Reborn as a Succubus: Time To Live My Best Life!

Chapter 103 The Traveling Sorceress

{Zephyra}

Zephyra Vortell stirred, her head pounding slightly as the first rays of sunlight filtered through the grimy tavern window.

The scent of stale alcohol and sex hung heavy in the air, a reminder of last night's debauchery.

[Fuck,] she thought, a grin spreading across her face despite the hangover. [That was one hell of a night.]

As memories of the evening flooded back, Zephyra glanced at the two kitsune prostitutes still sleeping beside her. Their fur was matted and tangled, and Zephyra could see a bit of dried cum on them as well.

One of the girls, the one with the particularly fluffy tail, began to stir. Zephyra reached out, giving her ass a firm squeeze. The kitsune let out a soft moan, her eyes fluttering open.

"Mmm, good morning," she purred, her voice still husky with sleep. "Care for another round before you go?"

Zephyra chuckled, already swinging her legs out of bed.

"Tempting, but I like to get an early start. Maybe next time, sweetheart."

The other kitsune woke up, pouting playfully.

"Aw, come on. Just a quickie?"

"Sorry, ladies," Zephyra said, not sounding sorry at all. She stretched, hearing a couple of soft cracks from her bones in the process. "Duty calls. But I'll be sure to look you up next time I'm around."

"Wow~ Such a glowing review!"

"What can I say?" She flashed them a grin. "You two are very good at your jobs."

Without bothering to fully dress, she grabbed a nearby bathrobe, shrugging it on but leaving it mostly open.

As she made her way down to the tavern's main room, Zephyra was acutely aware of the eyes following her. Her breasts swayed freely with each step, the robe doing little to conceal... anything, really. She hadn't even put on panties.

She approached the bar, leaning against it in a way that caused her robe to part further, giving everyone a clear view of her ass.

"Coffee, black," she ordered, her voice carrying easily over the low murmur of conversation all around her.

As the bartender hurried to comply, Zephyra overheard a snippet of conversation from a nearby table.

"...can't believe it. An attack on the king, right in the palace!"

Zephyra's head snapped around, her eyes narrowing.

"What was that about the king!?"

The men at the table looked up, their eyes widening as they took in her state of undress. One of them, an older fellow with a impressive beard, cleared his throat.

"Uh, yes, ma'am. Word just came in. There was an assassination attempt on King Aldric during some fancy gala."

For a moment, Zephyra felt her heart stop.

She was already mentally preparing to storm out of the tavern, coffee be damned, when the man continued.

"But don't worry, he's fine. Some young mage saved him, apparently. A nim girl, if you can believe it."

Zephyra let out a breath she hadn't realized she'd been holding.

[Fuck,] she thought, relief washing over her. [That was close. Wait... a nim girl?]

"Tell me more about this nim," she said, grabbing her coffee and joining their table without invitation. "What exactly happened?"

As the men recounted the story, clearly enjoying the attention from the scantily-clad sorceress, Zephyra felt a mix of emotions swirling inside her.

Relief that the king was safe, of course. Curiosity about this nim savior. But also... resignation.

[Well, shit,] she thought, taking a long sip of her coffee. [Guess my little road trip is coming to an end.]

With most of the darian encampments in the area defeated, Zephyra could no longer justify staying away from Syux. The attack on the king would only underscore the need for her to return to her duties.

A part of her, the part that loved the freedom of the road, the thrill of new discoveries and new bedmates, rebelled at the thought. But another part, one she often tried to ignore, felt a small thrill at the prospect of returning home.

[Home,] she mused, the word feeling strange even in her thoughts. [Is that what Syux is to me now?]

She thought of the endless court politics, the stuffy nobles with their backwards ideas about magic. But she also thought of her laboratory, filled with half-finished experiments and tantalizing mysteries. Of the few genuine friends she'd made in the capital.

And now, apparently, there was a nim girl with enough magical talent to save the king's life.

That... that could be interesting.

"Well, boys," Zephyra said, draining the last of her coffee and standing up. "It's been fun, but duty calls. The king isn't going to protect himself, after all."

As she sauntered back upstairs to gather her things, Zephyra couldn't help but feel a spark of excitement beneath her reluctance. Whatever awaited her in Syux, it was bound to be interesting.

