Chapter 332: Chapter 332 Entertainer_1
Because he seldom visited the military base, the guard at the gate, a newcomer, didn’t recognize Lu Hongxuan. He had to register and pass through a series of checks before he was allowed into the base.
He had been to Lu Zhendong’s office before and knew where it was.
“Please announce my arrival,” Lu Hongxuan said to the guard outside.
“Please wait a moment.” As Lu Zhendong’s guard, who frequented the Lu family household, he recognized Lu Hongxuan.
The guard went in to announce his arrival.
Lu Zhendong was slightly surprised at Lu Hongxuan’s visit.
He was relatively indifferent to his youngest son, choosing to focus his attention on Lin Xiao.
Why had he come to the base today?
To negotiate on someone’s behalf?
To ask him to come home?
“Come in.”
Lu Hongxuan entered the office, looking at Lu Zhendong who was busy at his desk.
“What do you need? Make it quick.” Lu Zhendong’s tone was commanding.
He had complicated feelings towards this unexpected son of his.
Lu Hongxuan had long since become accustomed to Lu Zhendong’s treatment of him.
“Dad, Jingyi hasn’t been home for several days and I’m very worried about her. I came to the base to ask about her whereabouts,” he said.
Because Lu Jingyi had been there as Lu Hongxuan grew up, they shared a close sibling bond. The fact that she had been absent for several days, and that she had missed his college entrance exams — something she had promised him she’d be there for — was concerning.
Lu Zhendong put down his pen, finally looking up at his youngest son, “Your sister is dealing with something. If you don’t have anything else, you should head home early.”
He immediately resumed his work.
Lu Hongxuan knew that his father was busy and didn’t want to see him.
He remembered his mother telling him about his older brother in the military.
He had been away for the most part of the year, and he had never met him.
“Dad, where is my brother? Mom told me that he had been transferred to the Kyoto military region, but he hasn’t been home once. I would like to meet him while I’m here,” he said.
Lu Zhendong dismissed the idea, “He’s on a mission and is very busy. Unlike you and your mother, he doesn’t have the luxury to idle around at home all day.”
Anyone with a weaker resilience would have found it hard to bear this obvious disparity in treatment.
However, Lu Hongxuan was used to it.
“Dad, I took the college entrance exams a few days ago. I will get into Kyoto University,” he said.
Lu Zhendong finally glanced sharply at Lu Hongxuan, “You?” His tone was dripping with skepticism.
Lu Hongxuan’s expression finally fell, revealing a hint of gloom and disappointment.
“I will get admitted, I will prove it to you,” he asserted.
How could Lu Zhendong not know that Lin Xiao wanted Lu Hongxuan to join the military, and make use of his connections? But was Lu Hongxuan cut out for it?
Being a soldier was not merely lip service. It meant risking one’s life. Each scar a soldier bore was a story, possibly involving a brush with death.
“I don’t need any proof from you. If there’s nothing else, you should go home early,” said Lu Zhendong, dismissively.
Thinking about the manipulative measures his mother had taken to give birth to Lu Hongxuan was enough to make him dislike his youngest son.
Swallowing down his bitterness, Lu Hongxuan said, “Alright, dad, I’ll go now. Try to make some time to come home.”
He wasn’t his dad’s favorite son or daughter.
How could he possibly get his father to like him?
No matter what he did, his father would never be fond of him.
He had once asked his mother why his father didn’t like him. Other fathers put their sons on their shoulders, but his father had never done that. No, his father had never even held him. Every time he saw his father affectionately holding his sister, he could only envy her.
What do you think?
