Chapter 28: Chapter 28: In Your Lifetime, You Will Surely Embrace Your Great-Grandchild
Chu Yu saw Luo Jiner’s appearance and tenderly helped her up from the ground.
“Jiner, are you hurt?” Chu Yu asked tenderly, as his warm gaze fell upon her face, wishing he could melt her into his arms.
Luo Jiner shook her head with her head bowed low, “Jiner is fine.” @@novelbin@@
“Marquis…” The woman beside him called out in aggrievement, tears streaming down her cheeks.
Seeing her cry, Chu Yu felt nothing but annoyance in his heart, “If there is a next time, I shall not be lenient.”
“Marquis, clearly it was…”
The woman tried to explain but was interrupted by Luo Jiner, “It’s Jiner’s fault. Marquis, don’t blame my sisters. They are right, Jiner is infertile, and I should not continue to stay by the Marquis’s side.”
Luo Jiner lifted her head, her face donning a tragic smile, her eyes like autumn water filled with despair, as if she had endured all the grievances.
Chu Yu took her hand in his, his expression tense, “You are still so kind-hearted, always considering others first.”
His gaze turned dark as he looked at the other two women, and he coldly commanded, “Someone, drag these two women out and give them ten whippings each, then confine them to their rooms. Without my order, they are not to step out of their rooms.”
Upon hearing this, the two women trembled in fear, quickly knelt down to beg for mercy, but Chu Yu ignored them.
Luo Jiner watched as the two were dragged away, a hint of smugness flickering in the depths of her eyes.
Chu Yu supported Luo Jiner as they walked toward the room, asking with concern, “How did the medical visit go today? What did the doctor say?”
Upon mentioning this matter, Luo Jiner said nervously, “That doctor is nothing but a fame-seeker. Presumably curing Miss Jhiang was a smokescreen too; the Jhiang Family likely doesn’t want to keep an old maid around and deliberately spread such rumors.”
“No matter, I will find you another doctor,” Chu Yu said, feeling a touch of disappointment in his heart.
Only then did Luo Jiner breathe a sigh of relief, lifting her eyes to see Old Madam Chu stopping in her tracks ahead.
She had thought the Old Madam had come to rebuke her, but instead, the Old Madam broke from her usual behavior with concern, “How did the consultation go?”
Chu Yu also thought his grandmother had come because of those two women, but to his surprise, she had come to show concern for Jiner, and he simply repeated what Luo Jiner had said.
Chu Yu thought his grandmother would burst into a furious rant upon hearing this, but unexpectedly, the Old Madam no longer maintained her forceful demeanor and instead sighed, allowing the nanny to support her as she said, “It seems I won’t be able to hold a great-grandchild in my lifetime.”
He immediately stepped forward to comfort her, “Grandmother, what are you saying? During your lifetime, you will surely be able to hold a great-grandchild, and watch him grow up.”
Old Madam Chu didn’t press the issue any further, hiding the disappointment in her eyes as she turned away, looking desolate.
Watching his grandmother’s despondent departure, his heart ached.
Luo Jiner clenched her hand that rested by her side, understanding that she had to stay alert as this old lady could change her tactics in an instant, fearing that she might not be able to match the Old Madam.
Luo Jiner then immediately pretended to be fragile and started to sob, “It’s all Jiner’s fault for being useless, but Jiner has never regretted saving the Marquis. Even if I had to do it all over again, I would save the Marquis without hesitation, even if it means I cannot bear children for the rest of my life.”
Her feigned suffering caught Chu Yu’s attention, and he held Luo Jiner close in his embrace.
“I will spare no effort to find someone to cure you.”
In the chilling cold wind, snowflakes danced in the air. The world was a vast expanse of white, where only an antique-looking courtyard stood quietly amidst the swirling snow.
“Whoosh!”
A gust of fierce wind swept through, carrying with it the heavy snow, which picked up the snow accumulated in the courtyard and whirled it towards the deeper parts of the courtyard.
What do you think?
