Reincarnated as a Fairy: My Magic Wings Will Soar Above This Fantasy World!

Chapter 2: A Fox’s Guidance and the Whispering Woods

Lyra stood frozen, staring at the Moonshadow Fox before her. It was no ordinary animal—its sleek silver fur shimmered faintly, and its violet eyes held an unsettling intelligence.

She had read stories about magical creatures back on Earth, but standing before one now, hearing it speak in a voice smooth as flowing water, was something else entirely.

The fox tilted its head, waiting for an answer.

Lyra swallowed, choosing her words carefully. “I… I’m not sure what I am, exactly.” She hesitated. “I know I’m a Sylphid Fairy, but I don’t remember much else.”

The fox’s violet eyes studied her, as if peering through her very essence. Then, with a flick of its tail, it stepped forward, circling her once before sitting down with an air of quiet authority.

“You are newly awakened,” it murmured. “Your magic is raw, unshaped. That explains the lingering scent of the Veil upon you.”

“The Veil?” Lyra echoed.

“The space between realms. All who are reborn pass through it, whether they realize it or not,” the fox explained. “But your presence here is… unusual. The Fae rarely reincarnate, and even when they do, they are bound to their sacred lands. Yet, here you are, a Sylphid Fairy, outside the Faelands.” Its eyes narrowed. “This is no mere accident.”

A chill ran down Lyra’s spine. Reincarnation wasn’t common for fairies? Then why had she been brought here?

Before she could ask more, the fox stood, its ears twitching. “Come,” it said simply. “It is not safe to linger here.”

Lyra blinked. “Why?”

The fox’s gaze flicked toward the darkened edges of the forest. “You are young, untested. The Whispering Woods are home to many things—some that would not hesitate to snuff out a fairy’s light.”

That was enough to convince her.

She took a tentative step forward, her wings twitching instinctively. The fox gave her a sharp glance.

“Have you flown yet?”

Lyra flushed. “I, uh… not really. I tried, but I nearly fell on my face.”

The fox sighed, the sound almost amused. “Fairy wings are not just for show, girl. Feel the air, let it carry you. It is as natural to you as walking.”

She hesitated, then took a deep breath. Slowly, she let her body relax, focusing on the way her wings twitched, the faint hum of magic coursing through her.

Then, she pushed off.

The world shifted beneath her. The ground grew distant as she lifted higher, her wings catching the air with a rhythmic pulse. It was wobbly at first—her instincts screamed at her to stay grounded—but as she adjusted, the sensation became exhilarating.

She wasn’t just flying. She was gliding, floating, the wind wrapping around her like an old friend.

A laugh bubbled up in her chest. She was really doing it!

The fox leaped gracefully alongside her, effortlessly keeping pace. “Not bad for a fledgling.”

Lyra grinned, unable to contain her excitement. “This is amazing!”

“Enjoy it while you can,” the fox said, tone turning serious. “We must move quickly.”

As they traveled deeper into the forest, Lyra couldn’t shake the feeling that something was watching them.

The trees whispered with unseen voices, the bioluminescent glow shifting ever so slightly. Shadows moved where there should be none.

She shivered.

“What exactly are we avoiding?” she asked in a hushed tone.

The fox didn’t answer immediately. Then, it murmured, “The Nightwraiths.”

A chill ran through her. “That… doesn’t sound friendly.”

“They are remnants of old magic—shadows that linger where the veil between realms is thin.” The fox’s eyes gleamed. “And they are drawn to new souls.”

Lyra’s stomach twisted. New souls. Like me.

She cast a wary glance at the darkened treetops. Were those shadows shifting, or was it just her imagination?

The fox quickened its pace. “Come. We must reach the Eldertree before nightfall.”

Lyra clenched her fists and followed, the weight of her new reality settling in.

She had been given a second chance at life—but this world was far more dangerous than she had imagined.
