Chapter 314: Chapter 314 Is this man a machine?
Abigail stared blankly at the man, suddenly realizing the clothes she was wearing. So he chose the size?
Then she suddenly thought that since arriving at Piers’ Mansion, no one had ever asked her for her measurements. Yet, whether she was fat before or losing weight gradually, her clothes always fit perfectly.
This was also why she originally thought she hadn’t lost any weight.
Could it be that he selected all her clothes?
Abigail looked at Brandon with a strange expression. Was this man a machine? Could he scan the human body so accurately?
And indeed, she had lost around forty pounds since giving birth.
“This outfit looks good too,” Brandon spoke again.
Abigail felt awkward, unsure if this man meant she looked good in this outfit or if the outfit itself was good.
“Dummy.” Seeming to see right through Abigail’s thoughts, Brandon gently curled his lips.
Abigail, “…” Did this man enjoy making personal attacks?
In her previous life, she had at least been called a genius. He called her fat and even dumb?
This was too much.
“I’ll be waiting downstairs for you.” Seeing the flurry of expressions on Abigail’s chubby face, mixed with some self-doubt, Brandon feared he couldn’t help but laugh, which would ruin his image. Leaving this line, he elegantly walked downstairs.
Abigail was suddenly left alone without any warning, staring at the man’s straight back in confusion, then turned to look at herself in the mirror.
She had to admit this outfit was indeed well-chosen. It concealed her flaws and infinitely magnified her strengths. Though she was still fat, it lacked the greasy feel from before, and the aura was closer to her former self.
However, the biggest reason for these changes still came down to the forty pounds she lost. If she still weighed 200 pounds, even in this outfit, she would still be ugly beyond redemption.
The next seventy-one pounds still remained a long process to lose!
“Abigail, you can do it!” She paused and then looked at the chubby girl in the mirror again. “Abigail Green, you can do it!”
…
Green’s Mansion.
Ever since Abigail’s people took over Lincoln Pharmaceuticals, the entire Green’s Mansion had been shrouded in gloom.
Chairman Lincoln Green’s position had been replaced. Although he still held thirty percent of the shares and hadn’t been ousted from the company, his duties were replaced. Now he was just like a meaningless figure in the company.
For the past few days, Lincoln Green would still wander around the company, always nitpicking the professional managers, only to return home each time with a sullen face.
On the third day, he refused to go to the company anymore, cursing the old employees for being ungrateful, but knowing in his heart that his time was over.
The professional manager Abigail hired was beyond his comparison in terms of tactics and actions.
But while Lincoln refused to go, Rose Taylor was not resigned.
Her situation was even more miserable than Lincoln’s.
This morning, she received a lawyer’s letter from the company. If she didn’t repay the money, they would take legal action.
Holding the lawyer’s letter, Rose almost ripped it apart, but eventually restrained herself and tearfully went to beg Lincoln Green.
Lincoln looked unconcerned. “Rose, don’t be afraid. She’s just trying to scare you. She wouldn’t dare. Even if she does, since you didn’t do anything, we have nothing to fear.”
Rose, already furious from Abigail’s previous manipulations, didn’t know whether Lincoln was truly stupid or pretending to be. At this point, what wouldn’t that fat bitch dare?
Jackson had already been sent to prison, and now that fat bitch had hold of her weakness. Would she let them go? Impossible!
Taking a deep breath, Rose tried hard to control her emotions, her eyes red. “Honey, how can I not be afraid? You saw with your own eyes how she sent Jackson to prison. Now, she has deep misunderstandings against Ruby and me. How would she ever let us go? Moreover, with her current abilities, wouldn’t it be easy for her to fabricate a pile of evidence?”
“She has no such abilities!” Lincoln scoffed.
“She might not, but the second master does. This time, the manager was hired by the second master.” Rose deliberately touched Lincoln’s sore spot.
Sure enough, mentioning the newly hired manager of Lincoln Pharmaceuticals made Lincoln’s face ugly.
Rose pressed on. “Honey, what would happen if she sued me too? What would you do then?”
Saying this, she clung to Lincoln with a sorrowful look.
Lincoln was momentarily influenced by her emotion, thinking if Rose got sued too, what would remain of the Green family?
“Honey, our Green family has some reputation in Gills City. Marrying our daughter to the Piers family, we thought it could bring us some glory. But who knew this child, Abigail, not only failed to bring fortune to our family but even turned against her mother’s home, took over the company, and now wants to… handle me. Does that mean she’ll target you next?”
In the end, Rose appeared genuinely emotional, her sobs intense.
Lincoln, who had initially been angry at Rose for her greed, now realized he couldn’t let this development continue. However, two million… wasn’t a small amount.
“Rose, tell me honestly, did you spend the money?” To help her, Lincoln needed to know the truth. He had trusted Rose and her daughter so much over the years, never imagining they would embezzle company funds right under his nose.
“Well…” Rose stammered, knowing she couldn’t lie her way out of this one. But she was prepared, casting a troubled look at Lincoln before sighing and retrieving a stack of receipts from the bedroom cabinet, placing them before him. “I’m sorry, Lincoln. I shouldn’t have lied to you.”
Lincoln was stunned, not expecting Rose to actually deceive him. His face darkened as he took the receipts from Rose’s hand to uncover what more she might lie about. But opening them, he was stunned. “This…”
“I’m sorry, honey…”
“You…how could you be so…kind?” Lincoln didn’t know whether to feel moved or call her foolish, seeing the list of donations and the beneficiaries.
“I know, honey. You never forgot about Minnie, and her biggest wish was to help homeless orphans in the country. Now that I’m in her position, how could I not continue fulfilling her wish? It’s just, each year the orphanage’s needs grew. My income was like a drop in the bucket, so I used the company’s funds thinking I’d replace them later…”
Rose’s eyes glistened with tears. “Selling the shares wasn’t really meant as dowry for Ruby, but to cover the company’s gap. Who knew things would turn out this way. Honey, I’m sorry!”
“It’s my fault. This is my fault, not yours…” Lincoln hadn’t expected Rose to maintain Minnie’s support for the orphanages over the years. After Minnie’s death, he had been devastated, resentful, even taking it out on their daughter, and neglecting Lincoln Pharmaceuticals for over six months. Many companies took advantage of this, and when he recovered, the company had been severely weakened.
As for other matters, they were out of his control entirely. He never thought Rose remembered.
Lincoln was greatly moved!
What do you think?
