Chapter 220: 220 Car Accident

Chapter 220: Chapter 220 Car Accident

The shrill alarm pierced the quiet air, waking Lin Xu from her deep sleep.

Groggily, she reached out to grab the phone by her side, shutting off the alarm without even looking at it and snuggled back into the warmth of her covers.

But as if anticipating her own difficulty getting up, she had set multiple alarms last night, and within two minutes, the alarm went off again.

When Xie Changyan came in, he saw Lin Xu sitting inside the tent with a sleepy expression, turning off one alarm after another.

A hint of a smile curved on his lips, “Weren’t you going to watch the sunrise? It’s time to get up.”

“So sleepy, you watch it for me,” Lin Xu said, her body leaning back to fall again.

...

Xie Changyan caught her body and handed her a wet wipe, “If you’re really tired, you can watch the sunrise and come back to sleep afterward.”

Lin Xu sleepily took the wet wipe, rubbing away the sleepiness from her face.

She was the one who wanted to see the sunrise; it would be unacceptable not to get up in the morning.

After a brief wash-up, Xie Changyan took her to the sunrise viewing platform on the mountain’s edge. It was the best spot to watch the sunrise, and the tourists who had camped with them last night had already taken their spots on the platform.

When Lin Xu and he arrived, a few people even greeted her.

At sunrise, the sky in the distance gradually brightened.

As time passed, the sun slowly peeked over the horizon, and the clouds took on a faint orange hue. It was a stunning beauty that almost seemed to stop time at that moment.

Lin Xu faced the morning breeze and witnessed the dawn’s first light.

“It’s beautiful,” she exclaimed.

She turned to share this moment with Xie Changyan beside her, but her fingers touched something cold.

Lin Xu looked down in confusion and saw that her left ring finger now sported a patterned silver ring, which hadn’t been there before.

She stared at the ring on her hand in shock, her mind going blank.

Her mouth opened, and it took her a while to find her voice, “What’s this?”

“A ring,” Xie Changyan took her hand and kissed the ring finger with the ring on it.

“I know it’s a ring, but giving a ring can mean many things.” Lin Xu gave him a coy raise of the eyebrow as she looked at him, “So, what does this ring mean?”

“No special meaning. I saw this ring while inspecting a mall a few days ago and thought it suited you, so I bought it.” The smile in Xie Changyan’s eyes blossomed, “Unless you wish it had a special meaning, like…”

He bent down, his voice deep with a hint of laughter spreading in her ear, “A proposal?”

The color rose to Lin Xu’s cheeks instantly.

She meant to tease him, but it was he who ended up teasing her instead.

Feeling shy, Lin Xu looked away, “I never said that.”

“Hmm, it’s what I was thinking,” Xie Changyan pulled her into his embrace, and gently kissed her forehead, “The ring for the proposal is still being custom-made, so it’ll be a little later.”

Lin Xu’s eyes widened, “You’re really preparing it?!”

Xie Changyan just smiled at her.

Without an answer from him, Lin Xu couldn’t determine whether his words were serious or just a casual joke.

“Is that the secret you talked about last night?” Lin Xu suddenly remembered him saying, “You’ll know tomorrow.”

“Mhm, do you like it?” Xie Changyan asked.

Lin Xu’s back against his chest, she held up her left hand in the air, admiring how the fiery glow of the sunrise refracted dazzling light off the ring. Her beautiful eyes curved happily, and a radiant smile spread across her cheeks, “Not bad taste, I like it very much.”

She was so enamored with the ring that she kept admiring it, even in the car on the way back, lifting her hand to her eyes to enjoy it and occasionally touching it.

“If I remember correctly, haven’t you been looking at it for two hours?” Xie Changyan drove, while Lin Xu’s actions in the passenger seat caught his peripheral vision.

“One never tires of appreciating beautiful things,” Lin Xu’s red lips captured a faint smile.

Anyone could tell that she was very satisfied with the ring.

As Lin Xu twirled the ring on her finger, she vaguely remembered an incident from the past.

On their wedding anniversary, Ji Yanli had given her a ruby ring.

The ring was so beautiful that she wore it for the entire next month, showing it off to her sons from time to time.

“Look, this is the ring Daddy gave to me, isn’t it pretty?”

The four-year-old Ji Tingyang, especially indulgent, said in his soft and mushy voice, “Pretty.”

The next day, when he came back from kindergarten, he walked with little steps, mysteriously holding up a clenched fist, “Mommy, this is for you.”

His tightly clenched little fist opened to reveal a small paper ring inside.

“The teacher helped me fold it, Mommy likes rings, so I’m giving it to Mommy.”

Lin Xu was both happy and moved, clutching his cheek and planting a firm kiss on it.

Perhaps it was a mother-son telepathy, but as she thought of Ji Tingyang, the very next second his call came through.

The thought that she had sneaked out without Ji Tingyang knowing made her so scared that her phone nearly slipped from her grasp, clattering to the ground.

“Why are you so flustered?” Xie Changyan glanced at her.

Lin Xu stammered and by the time she picked up her phone, the call had already been disconnected.

She hurriedly set her phone to silent and put it back in her purse, deciding she would later say that she had been sleeping in her room and hadn’t heard it because it was on silent.

Lin Xu contemplated her excuse.

Suddenly.

The car they were riding in seemed to have been hit with a violent collision, with a “bang,” the windshield and the windows shattered instantly.

Splinters of glass exploded and flew, slashing across her cheek, and before the pain could spread, blood seeped out ahead of it.

Lin Xu’s mind went blank, and for an instant, time around her seemed to slow down.

She saw Xie Changyan bend over, forcefully pulling her into his embrace.

Then the car began to tumble over and over.

Her nostrils filled with the smell of fresh blood, Lin Xu’s eyes darkened, and she suddenly lost consciousness.

At the Ji Mansion.

After finishing breakfast, Ji Tingyang prepared to leave for work at the company.

Before heading out, he glanced towards the second floor, “Mother went to bed so early last night, hasn’t she gotten up yet?”

With a bun in her mouth, Ji Yuqiao’s eyes flickered, “Maybe she’s too tired.”

“Could she be sick?” Ji Tingyang was a bit worried and started to head towards the second floor.

“How could Mother be sick with her being so healthy, don’t worry about it, just go to work,” Ji Yuqiao said hastily, blocking Ji Tingyang.

Ji Tingyang narrowed his eyes slightly, his gaze upon her held a hint of scrutiny.

Ji Yuqiao felt the hairs on her back stand up, unable to hide her guilty expression, “Big… Big brother, why are you looking at me like that?”

As if having realized something, Ji Tingyang bypassed her and went straight upstairs, pushing open the door to the master bedroom, only to find it empty.
