Chapter 184: 181: Is Dog Bao Still Here?
Chapter 184: Chapter 181: Is Dog Bao Still Here?
“Miss Huo, Miss Huo… wake up, please wake up…”
She didn’t know how long it had been, but Huo Sining was sleeping so deeply that she vaguely heard someone calling her.
“Ah–”
Huo Sining couldn’t help but let out a sharp scream and suddenly woke up from her sleep.
Her nightmare was abruptly interrupted, and she quickly opened her eyes to see Auntie Li bending over her, looking down with a smile mixed with worry.
So it was all a dream, Huo Sining thought with relief, wondering to herself why she would have such a strange and absurd dream, something about Taoist monks and sharks; it was really inexplicable.
The look of bewilderment faded from Huo Sining’s eyes, and she took a deep breath of relief, only then did she feel a chill all over her body, having been startled into a cold sweat by that nightmare.
“You child, how did you fall asleep here? The floor is very cold, it’s good that your clothes are not wet, otherwise, sleeping like this can easily make you catch a cold!”
Seeing that Huo Sining hadn’t fully woken up, Auntie Li scolded her, “How can you fall asleep while bathing a dog?”
Dog? Huo Sining caught her breath, and suddenly remembered what happened before she fainted. She had been treating the puppy, but instead of achieving her goal, she ended up worse off, with the pup draining all her Spiritual Energy!
Thinking of Spiritual Energy, Huo Sining’s eyes widened in alarm, and without another thought, she quickly closed her eyes, calmed her mind, and recited the incantation.
Soon, the Azure Pearl emerged from her forehead, and as it spun, a faint aureole flickered; although it wasn’t very bright, it was clear that there were no other issues.
Realizing both the Azure Pearl and Spiritual Energy were still there, Huo Sining immediately sighed with relief. There wasn’t much Spiritual Energy left on the Azure Pearl, probably due to the excessive usage before, but Huo Sining wasn’t too worried about this since Spiritual Energy could regenerate. It wouldn’t take long to replenish it fully.
However, thinking of that bizarre scene before she fainted, Huo Sining was somewhat perplexed.
What exactly happened? Why did that pup suddenly swallow her Spiritual Energy so frantically, to the point where she couldn’t shake it off?
“Auntie Li, where is that puppy?”
Not seeing the dog in the bathroom, Huo Sining couldn’t help but ask.
“And speaking of that, when it heard me cooking in the kitchen, it kept circling around me. After I fed it two large bowls of rice, it finally settled down. Now it’s actually chasing after Jingba in the yard. It doesn’t look sick at all, just plainly starving!” Auntie Li replied, laughing as she picked up things around the place.
Huo Sining was stunned upon hearing this.
The puppy, either from running tired or hearing Huo Sining’s voice, quickly rushed in from outside the yard, dashed up the stairs, panted its way into the bathroom, and upon seeing Huo Sining awake, it became incredibly excited. It barked at Huo Sining twice, wagging its tail, and stretched out its tongue trying to lick her.
Auntie Li’s words hadn’t been much concern to Huo Sining before, but this moment, seeing the puppy, she was truly taken aback.
This afternoon, when she rescued the puppy from under the wheel, its hair was yellow and brittle like straw, not a bit glossy, and it was constantly shedding.
But how long has it been since then? The dog is now completely black all over, and its fur looks shiny and healthy.
Huo Sining reached out and touched it a few times, finding the dog’s fur to be very soft and smooth.
The little guy wagged its tail, stared at her with its wet eyes, looking very spirited, and showed no sign of any illness.
A flicker of surprise crossed Huo Sining’s eyes, but she had a vague speculation in her heart – could it be that those Spiritual Energies had, fortunately for the puppy, turned into a blessing in disguise?
Since the dog had changed so much in just a little while, Huo Sining also felt somewhat guilty, afraid that Huang Chengyi might notice something amiss. Carrying the dog down the stairs, she saw Master Huang sitting in the living room, gave a few embarrassed chuckles, and awkwardly explained,
“Who would have thought that after a bath, this puppy would look totally different? Even its fur color is much prettier. It must have been mistreated by its previous owner.”
Huang Chengyi didn’t think much about it. Hearing Huo Sining’s words, he did not suspect anything and laughed,
“That’s not surprising. You can buy a whole litter for three to five hundred Yuan at the Dog Market. The owner certainly didn’t care much. Try switching to a pure-bred Tibetan Mastiff; they definitely wouldn’t dare to neglect it like that. You’re pretty lucky, though; even though this dog’s pedigree isn’t pure, it looks like its appearance and temperament are still quite good. A three-month-old dog with this level of alertness and intelligence – well cared for, it might not be worse than a pure-bred Tibetan Mastiff.”
As if knowing it was being talked about, the puppy barked twice at Master Huang after hearing his words, as if in full agreement, proudly lifting its chin, and staring at Huo Sining with its eyes full of imposing authority.
Huo Sining was surprised and looked over at the dog, “This dog is only three months old? Uncle, how did you know? I thought it was at least four or five months.”
Indeed, the puppy in front of her was thin, but in appearance, it seemed larger than the average small breed dog – at first glance, one could really think the dog was five or six months old.
“Look at the teeth, there are differences between the teeth of a puppy and those of an adult dog,” Master Huang said with a smile. “Golden Retrievers, though not as brave and majestic as Tibetan Mastiffs, aren’t small either. This dog has the genes of a Golden Retriever and a Tibetan Mastiff, so it’s likely that it will grow into a large breed dog too. It’s not strange for it to be this size at three months.”
Upon hearing this, Huo Sining was quite pleased. She preferred large dogs with their imposing presence, which were most useful for intimidating others. With such a large dog in the yard in the future, it could at least deter thieves.
Seeing the puppy staring at her with its naive and innocent eyes, Huo Sining couldn’t help but burst out laughing, “Looking at your pitch-black self, let’s just call you Heitan.”
The puppy seemed to understand and started circling around Huo Sining’s feet in a playful manner, appearing quite delighted.
Heitan’s circling made Huo Sining dizzy. She bent down and picked up the little fellow. As she did, her right hand unconsciously wrapped around the puppy’s belly, and suddenly she had a hunch.
She had treated the puppy before, and she wondered whether that Azure Pearl had come out or not.
With this thought, Huo Sining instinctively began to channel the Spiritual Energy carefully into the puppy’s belly. Before long, the Spiritual Energy passed through the puppy’s abdomen to the location of the Azure Pearl.
This exploration gave Huo Sining quite a shock. After waking up from her coma and seeing the tremendous change in the puppy, she’d naturally assumed that she had successfully used her Spiritual Energy to help the puppy get rid of the Azure Pearl in its belly, but now she discovered that things were not as she had thought.
In the puppy’s stomach, the foreign object that should have disappeared was still there, firmly attached to the blood vessels in the puppy’s belly.
“How can this be?” Huo Sining was shocked. The puppy had already recovered its spirit, right? Even the fur had become glossy and soft and the eyes clear. So, why was the Azure Pearl still there?
What do you think?
