Quest Completed: Escape Jade City Quest Time Remaining Reward
3 seconds
3,000,000 gold coins

Yaeger blinked, momentarily stunned by the announcement. She had risked everything to escape, yet all she got was a measly three million? Was this some kind of joke?!

In the past, she would’ve been thrilled with 30,000—let alone 300,000. But now? She was filthy rich. More importantly, the effort she put in and the reward she got were ridiculously disproportionate!

She had just escaped a Legendary powerhouse! Any other player would’ve been caught a thousand times over.

"Sister System, something’s wrong with this reward!" Yaeger protested. She didn’t actually expect Sister System to justify it—she just needed to vent. But, to her surprise, the system actually responded.

This quest had a time limit of 7,200 seconds. The reward was 1,000,000 gold per second. The total possible reward—7.2 billion.

Ordinarily, Yaeger would’ve been overjoyed that her beloved, ever-busy Sister System actually took the time to explain. But the moment she heard 7.2 billion, she nearly spat out blood. She never expected the reward to be this insane.

"This can’t be real. I just lost over seven billion?!?!" Regret hit her like a sledgehammer. If she had known the reward was that massive, she would’ve never hesitated. Who cared about the filth in the sewers? She would’ve sprinted straight to the exit!

‘Sob, sob, sob—I regret everything!!!' Every wasted second had cost her a million. It felt like someone had carved her heart to pieces and then rubbed salt into the wounds.

Just then, a faint tremor pulsed through the water. An instant later, a terrifying aura erupted, washing over all of Jade City. Even the depths of the moat trembled under its force.

"Hah—mad, are we?" Sensing the source of the aura, Yaeger smirked. Knowing that Richard was losing his mind in rage brought her a strange sense of satisfaction.

Meanwhile, in Jade City, both players and natives alike were gripped by terror. They could feel it—that their insignificant lives now dangled at the mercy of an unseen force. One wrong move, and they’d be obliterated.

Of course, that was just an illusion. Richard wasn’t that omnipotent.

"You filthy w̲h̲o̲r̲e̲!" Standing atop a towering rooftop, Richard seethed with an anger unlike anything he’d ever known.

Even as he acted personally, he still failed. It was an absolute humiliation. She was nothing more than a weak and insignificant ant, yet she had managed to infuriate and humiliate him beyond reason.

"Don't think you can just run away. As long as you're within the Jade Empire, you won't escape my grasp!" Behind the mask, his once-handsome face twisted with rage as his voice turned cold and ominous. The air around him grew noticeably frigid.

At the river inlet… Yaeger’s smile faded, replaced by a solemn expression. She had managed to escape from Jade City, but a new problem had already emerged.

‘Not much oxygen left…’ As she gazed into the pitch-black water ahead, Yaeger frowned. By her estimation, it would take nearly ten minutes to reach the main river. But with only her breath and the remaining oxygen in the sphere, she wouldn’t last more than four minutes.

Turning back and surfacing in the moat was a death sentence. There was no guarantee she would even make it to shore alive. If Richard continued his search, she would be caught the moment she surfaced.

‘What should I do? Am I really going to be the first player to drown in this server?'

Dying such an absurd death was the last thing Yaeger wanted. Besides, even if she died, she would just respawn in the same place. That wouldn’t solve anything.

‘I’ll just drown again the moment I respawn. This is a nightmare!' She shook her head, then suddenly, inspiration struck. "Wait! I think I picked up something water-related after killing those sewer mermaids!"

She hadn’t had time to check back then due to the urgency, but she vaguely recalled its name: [Aqua Dodge Bead]!

She quickly opened her inventory—and there it was. With a quick tap, the item’s description appeared.

Aqua Dodge Bead Rarity Uses Remaining Description Note
Rare
99
A mystical bead from the Mermaid Empire, allowing the user to glide effortlessly through water, just like a mermaid.
Each use lasts for 30 minutes.

Excitement surged through Yaeger as she read the description. She hadn’t expected to have such a useful tool in her possession. The very thing she desperately needed had been right under her nose all along.

Without hesitation, she activated it. A pale blue film of light shimmered into existence, instantly surrounding her. At once, Yaeger felt fresh air rushing in from the outside.

‘This is amazing!’ Her fists clenched with excitement. "Now that I think about it, I really didn’t expect things to unfold like this. I was definitely a bit careless."

Staring into the pitch-black void ahead, Yaeger murmured to herself. She had anticipated Richard’s retaliation from the beginning. However, she hadn’t expected the Emperor to go to such extremes—sealing off the entire city just to trap her.

Just when escape seemed impossible, salvation arrived in the form of Rosalina, as if by fate. Looking back, Yaeger was relieved she had been ruthless with Rosalina back then. Had she ignored Rosalina, she wouldn’t have gained enough Favorability.

Without that Favorability, Rosalina would never have stepped in to help. And without that, she never would have made it to the sewers. If that were the case, death would have been her only option. After all, survival meant enduring a fate far worse than death.

Moreover, even suicide was nearly impossible. The only way she could die was by being overwhelmed by other players. Only now did Yaeger fully grasp the futility of suicide.

The passive effect of the [Green Emperor’s Longevity Manual] would trigger. Instead of a quick death, she would be trapped in endless agony—writhing in pain until delirium took hold.

A torment far worse than being flayed alive. If she allowed herself to be killed, her equipment would definitely drop. Worst of all, she had no idea how many pieces she might lose.

"In the end, I only have one choice."

With oxygen no longer an issue, Yaeger relaxed slightly. There was no need to rush. She needed time to think.

"Rosalina’s intervention was pure chance, just like the sewer mermaid’s trial. Those two lucky breaks were the only reason I escaped Jade City. It feels too coincidental… But with my Luck stat at 666, I suppose stumbling into fortune is only natural."

Yaeger chuckled, shaking her head. Then, like a graceful mermaid, she swam away with ease.

Meanwhile, Richard had returned to the palace. Now adorned in opulent robes and a regal crown, Richard’s appearance was a stark contrast to his former crime-lord-like attire.

In the grand hall, the partially recovered Blei knelt before him, his head bowed low.

"Blei, spread my decree. Launch a full-scale empire-wide manhunt for the outsider—[Princess]!" Richard commanded grimly from his throne.