[A nim girl saving the king,] she thought, a grin spreading across her face. [Now that's something I've got to see for myself.]

"Reaaaaally? You can't stay one more second?"

"I really can't, darling."

"... Even if I offer to make it free of charge?"

Zephyra's brows shot up.

Both kitsune prostitutes seemed resolute about this.

[Wow. They really liked me.]

She smiled and gave them both some quick kisses on the forehead.

"Unfortunately, I-"

Zephyra had just finished lacing up her boots when she heard the commotion downstairs. The tavern door slammed open, followed by panicked shouting.

"Darians! Darians are attacking the village!"

[Well, fuck,] Zephyra thought, sighing. [So much for a quiet morning after.]

Throwing on her black robes, she went downstairs. The tavern was in chaos, patrons scrambling for weapons or hiding spots.

Zephyra strode through the panicked crowd, her confidence palpable.

As she stepped outside, her eyes quickly assessed the situation. A group of darians, maybe two dozen strong, were charging down the main street, their scales glinting in the morning sun.

[Revenge?] she speculated internally, her smirk widening. [Looks like some of our scaly friends didn't appreciate the ass-kicking I gave them last time.]

Sure enough, as the darians drew closer, Zephyra recognized a few faces. Warriors she'd left alive during her last battle, now back for round two.

"Well, boys," she called out, her voice carrying over the chaos, "didn't get enough the first time?"

The lead darian, a massive brute with white scales, roared in response.

"Your head will decorate our war camp!"

Zephyra just laughed.

"That decoration is a tad too expensive for you, unfortunately."

With that, she launched into action. Her hands traced complex patterns in the air, Wind Magic – the specialty of House Vortell – swirling around her.

"Ventus spiralis, surgere!" she shouted, and a tornado sprang to life at her command.

One she sent forward with a flick of her wrist.

It tore through the darian ranks, sending several warriors flying.

But Zephyra was just getting started.

She spun, her robe flaring dramatically as she wove another spell.

"Fulgur catena, percutere!"

Lightning then bounced from her fingertips before launching out, chaining between the darians and leaving them twitching and smoking on the ground.

A few of the smarter (or luckier) warriors managed to close the distance, their weapons raised high.

Zephyra grinned, relishing the challenge.

She ducked under a sword swing, retaliating with a point-blank gust of wind that sent the attacker crashing through a nearby wall. Another darian lunged at her, but she sidestepped.

"Glacies solum, congelascere!"

The ground beneath the charging darian turned to ice. He slipped, his momentum carrying him face-first into a horse trough.

[... This is a little too easy,] Zephyra thought, almost disappointed. [I was hoping for a real workout.]

The remaining darians, seeing their comrades fall so easily, began to retreat.

But Zephyra wasn't about to let them off that easily.

"Oh no, you don't," she muttered.

Inhaling slowly, she spoke:

"Ventus murus, circumdare!"

A wall of swirling wind sprang up, encircling the battlefield and trapping the darians inside.

"Now then," Zephyra said, her voice carrying easily over the howling wind, "who wants to surrender, and who wants to take a permanent nap?"

The darians looked at each other, then back at Zephyra. Slowly, weapons began to clatter to the ground.

[Smart choice,] Zephyra thought, allowing herself a satisfied smile.

As the local militia began to round up the surrendering darians, Zephyra let out a yawn.

The villagers stared at her in awe, a few of the bolder ones cheering and whistling. Zephyra basked in the attention, giving a little bow.

[Not a bad way to start the morning,] she mused, already heading back to the tavern. [Meh, whatever. Maybe I can stay an hour longer. One more meal, one more fuck, and then, I'll go.]

As she pushed open the tavern door, Zephyra couldn't help but feel a twinge of excitement.

"Ladies, I'm back!"

And, immediately, both kitsune from before ran up and almost tackled her.

[Ah... Yeah, Syux can wait a liiiiiittle while longer, surely.]

Her mind thought back to that nim, momentarily. The nim mage.

[Hm...] Her smile faded briefly. [Now, there's a story I'll be looking forward to learning all about. But-]

She picked one of the girls - the futanari - up.

[-for now, I guess I can push that into the back of my mind... I have a kitsune to milk.]
