Chapter 17: Chapter 17 It’s All Because Jiner is Useless
“Heh…” Old Madam Chu scoffed with irony, her piercing eyes staring at Luo Jiner as she said, “You wouldn’t have killed Shao He and my great-grandson just to be with Chu Yu, would you?”
“No, it wasn’t me, I didn’t, I never thought about competing with my sister for the Marquis, I just wanted to stay by the Marquis’s side, being with him was enough for me.” @@novelbin@@
Luo Jiner’s eyes reddened, and tears swirled in her eyes, her pitiable appearance evoking sympathy from others.
Chu Yu felt even more distressed and gently patted the back of her hand, explaining, “Grandmother, this has nothing to do with Jiner, it was that woman’s own bad fate, it’s not someone else’s fault.”
“Smack…”
Old Madam Chu directly smashed her cup to the ground, shouting angrily, “You insolent thing, how dare you speak to your elder like this, have you no respect for the heavens?”
Luo Jiner raised her hand to wipe the tears from the corners of her eyes and knelt on the ground to apologize.
“I’m sorry, Old Madam, I shouldn’t have angered you, it’s all my fault, it’s all my fault, you can beat or scold Jiner and I will have no complaints.”
Old Madam Chu was so infuriated by her act that she pointed to the door and cursed, “Get out, I don’t want to see you anymore.”
When Chu Yu saw the woman he loved kneeling on the ground, tears falling one by one, he felt an immense heartache and hurriedly spoke up in her defense, “Grandmother, Shao He was unfaithful, shameless, how can you blame everything on Jiner?”
Old Madam Chu became even more disgusted with Luo Jiner upon seeing how Chu Yu defended her.
Old Madam Chu calmed down and a cold smile hooked at the corner of her lips, “If you like her that much, I shall not stand in the way.”
She understood very well what Chu Yu was like; once he was set on something, no one could change his mind, and if she tried to forcefully stop him, it would likely backfire.
Luo Jiner immediately cheered up upon hearing Old Madam Chu relent.
Before they could finish rejoicing, Old Madam Chu sipped her tea and continued, “Then let her be your chambermaid, since she doesn’t care about status and only wants to be by your side.”
These words struck Luo Jiner and Chu Yu like a bolt from the blue.
A chambermaid?
Luo Jiner’s eyes widened in shock, unable to believe what she was hearing.
“Grand… Grandmother, that’s not acceptable,” Chu Yu immediately objected.
A chambermaid was the lowest of the low; if Jiner really became his chambermaid, wouldn’t she be mocked by the entire Chu Mansion?
“Hmph, you have no say in this!” Old Madam Chu left in a huff after speaking, not giving him a chance to speak.
“Grandmother,” Chu Yu roared in anger.
Seeing this, Luo Jiner sensed trouble and quickly grabbed Chu Yu’s sleeve, speaking in a weak and pitiable voice, “Marquis, I am willing to be a chambermaid, but please don’t be angry with Grandmother.”
Upon hearing this, Chu Yu clenched his fists in anguish and growled through clenched teeth, “Damn that Shao He, I must have been blind to marry her!”
Luo Jiner hugged the furious man and pleaded, “Grandmother seems to really like the child that the wife bore; every time she mentions the child, she can’t help but sigh.”
A thought occurred to Chu Yu when he heard this.
Since Grandmother liked the child so much, perhaps if Jiner bore a son, Grandmother could accept her. But then he remembered, Jiner had injured herself saving him and might have difficulties conceiving again.
“I’ve wronged you, you’ve given so much, yet you can’t even have the position of a legal wife, but I, the Marquis, will not fail you.”
Chu Yu resolved to find a doctor for her, determined to heal Jiner’s ailment no matter what.
“It’s all Jiner’s fault, Jiner’s no good, for not being able to give birth to a son for the Marquis sooner,” Luo Jiner said with downcast eyes and in a soft voice.
“It is I, the Marquis, who is incompetent for not making you the legal wife, I will find the best doctor to heal you, to restore your health,” he said.
At his words, Luo Jiner’s lips curled into a gentle, sweet smile, and a triumphant smirk flitted across the bottom of her eyes.
What do you think?
