Chapter 344: Chapter 344 What good thing have I done again? Tell me about it!
Abigail was surprised.
Previously, she had invited Aunt Claudia over, but as people get older, they become more cautious.
Abigail didn’t press the matter, but she didn’t expect Aunt Claudia to come over today on her own accord. Just as well, Abigail had some questions she wanted to ask her.
She had someone bring Aunt Claudia in while she went to greet Old Master Swift.
These days, Abigail had kept in contact with Aunt Claudia through phone calls and occasionally sent videos to show her the child.
As people age, living alone can be very lonely, especially in the city, where the apartments are filled with high-level white-collar workers. Abigail often worried about Aunt Claudia, who frequently comforted her and even sent videos of herself dancing in the square with the other neighborhood ladies. It made Abigail feel at ease. Today, she didn’t expect Uncle Claudia to come to Piers’ Mansion.
...
She still felt somewhat puzzled until she saw Aunt Claudia carrying a cake and following behind the housemaid with some anxiety. Abigail suddenly realized and felt a warm sensation in her heart.
Originally, she had scheduled a meeting with Midsummer Trust today, but the matter was resolved yesterday, and she had forgotten about the birthday.
She didn’t expect Aunt Claudia to still remember.
Although Abigail knew Aunt Claudia remembered Rose Taylor’s birthday, she was still delighted with a sense of being cherished.
“Abigail, am I being too abrupt by coming over?” Aunt Claudia glanced around. She considered herself worldly; back when she lived with the Swift family, the Swifts were also a century-old prestigious family with deep roots. But looking at Piers’ Mansion, it didn’t seem like a place for daily living but more like an emperor’s summer villa, grand and elegant.
“Not at all.” Abigail took the cake from her hand and, holding her hand, led her inside.

Before Aunt Claudia even entered the main house, the Old Master had received the news. “What, it’s Abigail’s birthday today? Why didn’t that girl say anything earlier?”
“Yes, Master. The guards saw Aunt Claudia carrying a cake, so it must be to celebrate the young mistress’s birthday.” Housekeeper Piers answered truthfully.
Upstairs, Brandon Piers also got the news.
“The chubby kid’s birthday is today?” Brandon said, checked Abigail’s profile, and looked at the calendar. It was indeed July 21st. He muttered to himself, “So today is her nineteenth birthday.”
“It seems so.” Pullan agreed.
Just then, Housekeeper Piers came up. “Second Young Master, the Old Master wants to see you.”
“Oh,” Brandon replied casually but didn’t move.
“Second Young Master…” Pullan reminded him in a low voice.
“Hmm.” Brandon snapped out of it and got up. Just as he entered the Old Master’s room, he heard a dissatisfied grunt. He couldn’t help but raise his eyebrow, “What now? Who has upset you again? Need me to vent your anger?”
“Look at the mess you’ve caused!”
Bang bang!
The Old Master knocked his cane a few times as he spoke.
Brandon glanced indifferently, his mind wandering to other matters, “What mess did I make this time? Do tell.”
“You… You’re killing me! So, what’s your plan for Abigail’s birthday?”
The Old Master couldn’t out-argue his grandson, so he decided to give up.
“I’m thinking about it,” Brandon replied, not expecting his grandfather to be concerned about this.
“Hey, you’re finally showing some sense,” the Old Master said with satisfaction. He stood up with the help of his cane. “Since you’re thinking about it, I won’t need to concern myself with it. I’ll go take a look outside.”
“Don’t scare people,” Brandon responded coolly.
The Old Master hummed and left the room to meet the guests in the courtyard.
In the morning, the old yard was very cool. Abigail had some snacks prepared in the kitchen so as not to disturb the Old Master. She directly sat with Aunt Claudia in a small courtyard, chatting.
Kelly was nearby, pushing Teddy along and playing. The three often teased Teddy, filling the place with laughter.
It was the first time Aunt Claudia saw the little one in person. Knowing the child was Abigail’s, she felt both guilty and delighted, frequently touching the baby’s hands and feet.
Teddy was not shy, staring at Aunt Claudia for a while before becoming familiar and giggling.
Seeing him made Aunt Claudia even more fond of him, “Abigail, he really looks like you when you were little, but much chubbier. You weighed seven pounds at birth, which wasn’t small but nothing compared to Teddy.”
“Aunt Claudia, can you tell me about her?” Hearing Aunt Claudia mention her original birth, Abigail asked quietly. She was curious and wanted to know the real time of Minnie Swift’s death.
She was also interested in knowing what kind of woman Minnie Swift was.
Having seen Minnie’s photos before and arranging the Piers’ stocks matter, Abigail became increasingly puzzled. Why would such a beautiful and wise woman choose Lincoln Green?
“Are you talking about Miss? Miss was quite the beauty in her youth but kept a low profile and was focused on pharmaceuticals. Therefore, she wasn’t as renowned as the other young lady at home and wasn’t as obedient. Later, the family wanted her to marry for alliance, but her stubborn nature refused, leading to a fallout, and she left Swallow City in a fit of anger…” Aunt Claudia, feeling lonely these years, was eager to share Minnie’s story with Abigail, so she quickly opened up.
Abigail didn’t expect Minnie Swift to be such a spirited woman, “What happened next?”
“Later, she lived a tough life in Gills City and met Mr. Green. When young, Mr. Green was handsome and had a good temper…” Aunt Claudia sighed lightly at this point.
Abigail understood. It was the classic story of a fallen heiress meeting a charming but poor young man, unknowingly composing a love story.
Sadly, love rarely concluded perfectly in real life.
“Back then, the young master was really good to the young lady, doting on her with all his heart. Though their family wasn’t wealthy, he was handsome and hardworking. Soon, they fell in love and started a family, starting a business together. But the Swift family got wind of it, and Old Master Swift was furious with the young lady, cutting all ties. Decades passed without any contact. Sigh… who would have thought he would change so much!” Aunt Claudia’s face was filled with sorrow as she spoke.
Abigail didn’t expect her biological mother to be so resolute. It was clear she had a fiery personality.
However, if she didn’t have such a personality, there wouldn’t have been the initial occurrences.
As for people changing, having interacted with Lincoln Green many times, Abigail didn’t think he had changed. He was originally a man without decisiveness and was macho. Perhaps he truly loved Minnie Swift back then, but now he genuinely liked Rose Taylor too.
She understood this better after seeing Minnie’s will at Midsummer Trust the previous day.
Minnie Swift was really a smart woman, even to the point she saw through Lincoln Green’s nature. That’s why she laid out a path for her daughter before she died.
Knowing he was a man with no decisiveness and poor judgment, maybe he won over millions when he was young with his appearance and passion.
Unfortunately, as time ground on and with Rose Taylor’s influence, he became worldly and vulgar, immersed in the business world for years with limited abilities, repeatedly crossing moral lines until becoming the man Aunt Claudia couldn’t understand.
But it was just human nature.
Minnie Swift saw this clearly, which was why she set such a rule for her inheritance.
Abigail saw it plainly. If Lincoln Green remained unmarried by Abigail Green’s eighteenth birthday, the Piers’ shares would be jointly owned by them as father and daughter. Otherwise, he wouldn’t even be entitled to the will.
This showed the mother’s stubbornness.
Thinking of this, Abigail couldn’t help but sigh lightly. Minnie Swift probably expected the worst but didn’t anticipate an even worse outcome.
People were indeed more foolish and greedy than she thought.
What do you think?
