Chapter 80 - 80 80 Lord Mu please save my elder brother
Chapter 80: Chapter 80 Lord Mu, please save my elder brother… Chapter 80: Chapter 80 Lord Mu, please save my elder brother… A Grain Transport Officer approached Zhan Beicang with a grave expression.
“General Zhan, the food supplies we were transporting have been stolen by refugees!”
“What did you say!” Zhan Beicang, upon hearing the Grain Transport Officer’s words, punched the city wall!
Last month, a locust plague hit the border areas of Nanjin, and all the food was devoured by locusts, leading to a large number of refugees.
The government was powerless to manage these refugees, who, driven by hunger, resorted to extreme measures to survive, and this time even robbed the official grain supplies!
“General Zhan, we only have enough food to last… one more day!” The Grain Transport Officer whispered hesitantly.
Zhan Beicang paced for a moment, then calmed down and said: “First, report to the court and replenish the supplies as soon as possible. This time, assign five times the usual guards for the transport. Additionally, borrow grain from Lianbian City. If Fengyu Pass cannot be held, Lianbian City or even the entire Nanjin might be in peril!”
“Yes, my lord!”
Zhan Lan, beneath the city wall, approached when she saw the Grain Transport Officer and immediately eavesdropped on their conversation.
Zhan Beicang lowered his voice and said, “Keep the morale steady, be measured in your actions!”
“Yes!” The Grain Transport Officer pretended as if nothing had happened and left through the back door.
Zhan Lan furrowed her brows; things were unfolding just as she had predicted—there was indeed a problem with the grain supply.
But was it really caused by the refugees looting?
Her intuition told her that might not entirely be the case.
Lianbian City had grain; she had already arranged everything before departing. With Shen Shan and Qi Ying there, she was not worried about the grain.
What worried her was the potential casualties of the Zhan Family Army in this battle.
For a worthless emperor, it certainly wasn’t worth losing so many of the Zhan Family Army lives, but what if it was for the citizens of Nanjin?
Zhan Lan’s hands pressed on the city wall, her fingers fiercely gripping, her heart surged, and she had already found the answer…
After a day’s rest, the Western Rong army once again launched an attack on Fengyu Pass!
This time, they came out in full force, intent on completely annihilating the Zhan Family Army!
The tense, oppressive atmosphere descended like dark clouds, and half an hour later, the situation on the battlefield changed.
The sound of war drums and horns echoed through the land as two detachments of Western Rong Cavalry conducted a pincer attack and charged.
“Kill the junior general! Kill him!” Zhan Lan heard the Main General of the Western Rong army, Asi Han, shouting.
In the fierce battle, Zhan Lan saw Zhan Hui’s troops surrounded by the Western Rong Cavalry; she quickly ran inside the turret, tied a package around her waist, mounted her horse, and charged forward with the wind howling in her ears!
Zhan Beicang also noticed the situation with Zhan Hui; he too was too busy to look elsewhere and shouted at the Deputy General next to him, “Go, rescue them!”
“Yes, General!” The Deputy General Lu Youjun responded enthusiastically, but he was a bit far from Zhan Hui’s position and wasn’t sure if he could make it in time to save Zhan Hui and his troops.
Suddenly, near the encirclement around Zhan Hui, a young general with a package tied in front was seen charging into the enemy’s ranks.
“Who is that?” Zhan Beicang noticed as well.
“I don’t know, but he’s heading to his death!”
The blood rose in Zhan Beicang, and he speared down a fierce Western Rong warrior from his horse. At this moment, he couldn’t save his own son!
He was the Main General and couldn’t disrupt the battle plan for his son; he shouted, “Every soldier of the Zhan Family Army is a warrior, kill!”
Mu Yan, after taking down a Deputy General of the Western Rong, was the closest and had the clearest view; the young general charging into the enemy’s ranks was actually Zhan Lan.
Zhan Hui and his men were heavily surrounded; Zhan Lan must be risking her life to save her beloved!
“Drive!” Mu Yan gripped his sword tightly and spurred his horse to pursue.
A young officer wielding a battle spear charged into the ranks of the Western Rong army, who entirely underestimated Zhan Lan.
They continued to attack Zhan Hui, who was surrounded.
With her battle spear, Zhan Lan stabbed several Western Rong cavalrymen to death, unwrapped the package around her waist and ignited the gunpowder in her hands.
She tied rocks beneath the gunpowder and hurled it; the moment it was thrown, it exploded amidst the Western Rong army.
Boom!
This blast killed only a few Western Rong soldiers.
However, its subsequent impact was tremendous!
The horses of Western Rong were startled by the intense explosion, scattering uncontrollably.
A gap immediately appeared in the encirclement of the Western Rong forces.
It was this very gap that secured Zhan Hui’s breakout.
“Zhan Hui! Hurry!” Zhan Lan shouted towards Zhan Hui’s direction!
Zhan Hui immediately broke towards the gap, but Zhan Lan was swiftly surrounded by the Western Rong forces.
“Kill that young officer!” the Main General of the Western Rong army commanded, pointing at Zhan Lan.
Holding her battle spear, Zhan Lan faced no fear; although her strength had not yet reached the level of her previous life, killing Western Rong soldiers was still an effortless task.
Seeing Zhan Lan surrounded by the Western Rong army, Mu Yan spurred his horse and also charged into her encirclement.
Only a small faction of the Western Rong army was surrounding Zhan Lan. Though Zhan Hui was about to break out of the encirclement, if the pursuers behind them weren’t stopped, he’d be encircled again. Even if he managed to escape barely, the prospect of seeing Zhan Hui with broken arms and legs was something Zhan Lan couldn’t bear.
Seeing Mu Yan create a breach for her, Zhan Lan was momentarily stunned, then she shouted, “Lord Mu, I beg you, go help Zhan Hui escape the siege!”
Mu Yan thrust his sword through the chest of a Western Rong soldier, then beheaded another one.
Blood splattered on his armor, and he said coldly, “First take care of yourself!”
Mu Yan, furious, continued killing several Western Rong soldiers.
Each one fell with a single stroke!
In the midst of life and death, Zhan Lan’s thoughts were still on Zhan Hui; he almost wished he could carry her off the battlefield to show her who truly cared for her!
In desperation, Zhan Lan said, “Lord Mu, I beg you, save my own brother!”
Hearing the words “own brother,” Mu Yan’s heart skipped, while Zhan Lan continued slaying enemies, saying, “Whatever you ask of me in the future, I will agree!”
“He’s only sixteen, the Zhan Family can’t be without descendants, he hasn’t even married Chu Yin!” Pushed to urgency, Zhan Lan grasped her long spear; as it collided with the curved sabers of the Western Rong army, it flashed like lightning, striking a Western Rong soldier who spurted blood and traced an arc in the air as he fell.
Struck as if by lightning upon hearing Zhan Lan’s words,
was the Chu Yin Zhan Lan mentioned the same crazy girl he had saved on the official road?
She and Zhan Hui belong together!
Unaware himself, Mu Yan’s lips curled into a smile, his fingers loosely by his lips as he whistled.
A hundred-man troop in black armor then charged towards the Western Rong forces blocking Zhan Hui.
Seeing Mu Yan’s men attack, Zhan Lan breathed a sigh of relief and continued fighting.
She had noticed earlier atop the city wall, Mu Yan’s men waiting to protect him.
They are the elite of the Xingtian Department, each of whom could fight a hundred alone; they would surely cover Zhan Hui’s escape from the encirclement!
What do you think?
