blurry eyes seemingly catching the hint of a mocking sneer on the corner of Ji Tingyang’s mouth.
He gripped the cup in his hand tightly, the revulsion and anger churning in his heart reaching a peak at this moment as his gaze gradually became icy cold.
The black vines entwined around his heart tightened, pulling him step by step towards the abyss.
Just when Xiao Yu was about to reach his limit with the drinking, the socializing finally ended.
He leaned against a utility pole on the roadside, bending over and retching miserably.
Out of the corner of his eye, Ji Tingyang left in a sedan, unhurried and unmoved.
The director from Renda came over and patted him on the back, “Xiao Xiao, it’s so late, how are you planning to get back? Do you need me to have the driver take you?”
“Thank you, my girlfriend will come pick me up,” Xiao Yu said.
Not long ago, Wen Li had called him, worrying about his drunkenness, so she took the initiative to come and pick him up.
No sooner had he spoken than a graceful figure hurried over.
Wen Li supported him, her expression filled with concern, “Why did you drink so much?”
At the sight of Wen Li, a glint appeared in the director’s eyes, quickly vanishing.
“So there’s a beauty to pick you up, I see.” His gaze did a round over Wen Li.
Wen Li helped Xiao Yu into the car and just as she was about to walk around to the other side, the director called out to her.
“I’m really sorry; I didn’t expect tonight’s social event would make him drink so much,” he said.
Wen Li pursed her lips and smiled, replying that it was no issue.
“How about this, take this watch as an apology,” the director said, pulling out an exquisite box and handing it to her.
What do you think?
