Chapter 341: Chapter 341: Lincoln Green’s Conditions for Inheriting Shares
Lincoln Green had not yet left the house the next morning when Rose Taylor received the court summons first.
Looking at the summons, Rose Taylor suddenly remembered that she still owed the company twenty million.
Yesterday’s chaos had made her forget about it.
Now, holding the court summons, Rose Taylor felt a bit dazed. That fat man really sued her?
“Honey, what… what should I do?” Rose Taylor looked at Lincoln Green with the court summons in her hand, feeling aggrieved and hurt.
“Don’t worry, I’ll cover it for you.” Lincoln Green, seeing Rose Taylor’s fragile and frightened look, hurriedly embraced her to comfort her.
“Thank you, darling.” Rose Taylor leaned on Lincoln Green, relying on him completely.
Lincoln Green’s sense of masculinity was fully satisfied, and he felt a strong desire to protect the woman next to him.
When the lawyer arrived, the group headed to the Gills City branch of Midsummer Trust.
Manager Norda of the Midsummer branch received Lincoln Green.
“Mr. Green, who are these two?” After a brief introduction, Manager Norda looked at the two people behind Lincoln Green and seriously inquired.
Lincoln Green cheerfully introduced them, “Oh, this is my wife, Mrs. Rose Taylor, and this is my lawyer, Lawyer Felton.”
“Hello, Mrs. Taylor, hello, Lawyer Felton.” Manager Norda politely exchanged greetings and then looked back at Lincoln Green, “Although it might be a bit offensive, I must ask which year Mr. Green and Mrs. Taylor got a marriage certificate?”
“Is this also necessary?” Lincoln Green frowned, slightly dissatisfied.
Rose Taylor frowned too, and had a very bad feeling.
“Yes.” Manager Norda replied with a sincere smile, clearly not intending to be polite despite his words.
“This…” Rose Taylor uneasily tugged at Lincoln Green.
Although Lincoln Green was unhappy, he did not want to delay his matters over such a small issue and answered impatiently, “It was 2xx8, July, I think.”
“Oh.” Manager Norda nodded.
“Can we talk about my deceased wife’s affairs now? Why did she entrust her assets to Midsummer Trust? As her husband, I have the right to know and to inherit all her belongings.” Previously, when Lincoln Green learned that Minnie Swift had left an inheritance with Midsummer Trust, especially the potential shares of Piers, he had no strong feelings. However, after being provoked by Brandon Piers yesterday, Lincoln Green was now more eager than Rose Taylor to obtain that inheritance.
After he finished speaking, Manager Norda looked at him apologetically, “Sorry, Mr. Green, you are not eligible to inherit Mrs. Swift’s assets.”
“What?” Lincoln Green thought he had heard it wrong.
But Manager Norda from Midsummer reaffirmed by nodding confidently, “Yes, according to Mrs. Swift’s will, you are not eligible.”
Rose Taylor also became anxious.
“Why!” Lincoln Green felt a faint pain in his chest. On the way here, he had already planned to obtain the five percent of Piers shares to team up with the second branch of Piers and crush that arrogant fool.
But now Midsummer Trust’s people told him he was not eligible to inherit Minnie’s estate. Why?
Manager Norda answered very professionally, unaffected by Lincoln Green’s emotions, “Mrs. Swift signed an agreement with us before her death. If Mr. Green remarried before Miss Abigail Green turned eighteen, he would not be qualified to intervene or inherit her estate.”
“What did you say? Say it again!” Lincoln Green’s eyes opened wide, unable to believe the result.
“According to Mrs. Swift’s agreement, if Mr. Green remarried before Miss Abigail Green turned eighteen, he would not be qualified to intervene or inherit her estate.” Manager Norda patiently repeated.
“Impossible!” Lincoln Green pushed Manager Norda of Midsummer Trust away, shouting angrily, “I don’t believe it. Show me the agreement, or I will sue Midsummer Trust for embezzling others’ property!”
“Mr. Green, please calm down.” Manager Norda tried to dissuade him, but remained motionless.
“How can I calm down? If I can’t intervene in my wife’s will, who can?” The disparity was too great; Lincoln Green simply could not accept it.
How could Minnie be so heartless to him?
They were so much in love back then. How could Minnie do this to him!
“Sorry.” Manager Norda apologized again.
“I don’t want your apology. Where is your boss? I want to see your boss!” Lincoln Green felt that Midsummer Trust was a corrupt company. Otherwise, how could he not know about the other inheritance from Minnie all these years? Now that he finally understood, they told him he was not eligible for the inheritance.
“I’m sorry, our boss is in France. If you have any questions, you can ask me directly.” Manager Norda continued to maintain a courteous attitude.
“If I can’t intervene, then who can? That unfilial daughter of mine?” Lincoln Green roared in a low voice.
Manager Norda thought for a moment, “Are you referring to Miss Abigail Green?”
“What? Has she already received the Piers shares left by Minnie Swift!” This time it was Rose Taylor who spoke instead of Lincoln Green.
“Sorry, I can’t answer you.” Manager Norda replied earnestly.
“Then what about me? Can you answer me? I am, after all, Minnie’s husband! What about the Piers shares? And what about the dividends of these shares over the years?” Lincoln Green was not going to be deceived by the smiling tiger in front of him and continued to question.
“Oh, of course. According to Mrs. Swift’s arrangement, if you did not remarry before Miss Abigail Green turned eighteen, you would inherit the Piers shares together with Miss Green. However, if you remarried before Miss Abigail Green turned eighteen, the Piers shares would be managed by our company, and the dividends generated—except for a portion for Miss Abigail Green’s living expenses—would all be donated in Mrs. Swift’s name to orphanages in Gills City and across the country.”
At this point, Manager Norda took out a detailed list, “Of course, before this, according to Mrs. Swift’s arrangement, we have been funding the education of orphans in Gills City. Each year, the orphanage would send you a receipt.”
Lincoln Green was stunned. If he remarried before Abigail turned eighteen, the shares would be managed by Midsummer Trust, and except for a part for Abigail’s living expenses, the rest would be donated to orphanages in Gills City and across the country in Minnie’s name?
And over these years, Minnie had been donating the dividends from these shares to the orphanage they supported!
Taking the detailed list from Manager Norda’s hand, Lincoln Green instinctively looked at Rose Taylor beside him. This was similar to what she had shown him last time. So it was not her donating in Minnie’s place but Minnie’s own sharing dividends that were being donated.
However, Rose intercepted the receipts, claimed them as her own, and then lied to him that she donated them in Minnie’s place. So the twenty million embezzled by the company was not donated to an orphanage but taken by her and her daughter!
Rose Taylor could not believe that woman was still playing tricks even after death, cutting off their path completely!
Even more unexpected was that Manager Norda’s words exposed her face turning pale, extremely embarrassed, especially when facing Lincoln Green’s questioning gaze. She wanted to explain, “Honey…”
What do you think?
