Chapter 20: Chapter 20: How did you come back?
Looking at the series of Beauty Pictures, Chu Yu declared resolutely, “Grandmother, I will not marry another woman.”
Upon hearing this, Old Madam Chu forcefully slapped the table, bypassed the screen, and entered the inner room. The sight of the person lying on the bed bed filled her with fury.
“A woman who can’t bear children still has the face to live, and even shamelessly monopolizes Yuyu. She truly is a calamity born of beauty.” In her anger, Old Madam Chu picked up the teacup from the table and threw it.
Chu Yu caught the cup in time and said with anger in his eyes, “Grandmother, this has nothing to do with Jiner. Shao He’s body is not yet cold, and remarrying now would likely be criticized by others. Please reconsider.”
This excuse rendered Old Madam Chu speechless, as the honor of the Marquis’s Mansion indeed needed to be considered carefully to avoid giving others something to chew on.
But she was not going to let Luo Jiner off the hook; monopolizing Chu Yu was utterly impossible.
“Fine, let’s delay the matter of remarriage.”
Old Madam Chu glanced at the sickly person and continued, holding Chu Yu’s hand, “Luo Jiner is unwell now, so I will arrange for two maids for you.”
Upon hearing this, Luo Jiner almost fainted. She had barely managed to kill Shao He, the chief wife, thinking she could take her place as the lady of the Marquis’s Mansion, but this damned old woman simply wouldn’t agree.
Now, she still wanted to wedge people by the Marquis’s side, all to snatch the Marquis’s affection from her.
“Marquis, please agree to grandmother’s request,” Luo Jiner pleaded, pulling on his hand, her eyes brimming with aggrieved emotions.
Old Madam Chu had no mood to watch her continue to perform, and turned around to leave. That very day, she sent two maids over.
Chu Yu was about to send them away when the nanny loudly said from outside the door, “Old Madam instructed, if the Marquis does not keep these two, Luo Jiner must also leave with them.”
Hearing this, Chu Yu had no choice but to take them in.
When Luo Jiner heard the news, she was so furious that she smashed all the porcelain in the room.
She glared with rage, biting her teeth, “This damned old woman, why can’t she tolerate me!”
She was only one step away from rightfully marrying Chu Yu and becoming the lady of the Marquis’s Mansion, but now she was forced to become just another maid.
She would never give up!
A week later, Jhiang Yijia could finally leave, and Lady Jhiang brought out twenty taels of silver as his consultation fee.
Shao He pocketed the weighty silver and saw Jhiang Yijia off in the carriage. At parting, he repeatedly cautioned her.
“During this time, pay attention to rest and eat some light food. Do not eat things like eggs, and avoid intercourse for a few months.”
“Alright, I have noted everything down. Thank you, Doctor,” Jhiang Yijia responded gently.
As Shao He watched the carriage moving further away, he turned back to the pharmacy, rushing to gather all the medicinal herbs being dried in the courtyard as the sky began to darken.
At midnight, a startling thunderclap made the child in bed cry nonstop.
Shao He picked him up and soothed him softly. The child gradually fell asleep to his gentle song. As she put down the sleeping child, a sudden noise came from outside the door!
Shao He reached under the pillow for the dagger, got out of bed, dressed, and walked to the door.
“Knock, knock, knock.” A light knocking sound rang out.
“Who is it?”
“It’s me.”
A deep voice replied, @@novelbin@@
Shao He abruptly opened the door and, seeing the person in the wheelchair, exclaimed, “How did you come back?”
Pei Huaian glanced inside and whispered, “Can I come in? It’s windy outside; don’t let it blow on the child.”
Shao He nodded, “Come in.”
What do you think?
