Chapter 140: Uncle doesn’t know either.
The two of them ate a late-night snack on the rooftop, and just after eleven, Yan Shixiu prepared to escort Miss Shi Lan back to her room to rest. That’s when Sun Ling called Shi Lan.
“Boss, that big idiot Gu Chengyu is pressing your doorbell. You and Yan Shixiu shouldn’t come back yet,” said Sun Ling.
“Got it.”
“Is he out of his mind? Ringing a female artist’s door at midnight, he figures the rumors won’t hurt him, right?” Sun Ling griped on the phone. “How can Gu Chengyu be such a scumbag? Who can bear this kind of harassment?”
After hanging up with Sun Ling, Shi Lan turned to Yan Shixiu: “I want to complain.”
Yan Shixiu, already having a vague idea of what was happening, took Shi Lan to sit down on the lounge chairs at the observation deck: “For now, just make do with sleeping here, or would you like to go to my place?”
Shi Lan tilted her head and leaned on the lounge chair, then asked Yan Shixiu, “Do you realize how dangerous your invitation is?”
Yan Shixiu also tilted his head, leaning on his own lounge chair, and asked back, “How is it dangerous?”
Shi Lan: “If you flirt any more, you’re going to lose me.”
Yan Shixiu laughed: “Spare me, at my age, it takes all my energy just to spoil you.”
Shi Lan, feeling sleepy, pushed the two lounge chairs together and leaned on Yan Shixiu’s shoulder. Half-asleep and half-awake, she murmured softly, “Uncle, why couldn’t we get along like this before?”
Yan Shixiu patted Shi Lan’s cheek and couldn’t help but sigh, “Uncle doesn’t know either.
…
Downstairs, Gu Chengyu waited at Shi Lan’s room door for over half an hour. He didn’t know that Shi Lan had changed her number; all he knew was that the messages he sent to Shi Lan vanished without a trace. Therefore, he went straight to Shi Lan’s room, feeling justified and confident, because he had secured a resource negotiation for Shi Lan.
However, Shi Lan’s door never opened for him from beginning to end.
After returning to his own room, Gu Chengyu sat on the sofa, feeling discontented.
Seeing him seemingly caught up in his feelings, the assistant said to him, “Otherwise, why don’t you wait for An Lan to secure this resource, and then take credit for it? Otherwise, I’m afraid your scheme might backfire and make An Lan dislike you even more.”
After listening to his assistant, Gu Chengyu patted his knees and said, “You’re right, I’ve been too anxious.”
Seizing the moment, the assistant continued, “Although you’ve already made things clear with Beini, you also shouldn’t go too far. After all, the news won’t be announced for a while, and you don’t want the fans to catch you getting too close to An Lan. If it leaks, the company will be in big trouble.”
“Then I’ll keep it a secret for now, and give her a surprise once she’s confirmed the contract,” Gu Chengyu said, rubbing his hands together excitedly.
Actually, the assistant didn’t understand. Even though he knew that relationships in this circle were messy, especially among some of the younger artists, why did Gu Chengyu suddenly find An Lan appealing? Was it simply because she had sobered up and stopped paying attention to him, which, paradoxically, made her more attractive to him?
“You should also consider Beini’s feelings a bit, since you’re still working on the same drama together.”
“We’ve already broken up, is it necessary? What do you think, should I suggest to Director Tang to replace Chen Beini with An Lan as the female lead?”
After hearing this, the assistant thought he had lost his mind: “Chengyu, we’re here to make a film, do you understand how important this film is to you? Besides, you did care for Beini once, and she treated you well. In the end, she is in this mess because of you. You can’t be so heartless, can you?”
What do you think?
