Chapter 140 Paranormal activity
Right before their eyes, the entire town had gone dark. Not a single light was there.
"Where is everyone?" Sophia wondered as all three of them felt everyone in the city had vanished.
"Let's go back to the castle first."
As the two girls followed Alex back into the castle, he quickly closed the balcony door before running downstairs.
"Alex, why are you running?" Mary asked as they both caught up to him.
"Something is off. You guys didn't notice all of their windows are shut?"
Both girls thought back to what they had seen earlier and immediately joined Alex in closing all of the windows.
After frantically closing every single one in the hallway, they were beyond exhausted as they sat back in the living room.
"Alex, you know something, right?"
Sophia asked, feeling something was seriously off after remembering he suggested leaving earlier.
"I... I just feel like the whole city was weird when Mom used that scroll instead of the bank teleporter."
Alex answered, quickly making up an excuse on the spot as he didn't want to reveal about Sarah.
"What should we do now?" Mary nervously asked, her face looking a little scared by the darkness.
"We can't leave the castle now... Might as well just go to sleep then."
As soon as Alex got up from the sofa, the other two quickly followed him to the hallway.
"You two just go to bed and go to sleep. Everything is going to be fine tomorrow morning."
Both of them nodded, allowing him to head towards his bedroom before stopping at the door.
"Why are you two following me? Just go back to your room and go to sleep."
"I-I'm scared. The castle is so dark." Mary whispered as she tightly held onto Sophia's arm.
"Sophia?"
"Ahem, Mary, come with me."
Sophia quickly dragged Mary towards her room, finally allowing Alex to enter his room alone.
"What's with all the weird things today?" Alex wondered as he lay down on the bed.
Thinking back, the first weird thing was the vehicle parked right outside the house.
The second weird thing was having Katherine's teacher come to visit, despite Katherine repeatedly implying her teacher had been missing for a long time now.
From Professor's last message, it was clear they were only here as a note for Ava's birthday.
Combined with the fact that all the weird things happened when they arrived at the castle, his suspicion was directed at the Professor.
"If only Meiya or Luqing were here... Why does it have to be today that they have stuff to do?"
With all of the coincidences in a single day, it was seemingly almost a full-blown plan to have them be at the castle with no supervision.
"Fuck it, I need to sleep. I still need to head back tomorrow to study for the Final."
After pulling the blanket back up, Alex closed his eyes and tried to fall asleep.
Just as he was about to be successful, the window suddenly opened, with a cold, strong wind flowing across the room.
"What the fuck?"
Alex quickly got out of bed, closing the window before laying back down on the bed.
However, the surprise made it hard for him to fall asleep again, as he kept thinking the window was going to pop open again.
With the clock tick echoing in the room, his mind slowly started getting drowsy until another noise interrupted him.
But this time, it was coming from the door.
"Alex... You asleep?"
Hearing Sophia's voice, he didn't hesitate to walk over to the door before taking a look through the peephole. Explore more stories with My Virtual Library Empire
After checking it was Sophia and Mary, he quickly opened the door before letting them in.
"What's wrong? Why do your faces look so scared?" Alex curiously asked as he locked the door.
"T-The window just popped open out of nowhere!" Mary explained as she tried to describe it with her hand.
"And there was constant footstep sound out in the hallway. I-I couldn't handle it anymore."
Seeing even Sophia looked a little creeped out by it, Alex quickly realized something was a little off.
"What footstep sounds? I didn't hear it at all in my room... What kind of footstep was it?"
"It was super loud, almost like a dog running down the hall or something," Sophia answered.
"Huh... Wait, stand still right there."
Both of them looked confused, synchronously tilting their head slightly towards him.
"Are you two really Sophia and Mary?" Alex questioned as he quickly raised a wind barrier between him and the two of them.
"What do you mean? Of course we're Sophia and Mary. Who else can we be?" Sophia asked back.
"Really? Then tell me what happened on Sophia's birthday last month."
As soon as Alex asked the question, the two of them started to merge before they vanished right in front of him.
"Shit. What the fuck?"
Alex didn't lower his barrier a single bit, doubling down as he made it cover all four sides like a bubble.
"Come out here! I know you're still in this room... I'm not afraid of some ghost."
Despite yelling it out loud, a sweat fell from his forehead as his mana started to feel a little restrained.
"Fine, you want to fight me? I will lower the barrier if you just reappear before me."
After seeing no response, Alex dropped his barrier as the wind vanished around him.
Much to his surprise, nothing happened. Almost as if the thing was never there at all.
"God damn it. I hate this." Alex murmured as he started to feel a little creeped out by the dark atmosphere.
For the first time, he couldn't deny it to himself as he started to feel a little creeped out by all that had happened.
Even as he locked the door and laid back down on the bed, he was too nervous to fall asleep.
"Come on, Alex, stop scaring yourself. Ghost literally doesn't exist... But this is a fantasy world."
After scaring himself even more, he quickly kicked that thought out of his mind before realizing something.
"Shit, is Sophia and Mary okay?"
Without wasting any more time, he rushed out of bed before opening the door.
As he walks down the hall, he suddenly sees a giant shadow in front of the curtain.
"Calm down, Alex, there's nothing behind the window. Just ignore it and keep walking."
After arriving at the door to Sophia's room, he gently knocked on the door.
"Sophia, Mary, are you two asleep?"
A few seconds later, he was surprised to see Sophia and Mary both standing in front of him, only wearing a bra and panties.
"Hm? What's wrong?" Sophia curiously asked.
"Did anything weird happen in your guy's room?" Alex asked as he resisted the urge to look down.
"Weird? We didn't have anything happening in our room. We just went to sleep until you knocked on our door."
"Okay. Never mind. Just go back to sleep."
Just as Alex turned around, he suddenly felt a hand pulling him back.
"Alex... If you're scared, you can sleep with us." Mary quietly whispered, her voice sounding barely awake.
"I'm fine. Don't worry about me——"
"Just come over."
Sophia forcefully dragged Alex inside, not giving him any option as she locked the door.
"I'm your older sister. If you're scared, you can always rely on me." Sophia reassured as she gently patted him on the back.
"I'm not——"
"Brother is lying," Mary murmured, seeing right through Alex's attempt to hide the fact.
"Whatever. You guys aren't going to believe what I saw in my room anyway."
"What do you mean you saw something? Also, let's get the blanket first. It's getting kind of cold."
As both Sophia and Mary quickly ran inside the blanket, Alex hesitated as he stood on the bedside.
"Alex, what are you waiting for?" Sophia curiously asked, noticing him just idling there.
"I... I shouldn't be with you guys. I'll just head back——"
"Come on, just get in the bed. We don't mind you sleeping with us."
As Sophia and Mary both dragged him toward the bed, he finally stopped trying to keep himself from getting inside the warm blanket.
"It's much warmer, right?" Sophia asked as they forced him to sleep in between them.
"Yeah... But why are you two not wearing your clothes?" Alex curiously asked the question inside his mind.
Within seconds, he could see their face blushing through the moonlight before Sophia answered back.
"The clothes aren't really that comfortable... It keeps on getting in the way when I sleep on the side."
"Yeah. And it feels kind of hot underneath this warm blanket... Besides, you're our brother..."@@novelbin@@
Mary added as she shyly looked to the side. Both girls realized how weird they looked to sleep in their undergarments next to their brother.
"Ahem, back to what you said earlier. What did you see in your bedroom?" Sophia curiously asked.
What do you think?
