Chapter 65: Chapter 66 I have a stomachache!

“It’s good that you know.” Shao He felt somewhat uneasy as she turned her face away, looking through the carriage window at the scenery outside, which was on the way back.

As if recalling something, Shao He suddenly turned her head to look at Pei Huaian, her eyes carrying a hint of surprise.

Under the intensity of her gaze, Pei Huaian raised his head and met those clear, distinct eyes, with a slight smile at the corner of his mouth.

“What is it?” @@novelbin@@

Staring at him with a cold gaze, Shao He asked after a moment, “I’ve never mentioned where I live, so how could Ah Mo know?”

Pei Huaian’s smile stiffened, feeling she had misunderstood, and hurriedly began to explain, “Ah Mo and I saw you come and go here by chance and knew that you lived here too.”

Shao He was taken aback by his words and asked, “Don’t tell me you live here as well?”

“I live in the five-section compound in the alley,” Pei Huaian replied indifferently.

No sooner had he finished speaking than the carriage stopped. Shao He didn’t investigate further and, looking at the medical herbs in the carriage, thought of asking Ah Mo to help bring them inside.

Pei Huaian volunteered, “There are so many herbs, let us help you bring them in.”

Shao He did not refuse, and Ah Mo, carrying a pile of herbs, looked at his master, who was empty-handed, with a howl of grief in his heart; it was the master who had offered to help, yet it was he who was carrying the goods.

In this way, Pei Huaian entered the residence openly and uprightly. Following orders, Ah Mo placed the herbs in the side room and, catching his master’s glance, retreated to wait outside the door.

Shao He poured a cup of tea for him, which Pei Huaian accepted and took a light sip. Just then, Qingxia came over, holding Xiao Linzhang in her arms.

Seeing the child, Pei Huaian smiled slightly, “Xiao Linzhang seems to have gained quite a bit of weight.”

After speaking, he reached out intending to hold the child. Only after Qingxia saw the miss’s consenting eyes did she hand the child over to him.

Yet everything seemed too smooth to be true.

The next morning, two rare visitors arrived at Anji Hall. Upon seeing the two approaching, Yun Qian rose from his seat to greet them.

“My lord Marquis, are you feeling unwell? Allow me to take your pulse.”

“No need, I’m here for Doctor Shao.”

Yun Qian thought he had come to make trouble and looked troubled.

However, Chu Yu unexpectedly spoke to Yun Qian gently, “What’s the matter? Is it inconvenient?”

Not knowing quite how to respond, Yun Qian tried to tactfully decline, “We have quite a few patients today, so it might be a while. Maybe, my lord Marquis, you…”

He hadn’t finished speaking when Chu Yu, with an unconcerned face, said, “No matter, then we will wait in the back.”

This caught Yun Qian by surprise; why did Chu Yu seem so out of character today?

He whispered something into Shao He’s ear.

Following his pointing finger, Shao He looked over and saw the two waiting impatiently, their eyebrows tightly furrowed, wondering what they were up to.

“Never mind, you go attend to your matters. I’ll handle this.”

Yun Qian nodded and left but still looked back worriedly.

Just as Chu Yu’s patience was running thin, it finally became their turn.

“I ask Doctor Shao to examine Jiner and see if her illness can be treated,” Chu Yu, rarely squeezing out a smile, said with a very polite attitude.

Shao He was initially surprised by his sudden change in demeanor, only to learn he wanted her to treat Luo Jiner, and she couldn’t help but curl the corners of her mouth in response.

“My medical skills are not refined; I must ask the Marquis to seek someone more expert,” Shao He demurred.

“Why so modest, Doctor Shao? We have come precisely because we trust your medical expertise,” Chu Yu said, patiently.

Shao He crossed her arms, saw his hypocritical face, and said coldly, “Last time, didn’t the Marquis call me a charlatan? Moreover, while it is our duty to treat the sick, it is impossible to treat patients who do not trust us, lest we be bitten back later. It would be better for the Marquis to seek help from the Imperial Physician.”

Listening to her sarcastic words, Luo Jiner clenched the embroidered handkerchief in her hand tightly, her downcast eyes masking the hatred within.

Chu Yu studied her face, noticing she had become prettier than before and her temperament had changed drastically. Despite the anger boiling in his heart, he restrained himself from venting it since he was the one seeking a favor.

Luo Jiner’s mouth turned downward slightly, revealing a look of aggrievement.

“Sister… with Doctor Shao’s superb medical skills, why won’t you treat me? Did I offend you somehow? If so, I apologize to you right here,” she said.

“Stop your pretense. I just don’t want to have anything more to do with the Marquis’s Mansion. It’s best if we never cross paths again,” Shao He retorted.

Shao He realized her words implied she was targeting Luo Jiner, but she didn’t care; that was indeed her wish.

Hearing her boldly admit it, Chu Yu felt somewhat frustrated, not expecting her to be so eager to disassociate from him.

“Don’t forget, your child is also my child, and he is the Legitimate Eldest Son of my house!” he exclaimed.

Shao He couldn’t help but laugh upon hearing this. She thought she now knew what it meant to have a skin thicker than the city wall. He had murdered his wife and child, yet he had the audacity to claim the child was her Legitimate Eldest Son—this was the most ludicrous thing she had heard all year.

Listening, Luo Jiner’s heart leapt, especially at the phrase “Legitimate Eldest Son.” It made her sense the importance Chu Yu placed on the child. Then, thinking of the Old Madam’s desire to hold her great-grandson, she pressed her hand against her stomach, feigning discomfort.

Noticing her distress, Chu Yu immediately supported her, asking, “What’s wrong?”

“My stomach… my stomach hurts!”
