Chapter 189 Kakao tastes good?
Meanwhile, the Orcupine orc had the opposite transformation. He became a lot thinner, with his quills becoming smaller.
He looked a lot closer to a human than an Orc.
But despite his smaller stature, Michael could tell that it came with a great boost in speed and control! Those quills reminded Michael of surgical-level needles, with their penetrating power becoming a lot more devastating despite looking so thin.
ChatJK3…what am I seeing?
His personal AI assistant sent out a beam of Light mana toward the two Orcs. Those mana then interacted with the Light mana inside the Orcs' bodies, which bounced back towards Michael.
Those Light mana contained all the necessary information needed to fully examine the Orcs' physiology.

—— Sugar Rush
——— This skill allows the user to transform the energy he consumes from Kakao beans into pure Earth power. Their overall strength in the Earth element will temporarily increase one level upwards.
The Orcs' difficulty level was only four stars when Michael first met them, but with the new knowledge of their 'enhanced' state, ChatJK3 then rated them an entire star higher.
Michael could only marvel at the new power he saw from the Orcs. It was hard to believe that they gained this power only from consuming a single piece of Kakao bean.
"This is what helped us survive all these times, sir human. The gift of the Goddess gives us the power to triumph over any adversity," the Orcanine said, slapping his newly enlarged body. It created a much louder SMACK that reverberated throughout the forest.
"We would be ungrateful if we did not appreciate Kakao trees. Our rituals allow us to protect our Sacred Ground as well as revere the Earth Goddess," the Orcupine said, strumming his new quills. It now sounded like percussion chimes that rang out pleasantly to everyone's ears.
Michael observed them for a few seconds before finally asking them a lot of questions back to back.
"How long does it last?"
"It does not last long. In human terms, then it would only last a quarter of candlelight," the Orcanine answered.
In other words, their transformation only lasted about 10 minutes. Although it might seem a little short, it was more than enough in a fight.
"Does it have any limitations? Can you eat Kakao beans consecutively? Can you eat two Kakao beans at the same time?"
Michael's eyes were full of curiosity, and it was even more evident with his questions.
"We can eat it many times," the Orcupine said. "But, it would not affect our transformation in any way. It wouldn't increase our strength nor will it increase our time."
"So does that mean that theoretically, you could always be in your enhanced state if you just ate Kakao beans all the time?"
The two Orcs awkwardly nodded their heads.
"So then why don't you?" Michael asked them.
They could certainly make their enhanced state become 'permanent' if they wanted to. After all, they must have an almost unlimited amount of Kakao beans at their disposal, given that they were so generous in their gifts to the Reborn company.@@novelbin@@
"We dislike its taste," the Orcanine confessed. "If there is no need for it, then we would rather not eat it at all, even if we are starving."
The Orcupine agreed. "We believe that this is a test from the Earth Goddess. She made the Kakao beans hard to consume so that we wouldn't get caught up in the power it gave us."
Michael went silent for a few seconds, just looking at the Orcs and the Kakao beans.
"You hate it because it's bitter…well then, why don't you try this?"
He reached down deep into his shadows and took out a single bar of chocolate from the bakery. It was still in its packaging wrapper, so the Orcs didn't recognize it at first.
But as Michael unraveled the paper, the faint but familiar scent of Kakao beans wafted over their senses. It confused them. That 'thing' looked nothing like the Kakao beans they had known their whole life, yet they knew instinctively that it contained a lot of Kakao beans.
"Sir human…why does that smell like our Sacred fruit?"
"That's because it is," Michael replied. "Try it out."
He broke off the bar evenly and gave it to the Orcs, who eyed it with confused looks.
They felt it with their hands and smelled it with their nose. It was clear that the influence of the Earth Goddess was strong, evidence that it was indeed as Michael said it was.
They took a bite, with their bodies already clenched as they anticipated the bitterness of the Kakao beans.
But as the chocolate melted in their mouths, a new sensation filled their senses.
"!!!!"
It was sweet. It was pleasant. It was something that they wouldn't mind eating for their whole lives.
The original taste of the Kakao beans was still there, but the bitterness was almost gone. Somehow, chocolate was able to turn that bitterness into something extremely satisfying for the Orcs.
"What is this?!"
"This is delicious!"
The Orcs couldn't help themselves as they devoured the chocolate in a matter of a few seconds.
As people who had been so accustomed to the bitterness of the Kakao beans, this was a very welcome change of taste. It felt like they had finally found the treasure of the Earth Goddess hidden inside the chocolate.
It wasn't supposed to be bitter, it was supposed to be sweet all this time!
Michael was glad that they were enjoying their snack. Seeing them react so positively to the chocolate meant that there was a chance that Michael could leverage chocolate into something that would push a change into the two Orc tribes.
He hoped that chocolate could unite the two.
Of course, Michael wasn't doing this without any ulterior motives.
If he was going to be honest with himself, then he would admit that he wanted to assimilate their Sugar Rush skill for his own.
What do you think?
