Vol. 1 - Chapter 122 - Deliberate
Looking at the imposing Chen Qingyu in front of him, Chen Qingxiu hesitated.@@novelbin@@
“Um…”
“Hmm?”
Seeing Chen Qingyu’s puzzled gaze, Chen Qingxiu bit his lip and quickly said, “The clan leader asked me to inform you that a Spirit Tailed Chicken is missing and wants you to find it…”
Chen Qingyu, who had been ready to fight to the death, was stunned for a moment. His face darkened upon learning that the clan leader wanted him to find a missing Spirit Tailed Chicken. He, Chen Qingyu, an Innate Realm martial artist, considered the clan’s top expert and the hope of the younger generation—now being asked to find a Spirit Tailed Chicken!
“The clan leader said this is the will of the Divine Tree,” Chen Qingxiu hurriedly added.
Upon hearing that, Chen Qingyu’s expression quickly returned to normal. Though still somewhat confused, he nodded. “I understand.”
…
After learning the details, Chen Qingyu followed the tracks from the chicken coop and quickly left the clan compound. Even though he knew the two Spirit Tailed Chickens were kept for breeding purposes, he couldn’t shake his confusion. Why would the Divine Tree be so concerned about this matter? Since the Divine Tree rarely issued decrees, he felt the need to handle it properly.
Pushing aside his doubts, Chen Qingyu focused on the faint tracks on the ground. Though subtle, his keen senses as an Innate Realm martial artist allowed him to detect even the slightest traces. If he could reach a level of mastery in the Innate Realm, he would be able to briefly enter that state, exponentially enhancing his senses and granting him a significant advantage in battle.
The tracks led him toward the outskirts of Chaotic Burial Mountain. However, when he reached the area, they abruptly disappeared.
Chen Qingyu frowned. Could the Spirit Tailed Chicken have entered the mountain? The Chaotic Burial Mountain was vast—how was he supposed to find a single chicken in such a place? And even if he did, how could he be sure it was the missing one?
After a moment of thought, he decided to enter the mountain.
Yet, after walking a certain distance, he suddenly stopped, his confusion deepening. Despite searching thoroughly, he couldn’t find a single trace of the Spirit Tailed Chicken. The ground bore plenty of tracks from other wild animals, but the Spirit Tailed Chicken seemed to have vanished completely.
Spirit Tailed Chickens, though capable of flight, rarely used their wings, preferring to travel on foot. Yet, for some reason, this one had chosen to fly at just the right moment to throw him off track.
Before it could run far, its feet suddenly lifted off the ground, and it let out a series of clucks.
In the distance, a young man grabbed it by the neck. The captured Spirit Tailed Chicken struggled briefly but soon went still when it realized escape was impossible.
Chen Qingyu studied the creature in his hand, his expression tinged with confusion.
Just moments ago, after failing to find the Spirit Tailed Chicken’s tracks within the Chaotic Burial Mountain, he had backtracked to where the trail had disappeared. Before long, he discovered another set of tracks leading in the opposite direction.
In other words, the Spirit Tailed Chicken had originally been heading toward the mountain, but at the last moment, it had flown a short distance before changing course.
Why?
Had it been a coincidence, or was it deliberate?
Chen Qingyu scrutinized the Spirit Tailed Chicken carefully, but it appeared no different from any other. Perhaps he was overthinking it. Still, since the Divine Tree had issued a decree, maybe this Spirit Tailed Chicken was special in some way. No matter how special, though, it was still just a Spirit Tailed Chicken.
At any rate, he had completed his task. It was best to return and let the clan leader handle it.
…
Back at the clan, Chen Xingzhen examined the Spirit Tailed Chicken but found nothing unusual about it. Still, since it had been retrieved, he simply said, “Put it back in the chicken coop.”
Chen Qingyu asked no questions and nodded.
As he turned to leave, he suddenly paused. “Clan leader, does our clan really have to live under the rule of others?”
Chen Xingzhen fell silent, offering no response—but Chen Qingyu already knew the answer.
After a few steps, Chen Xingzhen’s voice finally came. “In a few days, you will represent the clan and go on a trip. See the outside world.”
“Understood.”
Hearing this, Chen Qingyu’s eyes brightened slightly. He had long wanted to see what lay beyond the clan’s domain—to witness the world with his own eyes.
…
Night fell.
Inside the Ancestral Hall, Ji Yang’s thoughts drifted to the clan’s chicken coop. Soon, he saw the Spirit Tailed Chicken that had escaped a few days ago, now back in its enclosure.
This time, the clan had reinforced the fence, leaving no way for it to escape. The Spirit Tailed Chicken was still asleep, but compared to a few days ago, it had grown noticeably. According to reports, its appetite had increased significantly.
Ji Yang’s consciousness remained fixed on the creature. He wanted to observe it further.
At midnight, the Spirit Tailed Chicken slowly opened its eyes. Next to it, another chicken was still fast asleep. Based on Ji Yang’s previous observations, this particular chicken should make a move.
Yet strangely, it didn’t. Instead, its gaze shifted to the fence.
Seeing the reinforced structure, the Spirit Tailed Chicken’s eyes revealed a flicker of disappointment. But it didn’t give up. Instead, it began patrolling the perimeter, seemingly searching for a weak spot.
Ji Yang watched, deep in thought.
It seemed the divine ability functioned as described—it only took time for the spirit to awaken. And once awakened, the effects were quite remarkable.
