Chapter 82: Chapter 83: Indifferent and Alienated from Him
“Did I speak wrongly? Is Marquis Chu unaware of what kind of person Princess Huimin is? Could my few words really spur Princess Huimin to do such a thing? Marquis, better use your brain when you can’t sleep at night,” Shao He sneered.
Chu Yu was so angry that he gritted his teeth, but he couldn’t utter a single word in retort.
Shao He’s gaze fell on Luo Jiner, her lips slightly raised as she said, “I advise you to behave yourself, otherwise the next time I see you, I might not have the same attitude!”
After speaking, Shao He ignored the stunned pair and turned to leave.
“You, you actually dared…” Chu Yu watched her disappearing back, standing frozen in place like a bolt from the blue, unable to move for a long time.
He had always thought Shao He was meek and easy to bully, but he hadn’t expected her to be so formidable, not fearing him at all, and every word she spoke deeply pierced his sore spots.
...
Without a word, Chu Yu left quickly, and Luo Jiner carefully followed behind, daring not to complain any further.
Jhiang Yijia stepped out of the Princess’s Mansion, having heard the entire conversation. Seeing Doctor Shao reveal such an agitated side for the first time, she cautiously approached and asked, “Doctor Shao, are you in a bad mood?”
Shao He remembered the first time she met Pei Huaian; he was dressed poorly, later became wealthy, and now she realized his identity might be linked with the Royal Descendant, feeling she had been deceived to this day and almost got herself into trouble, which annoyed her.
“I…” Shao He began to speak but stopped herself mid-sentence, then reconsidered that Pei Huaian had helped her a lot, and she had no right to question him.
“What’s happened?” Jhiang Yijia saw the hesitance, waiting for her to continue.
“It’s nothing.” In the end, Shao He kept it all to herself without revealing anything.
Jhiang Yijia noticed her upset expression and didn’t press further, changing the subject to ask, “How did you heal Princess Huimin and the Commandery Princess’s facial pox so quickly?”
“It’s not healed yet, just temporarily covered up,” Shao He absentmindedly replied.
Jhiang Yijia sensed her mood was off and didn’t ask any more, then they both entered the carriage together.
Shao He returned to the estate, Xiao Linzhang had already gone to sleep, and Nanny Zhang had taken good care of him, the little guy having gained quite a bit of weight recently.
Just as she was about to go rest after checking on the child, Qing Shan suddenly came to report, “Miss, Young Master Pei has come to visit, he’s already waiting in the front hall.”
“Hmm,” Shao He responded and proceeded to the front hall.
Seeing the icy-faced person, Pei Huaian smiled and said, “I didn’t expect that you would go to the Princess’s Mansion today to offer birthday congratulations.”
“Yes, I didn’t expect to encounter Young Master Pei there either, quite unexpected,” Shao He spoke very coldly.
Pei Huaian noticed her demeanor was off, puzzled, he asked, “Are you in a bad mood?”
“I’m feeling quite well, Young Master Pei, whether it’s leg pain or some discomfort, if you need medicine, please go to Jian Hall,” Shao He, not wanting to speak with him further, turned to leave.
Pei Huaian called out, “Wait a moment.”
Shao He looked at the things he had bought for the child without taking them, instead speaking very coldly, “Young Master Pei, it’s better if you reduce purchasing things for the child in the future, to avoid misunderstandings that are hard to explain.”
Pei Huaian now fully felt her mood was off, and her attitude somewhat astray, tentatively asking, “Are you angry that I hid my identity?” @@novelbin@@
“Your identity has nothing to do with me; I am just a female doctor, of low status and worried about causing trouble. One Chu Yu is already enough trouble for me; I do not wish to complicate things further,” Shao He’s reply clearly set a boundary.
Pei Huaian felt a bitter pain in his heart, realizing it was his preconceived notion that had been poorly considered before coming to her.
“I’m sorry for causing you trouble,” Pei Huaian sincerely apologized.
“I am very grateful for your repeated help, and aside from treating the leg, I can still help you with other things, but that is all,” Shao He did not want to continue this way, knowing Pei Huaian’s identity could bring her more trouble.
Understanding her concerns, Pei Huaian put down what he was holding, then spoke again, “I apologize for the disturbance.”
“Hmm, take care on your way out,” Shao He gave them a brief glance, stepping away without any hesitation.
Pei Huaian returned to the courtyard, gazing at the neighboring tree in a trance, occasionally hearing the child’s cries.
The hand resting on his leg gradually tightened, his eyes expressing deep sadness.
Ah Mo, seeing his master like this, approached and bowed, “Master, why don’t we take the child?”
“Can you take care of a child? Would a child be safe with me?” Pei Huaian asked sharply.
That comment left Ah Mo speechless. These big men hardly knew how to care for a child, and truly, a child would not be as safe with them as with Doctor Shao.
Seeing his master like this, he couldn’t help but whisper, “Or perhaps, Master, you and the Commandery Princess could have one…”
Before he could finish, a fierce killing intent emerged, causing Ah Mo to step back two steps; seeing his master’s glare, he quickly covered his mouth.
“If you dare talk too much, I’ll cut out your tongue,” Pei Huaian’s deep voice became grim.
The warning did not sound like a joke, and Ah Mo, knowing his master was truly angry, dared not speak another word.
What do you think?
