Chapter 44: The Final Stand - Part 3

The atmosphere in the forest had shifted, thick with tension and the sharp scent of ozone in the air. The ground beneath Lyra’s feet trembled as the three new Magic Boars approached with a menacing grace, their tusks glowing with magic and their hooves pounding the earth. The initial boar, still reeling from the attacks it had endured, slowly got back onto its feet, its eyes burning with fury as it let out an ear-splitting roar.

The trio—Lyra, Ella, and Yuki—stood side by side, weapons drawn and magic at the ready. The moment the boars began to charge, the battle entered a new, terrifying phase.

“Get ready!” Ella shouted, her voice steady despite the chaos swirling around them.

Lyra’s heart raced, her breath coming in short bursts as she felt the wind magic swirling within her. She could feel the power surging through her wings, the energy of the forest mingling with her own. The boars weren’t just physical threats; they were magical anomalies that could warp the very environment around them. She couldn’t let her guard down.

The boars’ tusks crackled with dark lightning, and their bodies radiated magical energy as they bore down on them with terrifying speed. Lyra barely had time to react before the first boar lunged, tusks aimed at her midsection.

“Lyra, move!” Ella yelled, rushing forward with a battle cry. She raised her sword, slashing at the charging boar. But the tusks collided with Ella’s sword, and there was a blinding flash of light. The force sent Ella skidding back, her feet digging into the earth as the boar’s magic pushed against her.

Lyra shot into the air, wings spread wide as she took to the skies. From above, she could see the chaotic movements of the battle unfolding below. Yuki was already engaging the second boar, her twin blades flashing as she dodged lightning strikes and swiped at the boar’s tusks.

But the beasts were relentless, each one more ferocious than the last.

“Yuki! Get out of there!” Lyra shouted, her voice reaching out across the battlefield. She summoned a gust of wind, pushing the second boar back for a moment. It staggered but quickly regained its footing.

Yuki didn’t flinch, her focus locked on the boar as she slashed across its snout with one of her blades. It howled in pain, but it wasn’t enough to stop it. It charged forward again, this time aiming for Yuki.

Ella, still locked in a struggle with the first boar, slashed once more at the beast’s tusks, her sword sending sparks of magic flying. “I can’t hold it for long!” she gritted out, her breath ragged from exertion.

Lyra’s heart pounded as she dove into the fray. She needed to find a way to disable their magic, but that would be difficult with all the chaos around her. She called upon the air currents, directing them to swirl around the first boar, cutting off its path as it charged again. The wind howled fiercely, but the boar pushed forward, undeterred.

Seeing an opening, Lyra summoned a blast of wind magic directly into the boar’s chest. The force of the strike threw the creature back, but it quickly regained its footing, furious and undeterred. Its tusks crackled with raw power, ready to unleash a devastating bolt of lightning.

“Ella! Yuki! We need to take them down now!” Lyra shouted. She didn’t have much time before the boars regrouped and launched another coordinated attack.

Ella, her sword slick with sweat, nodded. “I’ll try to hold the first one off. Yuki, take the second one down, and we’ll focus on the third together.”

Yuki nodded firmly, her expression unreadable as she pivoted to face the second boar, which had been circling her. She darted in, her twin blades flashing with deadly precision as she targeted the creature’s underbelly. The boar howled in rage, but before it could retaliate, Lyra summoned another gust of wind, knocking it off balance.

The wind howled around the boar, and with a flick of her wrist, Yuki struck. Her blade found its mark, and the boar collapsed with a pained squeal, its energy slowly dissipating as it struggled to get back on its feet.

“That’s one down!” Yuki shouted.

But Lyra’s heart skipped a beat as she heard the sound of another charging boar, its tusks crackling with electricity.

“We’re not done yet!” Ella said, gritting her teeth. “Focus!”

The third boar, larger and more dangerous than the others, charged forward with a terrifying speed. Its tusks crackled with dark energy, ready to strike. It was obvious that this one was the leader of the pack, and Lyra could feel the intensity of its magic emanating from it. The boar wasn’t just relying on brute strength—it was an intelligent, calculated adversary.

“We need to stop it before it calls for reinforcements,” Lyra muttered under her breath.

She flew high into the air, feeling the wind beneath her wings. Her heart raced with anticipation as she channeled her magic into her hands. She focused the wind around her, creating a barrier of energy that began to pulse with light.

Ella, seeing what Lyra was doing, rushed forward, distracting the third boar with a flurry of quick slashes. The boar retaliated with a vicious sweep of its tusks, but Ella was nimble, ducking and dodging with impressive agility. The beast’s tusks raked through the air, but Ella remained unscathed, using the momentum of each strike to create an opening for Lyra.

With a swift motion, Lyra unleashed her strongest wind attack yet. A powerful gust of wind tore through the trees, blasting the third boar backward. It let out a roar of frustration, its tusks crackling with energy as it prepared to retaliate.

But Lyra wasn’t done. Her wings fluttered with a sudden surge of magic, and a brilliant beam of light shot from her outstretched hand. The light hit the boar squarely in the chest, and the force of the impact sent it reeling.

For a moment, everything went still. The boar stood there, stunned by the powerful attack, and then slowly collapsed to the ground, defeated.

“We did it!” Yuki yelled, her voice full of relief.

But before they could fully celebrate, the first boar, still twitching with the last remnants of magic, charged again, its tusks blazing with fury.

Lyra’s heart sank. “It’s not over yet!” she cried, readying herself for another round.

The battle was far from finished, and they still had one final boar to face. They had defeated two, but the last one was still standing, and it was angrier than ever. Lyra knew that this wasn’t just a test of strength—it was a fight for survival.

They couldn’t afford to let their guard down now.
