Chapter114-The Manager's Breakdown
Kidd had previously been plump and somewhat sleazy in appearance, but now he looked so much thinner that Velen almost didn't recognize him at first glance!
Hearing the familiar voice, the young man immediately stopped in his tracks and turned around sharply.
Upon confirming that it was indeed Velen, his face was filled with shock as he strode toward him.
"Velen, is that really you?"
Anastasia, observing the apparent familiarity between the two, was slightly taken aback.
She hadn't expected Velen to know someone even in Chaos City.
Moreover, judging by the badge on the man's chest, he wasn't from their star system.
"Kidd, you gave me your communication pass last time—how do you still have one?"
Seeing Kidd stop before him, Velen immediately asked in curiosity.
The pass to enter Chaos City wasn't easy to obtain. He had gone through great lengths to acquire one, and he had assumed it would be a long time before he could see Kidd again—yet here they were.
"Ugh!"
Kidd let out a heavy sigh, looking at Velen with a bitter smile.
"Velen, you have no idea what I went through after returning to the Holy Light Temple!"
"Not only was I targeted by my mentor, but even the Grand Senator, Lucas, kept pushing me, insisting that I was destined to be a divine swordsman and that I should carry forward the profession of Judgment Swordsman!"
"For days, they forced me through inhumane training and tests before dragging me into the family's secret realm, where there were all sorts of swords. The Grand Senator ordered me to choose one. I picked one at random, purely by instinct."
"When I grabbed that golden greatsword, I unexpectedly found a pass hidden inside it."
"Velen, you know me—forcing me to become a swordsman and participate in direct combat is as good as sending me to my death! You gave me that Sword of Judgement fragment last time, and it's been nothing but trouble for me!"
Kidd was now looking at Velen with teary eyes, as if on the verge of breaking down.
"I really don't want to be a swordsman. I couldn't bear going through their relentless training anymore, so I decided to stay in Chaos City and find a job."
"This way, I don't have to face my mentor and the Grand Senator, and I can also earn Chaos Cards to buy what I want."

As he finished speaking, the frustration and resentment on Kidd's face finally eased a little.
Beside them, Anastasia was utterly stunned.
She could hardly believe how extravagant Velen was!
The Sword of Judgement was an incredibly powerful skill, even in the Upper Plane Universe.
Kidd clearly wanted nothing to do with it, so why had Velen wasted such a precious thing on him?
She felt she could bear that burden for Kidd.
As Anastasia's mind raced with these thoughts, a sharp aura suddenly radiated from Velen. Then, in his open palm, an ancient book appeared—its very presence exuding an overwhelming sword intent.
The sight of the book struck Anastasia with an eerie sense of familiarity, as she felt a chilling sword energy emanating from it.
For Kidd, who had already become a swordsman, his perception of sword energy was even sharper. The moment he saw the book, a bad premonition crept into his heart, and he immediately asked in alarm:
"Velen, what is that thing? Why do I suddenly have a really bad feeling about it?"
He wanted nothing more than to avoid becoming a swordsman, but thanks to the Sword of Judgement, his sensitivity to sword intent had become unnaturally acute.
If Velen had brought out something like this, there was a very high chance it was related to the Sword of Judgement!
Facing Kidd's question, Velen simply smiled and spoke truthfully:
"This is a Class Upgrade Book—it can greatly enhance your class experience. It's a huge benefit for you! You'll become a Grand Swordsman instantly, saving yourself years of grueling training!"
As he spoke, Velen handed the Class Upgrade Book to Kidd.
Before Kidd could even react, the Judgment Sword Energy within him surged like a tidal wave.
A colossal angelic figure appeared above Kidd's head, wielding a dazzling sword of light that emitted an aura capable of rending the heavens and earth.
The sheer radiance of the Judgment Blade was so intense that it turned everything around them into blinding white.
Grand Swordsman!
As the phenomenon unfolded before his eyes, Kidd was left utterly speechless.
He had only just begun as a swordsman, and under normal circumstances, it would have taken him years of effort to reach the rank of Grand Swordsman.
Yet, with Velen's reckless gifting of a Class Upgrade Book, he had jumped straight to that rank in an instant!
It was absolutely insane.
Even as the person experiencing it firsthand, Kidd felt as though he was dreaming.
Then, his shock quickly turned into fear and regret.
Because the moment he returned, his mentor and the Grand Senator would see his overwhelming talent and be ecstatic—only to push him even harder toward becoming a Judgment Swordsman.
Why did his life keep getting worse?
Despite his massive power-up, Kidd didn't look particularly thrilled—nor did he seem too dejected.
After all, he had already decided to stay here indefinitely and never return!
"Velen, thanks so much for all these 'gifts' you've prepared for me."
"But I don't need anything more for now—I'll be staying here and working for the time being."
To Kidd, Velen was clearly digging a hole for him, but at least now he had a way to avoid the consequences.
His mentor and the Grand Senator didn't have passes to Chaos City. Even if they did, their strength would be suppressed upon entering, making them powerless to do anything about him.
Seeing Kidd's determination to stay, Velen suddenly had an idea.
He turned toward the store manager who had come over to watch the commotion and asked with interest:
"You're the manager of this shop, right?"
"How much would it cost to fire Kidd from your store?"
At these words, the atmosphere instantly froze.
The store manager, though a high-ranking employee, had no special privileges in Chaos City. He had only earned his position through over a century of diligent service.
He had dealt with plenty of difficult customers before, but this was something else entirely.
Weren't these two friends?
Why was Velen offering money to get Kidd fired?
"Velen, as the manager, I do have the authority to fire employees," he explained cautiously.
"But if I do so without cause, I'll be severely penalized and have a large number of Chaos Cards deducted."
Before he could finish speaking, Velen handed him a Heaven's Card.@@novelbin@@
"No matter how much gets deducted, I'll compensate you ten times over!"
"You know, Kidd is my friend, and he has extraordinary talent as a Judgment Swordsman. For the sake of his brighter future, I'm willing to spend everything I have!"
Hearing this, Kidd—who had just been silently cursing Velen—was suddenly overwhelmed with emotion.
Velen might be a pain in the ass, but when it really mattered, he never let him down!
To Kidd, Velen was his best friend.
"Velen, since you're so determined to look out for my future… Fine. This time, I'll listen to you. I'll leave Chaos City on my own."
If Sword of Judgement and the Class Upgrade Book were both perfect fits for him, then perhaps… becoming a Judgment Swordsman was his inevitable fate.
Since that was the case, he would face it head-on.
At least he had Velen—his rock in this absurd journey.
As he followed Velen away, the store manager nearly had a breakdown watching them leave.
"Hey, hey, hey—you three! You're leaving without compensating me? And weren't you about to buy a bunch of stuff?!"
"I'll even give you a discount—just don't leave yet!"
But as his desperate cries faded into the distance, the three figures disappeared into the crowd.
Thinking about how much he could have earned if the deal had gone through, the manager felt as though he had just watched a fortune slip through his fingers.
The rollercoaster of emotions—from excitement to utter disappointment—was unbearable.
...
After leaving the shop, Kidd glanced at Velen before sneaking a subtle look at Anastasia.
He had met plenty of beautiful noblewomen before, but the moment he laid eyes on Anastasia, he was still taken aback by her beauty.
"Velen, who is this lady?"
Velen chuckled and said, "Her name is Anastasia. She's the lord of our fortress—and also my direct superior."
As soon as Velen finished speaking, Anastasia nodded in acknowledgment—then immediately darted toward the nearby shop.
What do you think?
