Chapter 37 - 37 Sharing a Bed
Chapter 37: Chapter 37 Sharing a Bed
Murong Jiu thought that Jun Yuyan, after finishing his bath, would quickly return to his quarters.
Unexpectedly, after sitting by the window and reading for a while, he stood up and said, “It’s getting late, time to rest.”
At that moment, Murong Jiu still thought he was preparing to leave and quickly stood up to see him out.
Who knew that Jun Yuyan would actually turn and walk towards her bed? Before she could react, the tall figure had already lain down, and the soft bedding caved in.
She widened her eyes.
The previous few times, Jun Yuyan had only sat in her room for a while, leaving after sitting for a little over an hour. So why was he planning to sleep here tonight?
...
“Prince…”
She asked quietly.
“There’s a leak in my roof,” he found an excuse and only after saying it did he realize how clumsy the excuse was. @@novelbin@@
But Murong Jiu didn’t think much of it, “I see, it has been raining for so long, I reckon many households have leaky roofs.”
“Hmm,” he made a sound, “after the rain stops, I’ll have Steward Lin call the craftsmen.”
Although it had rained for seven or eight days, the temperature wasn’t cold. Murong Jiu wore only a thin underdress, and his hand seemed to have touched her slender waist through the clothing, involuntarily bringing back memories of that night.
He also smelled the faint scent on Murong Jiu’s body, as if it was emanating from her skin.
Lying in bed, he had noticed the scent, but only when he was close to her did the fragrance become more vivid.
At this moment, he had full certainty in his heart, convinced that Murong Jiu was the woman who had been with him that night.
Whether it was the sometimes-there, sometimes-not scent, or the feel of her waist, both stimulated his memories to resurface.
Murong Jiu lay beside him, with each person covered in their own blanket; the atmosphere was quiet. Murong Jiu intentionally breathed softly, afraid of disturbing his sleep.
This was the first time she had shared a bed with a man.
The incident over a month ago didn’t count; she was so tormented by the man that she hadn’t fallen asleep at all.
Feeling inexplicably nervous, she closed her eyes, unable to fall asleep.
Jun Yuyan didn’t speak either; he feared that his low and hoarse voice might offend Murong Jiu, making her feel violated.
So they lay on the bed, neither making a single move.
Perhaps it was because of the drowsiness that came with pregnancy, compounded by the fatigue of the day, that Murong Jiu gradually felt sleepy and soon her breathing became even.
She slept soundly until dawn.
This was the most comfortable sleep she’d had since her rebirth; no nightmares, no startling awakenings, the first time awakening naturally.
“Miss, you’re awake!”
“When did the Prince leave?
” She inquired.
“He left as soon as it was light. A guard came by then; it seemed like there was some urgent matter, the Prince left in a hurry.”
She couldn’t help asking, “Did the Prince leave the estate? Has he not returned yet?”
“Yes, Miss. What would you like for breakfast? The new chef has prepared several different morning meals today.”
Murong Jiu didn’t have much of an appetite; she was somewhat worried about Jun Yuyan. What could have happened that made him leave in such a rush?
She felt like she was forgetting something important.
“You should eat a bit, Miss; you’ve lost weight these past few days. Also, Miss, you shouldn’t go out like you usually do today. I heard that a lot of refugees poured in when they opened the city gates this morning, and it’s very chaotic.”
Chun Tao’s words made Murong Jiu suddenly remember something crucial in the blink of an eye.
Her face turned pale, and she hurriedly said, “Chun Tao, quickly call in the guards; I need to send a message to the Prince!”
What do you think?
