Chapter 6: The Hidden Fae Village
The journey to the village was tense.
Each gust of wind, each shift in the underbrush made Lyra’s wings twitch, expecting something to leap from the shadows. But the further they walked, the thicker the forest became—until the trees grew impossibly tall, their branches intertwining overhead like a vast, glowing canopy.
Then, just as Lyra began to wonder if they were lost, she saw it.
The Fae Village.
It wasn’t like the human towns she had read about in her past life. There were no streets, no houses lined neatly in rows. Instead, the village was woven seamlessly into nature itself.
Homes carved into massive trees glowed with soft, golden light. Bridges of woven vines stretched between towering branches. Crystals embedded in the bark pulsed gently, casting rainbow hues across the leaves.
Tiny lanterns, held aloft by glowing blue moths, drifted lazily through the air.
Lyra stared in awe. “This is… beautiful.”
Eryndor nodded. “The Fae do not build. They grow their homes in harmony with the forest.”
As they stepped forward, they were noticed.
Fairies flitted between the trees, their wings shimmering in hues of emerald, sapphire, and violet. Their laughter, once lighthearted, faded into hushed whispers.
“She’s not one of us.”
“Look at her wings… so strange.”
“Why does she look so… human?”
Lyra’s heart sank.
She had dreamed of meeting others like her, of finding a place where she belonged. But as the fairies’ eyes darted away, their whispers growing sharp, she realized… she wasn’t welcome.
A group of young fairies turned and flew away before she could even say a word.
Eryndor’s ears flicked, his expression unreadable. “Ignore them.”
Lyra tried to, but it was hard to pretend the rejection didn’t sting.
Then—
A bright orange blur zipped through the air toward her, stopping mere inches from her face.
“Hah! You lot are so boring.”
Lyra blinked. The small figure before her had wild, fiery hair, a wicked grin, and wings that looked like tiny embers flickering in the wind.
“Name’s Ember,” she declared. “You look like fun.”
Lyra blinked again. “Uh… thanks?”
Ember smirked. “Wanna blow something up?”
Lyra’s stomach dropped. “Wait, what?”
Eryndor groaned. “Not her.”
What do you think?
