Chapter 891 A Commission for Amatsukami
"The price they are demanding to deal with this issue is exorbitant. They want 300 million Ryo… That’s 300 million Ryo… can you imagine it? Isn't such a price absurd?" Kuroto voiced his concerns with a hint of disbelief while carefully observing the reactions of those present in the Hokage office.
Inwardly, though, he thought, ‘300 million Ryo shouldn’t be too much for this kind of mission…’
"300 million Ryo?" muttered Elder Hiruzen with a furrowed brow, but his expression soon softened as he processed various other thoughts concerning the matter.
Meanwhile, Elder Koharu, Jiraiya, Tsunade-hime, as well as the others in the office, including Kakashi and Asuma, displayed a range of thoughtful and surprised expressions, leading to a silence to fall in the office.
Kuroto couldn't quite tell if the silence was the result of everyone feeling shocked by the hefty price or by the fact that Amatsukami was willing to intervene in Konoha's internal affairs and halt the Uchiha Clan's Coup d'état plan, or whether they were reluctant to depend on the Amatsukami Organization and let them intervene in Konohagakure’s internal matter.
As a Shinobi organization, Konohagakure had always accepted various employment missions from all over the Land of Fire and neighbouring countries.
Now, having to rely on other Shinobi Organizations such as the Amatsukami Organization was, in some way, admitting to their weakness. Yet, there were situations where they had no other choice, particularly when facing the formidable threat of Akatsuki.
But the matter of the Akatsuki Organization is something else… It’s an international matter that involves all Great Shinobi Villages and concerns the safety of the Shinobi World as a whole… Uchiha’s Coup, on the other hand, is an internal matter that seems to have grown in a way not desired by the village’s leadership and out of their control.
And unfortunately enough, they really have no way of solving this problem on their own without having to suffer serious consequences.
In fact, the village leadership isn’t even certain whether they will be able to solve the upcoming Coup d’état on their own. After all, individuals like Uchiha Shisui, Uchiha Fugaku, and Uchiha Shinichi will be spearheading the Coup… and those are not ordinary shinobi that can be dealt with easily. Thus, they do understand that they need all the resources that they can come up with to solve the upcoming crisis as quickly and swiftly as possible, while avoiding large-scale damage and consequences; otherwise, the Coup might spell an end for Konohagakure.
And despite not originally planning to seek Amatsukami's assistance with the Uchiha Clan's Coup, now that the offer was on the table, the senior members of the Hokage faction had to consider it seriously.
The elders of the advisory board, though aware of the necessity of Amatsukami's help, were still a bit reluctant to take the lead and admit it, since admitting such a thing signaled Konoha's vulnerability, and none of them wanted to be the one to say that Konohagakure is vulnerable and needs external assistance to solve internal crisis.
Of course, this hesitation was only limited to the elders, not the younger generation of shinobi like Kakashi and Asuma, thus, it was Kakashi, the Hokage's Hand, who spoke up on the matter.
Kakashi chuckled awkwardly, drawing everyone’s attention to him, then addressing Kuroto, he explained, "Kuroto, as you may already know, we've collaborated with the Amatsukami Organization on various matters previously, particularly when dealing with the threat of the Akatsuki Organization. Given our past instances of cooperation, it might not be a bad idea to entrust them with this matter as well."
Since Kakashi broke the ice, the others in the room nodded in agreement, expressing their support for Kakashi's suggestion. "Yes… It's not a bad decision," they concurred.
Elder Koharu spoke, "Handing this matter over to Amatsukami could lead to a swift resolution."
Jiraiya added, "And with the least amount of casualties. What do you think, Sensei?"
Elder Hiruzen nodded thoughtfully, "Indeed… entrusting the Uchiha Clan's issue to Amatsukami might be the solution to our worries."
Hearing Kakashi's words and the subsequent agreement from several senior members of the Hokage faction, both Yui and Kuroto were taken aback by the unanimous consensus.
As Yui observed the smooth acceptance of Kuroto's outsourcing plan, she couldn't help but be surprised by the lack of objections. She wondered why no one raised concerns or voiced opposing views, which left her puzzled and curious about the underlying reasons.
Kuroto, too, was taken aback by the unanimous agreement and the eagerness of others to convince him to accept Amatsukami's involvement. He couldn't help but wonder if they were worried that Amatsukami might side with the Uchiha Clan if their offer was rejected. Given Amatsukami's mercenary nature, it was plausible that they might have approached the Uchiha Clan as well, making the first contract even more crucial.
The realization that rejecting Amatsukami could result in losing their services pushed the Hokage faction to swiftly agree to their involvement.
Kuroto was secretly delighted because once the deal was done, he would have enough funds to repair Ancor Vantian, which had been in dire need of maintenance for a while.
Despite not being low on funds for the past few months, Kuroto had been cautious about lavishly spending on the repairs of Ancor Vantian. His ongoing research and the creation of clones, as well as the development of the ‘Type II Biological Armor,' required substantial funding. Knowing that the possibility of receiving 300 million Ryo was strong, he could finally focus on the repair of Ancor Vantian, which had been delayed for some time.
Ancor Vantian's design necessitated its flight among the clouds, where the humidity was extremely high. The outer barrier served as protection against the water vapor that would otherwise erode the air fortress's overall structure. The urgency of addressing this issue became clear, as leaving it unattended would lead to significant problems sooner or later.
As the discussions continued, Elder Hiruzen's voice took on a deep tone as he raised a crucial concern: “The three pairs of Mangekyō Sharingan must not be handed over to others, and this needed to be made clear to the Amatsukami Organization.”
The other elders nodded in agreement, acknowledging the grave importance of retaining possession of those powerful pair of Uchiha Dōjutsu.
Tsunade-hime, with a doubtful expression, inquired, "Sensei… do you think Amatsukami is after the three pairs of Mangekyō Sharingan?"
Elder Hiruzen nodded thoughtfully, "This possibility cannot be ruled out."
Kakashi, possessing the deepest understanding of the power of the Mangekyō Sharingan, swiftly acknowledged the potential threat posed by Amatsukami acquiring more of these potent ocular abilities. "Yes," he agreed, "they already have two Mangekyō Sharingan users on their side. If they were allowed to obtain three more, they would become overwhelmingly strong. Not that they aren't already formidable with Yama, Fujin, both Homusubi, Dojin, and Suijin among their ranks, but adding three more Homusubi, with each being a user of the Mangekyō Sharingan, is a concern."
After a brief pause, Kakashi turned his attention to Kuroto with a serious expression. "Kuroto, if Amatsukami contacts you again, please notify us immediately!"
Kuroto readily agreed, "Okay!"
When it comes to the pair of Mangekyō Sharingan, Kuroto is only contemplating whether to take Fugaku's. Shisui and Shinichi's Mangekyō Sharingan obviously wouldn't be touched.
The members of the Hokage faction are clearly unaware of Kuroto's thoughts.
