Chapter 986: Chapter 980: What Kind of Character Does One Have Here? _1

Qin Xue noticed that Aunt Five of the Qin family adamantly refused to accept her money. She decided to prepare some dishes for her sister to deliver to Aunt Five’s family. She only hoped that they wouldn’t be too surprised when the time came.

Qin Xue watched the villagers laughing and chatting in the distance. She was curious about their fishing tactics, particularly how they cast their nets in the river. After all, they were in a village, not on the open sea. She presumed it would be difficult for them to catch large fish. She figured there wouldn’t be many large fish, especially not during the change of years. This seemed consistent with the old adage about “the one that got away.”

“Eh, when did the eldest daughter of the Qin family come?” Someone spotted Qin Xue and her group and called out to her.

“Aunt Village Chief, my sister and her family arrived last night. Since the New Year’s fishing has started, we thought we’d come out and see our village’s big harvest this year.” Qin Jiale spotted her sister’s bewildered expression and took the initiative to reply. Jiale was worried that her sister wouldn’t know who those people were or how to respond to them. To avoid any unpleasant remarks about her sister’s lack of manners, Jiale decided to answer for her.

It is fair to say that Qin Jiale had a deep understanding of Qin Xue’s different expressions, therefore she always knew how to respond on behalf of her sister without causing her any embarrassment.

“Hello, Aunt Village Chief,” Qin Xue greeted the woman following her sister’s example.

“Oh, so you brought your children back. Where is your husband?” The village chief’s wife addressed Qin Xue while observing the child in her arms.

“He’s here, but he’s at home,” Qin Xue smiled.

“That’s good, I was worried that you returned to the village alone with your child. Are these twins?” The village chief’s wife noticed another child in Qin Jiale’s arms.

“Yes,” Qin Xue replied, nodding her head.

“What a blessing! Your mother gave birth to twins, and now you have too.” The village chief’s wife expressed her amazement at the rarity of two generations of twins within the same family.

“Thanks for your kind words, Aunt Village Chief.” Qin Xue was uncertain on how to respond to the praise regarding her twins. The genetics behind twins could not be easily explained, especially not to the village chief’s wife.

“Who’s this?” The village chief’s wife then turned her curiosity towards Fang Xiu, who was standing off to the side.

“She is a distant relative visiting us for New Year’s, she came to see my parents,” Qin Xue answered without giving too much detail. In this way, it was unclear whether Fang Xiu was related to her or her husband Chu Molin. Qin Xue didn’t specify because her mother hadn’t had any relatives around in many years. If she were to say Fang Xiu was her relative, more questions would arise about why they had not visited before. That whole explanation could take half a day, let alone multiple times. Therefore, her ambiguous answer was considerably more efficient.

“I see, she’s quite charming. She must be seven or eight months pregnant, right?” The village chief’s wife noted Fang Xiu’s round belly.

“Yes, Aunt Village Chief, hello. My name is Fang Xiu, and I’m delighted to be here to experience the customs and cultures of your village.” Fang Xiu responded when she heard the village chief’s wife addressing her. Qin Xue translated for her.

“You’re always welcome to visit,” the village chief’s wife smiled softly at Fang Xiu’s gentle words.

“Thank you.” Fang Xiu nodded, and Qin Xue translated her words for the village chief’s wife.

“Well, I’ll let you get on with your activities. I’m needed over there to oversee the division of the caught fish and make sure there’s no misappropriation,” said the village chief’s wife, preparing to leave.

“Alright, please go ahead,” Qin Xue responded, nodding politely. Afterward, they followed Jingtao, who was eager to see the caught fish, to the fishing site.

However, the moment they arrived, someone criticized them, leaving Qin Xue perplexed. She wondered about her reputation in the village.
