Chapter 76: Building the Team – Lyra's Staff and the Road to the Grand Opening

After spending a few days getting her new shop, The Arcane Forge, set up, Lyra was now faced with the next important task: hiring a team. While she had all the ideas and magic at her disposal, she knew the success of her business would depend on the people she hired. She needed competent individuals to manage the shop, assist customers, and handle the influx of traffic that would come with the grand opening.

She wasn’t just looking for ordinary employees—Lyra needed people who were skilled, trustworthy, and efficient. She wasn’t about to leave her dreams in the hands of just anyone.

The Merchant’s Guild was the first place she thought to go. After all, the guild was known for having a vast network of workers from all walks of life, whether they were skilled laborers, craftsmen, or those looking for work in the retail sector.

At the Merchant’s Guild

Lyra entered the familiar, bustling Merchant’s Guild. The guildhouse was a tall, impressive building, with large windows letting in sunlight and the constant hum of business negotiations taking place within. It was the lifeblood of the city’s commerce, with the exchange of goods and services happening at every corner.

Approaching the front desk, she smiled at the young woman behind it, who greeted her politely.

“Welcome to the Merchant’s Guild! How can I assist you today?” the girl asked, her voice friendly and welcoming.

“I’m looking to hire staff for my new business, The Arcane Forge,” Lyra began. “I need some workers—people who can help run a magic artifact shop, handle customers, and manage inventory. Do you have anyone available?”

The receptionist nodded, and with a quick tap of her finger on a ledger, she motioned toward a hallway.

“I can introduce you to a few candidates who are looking for work right now. Please follow me.”

Lyra followed the receptionist down the hallway until they reached a small meeting room. The girl opened the door and led Lyra inside, where three women were waiting. They stood from their seats as Lyra entered, and she took a moment to assess them.

The first woman was a tall, slender individual with long auburn hair and piercing green eyes. She looked professional and had a quiet yet confident air about her. She was likely someone who could handle business and customer interactions.

The second woman

was shorter but very energetic, with bright blonde hair tied in a ponytail. Her blue eyes gleamed with excitement, and there was an undeniable charm to her. She would be perfect for sales and customer engagement.

The third woman had short black hair and wore glasses that gave her a studious look. She was on the quieter side but had a certain level of organization about her. From her demeanor, Lyra could tell she was likely to be excellent with inventory management or administrative tasks.

“Good afternoon,” Lyra greeted them. “I’m Lyra Everleaf, and I’m starting a business here in the city. I’m looking for three individuals to work with me at my shop. I’ll need someone to manage customer interactions, someone for sales, and someone to handle the paperwork and inventory. Would you each mind introducing yourselves?”

The first woman stepped forward and gave a small bow.

“My name is Rhea Allister,” she said with a calm but firm voice. “I have experience working in customer relations, and I’m well-versed in managing shops. I know how to handle customer concerns and keep a business running smoothly.”

“I’m Amelia Ashford!” the second woman said enthusiastically, almost bouncing on her heels. “I’ve been in sales for a few years now, and I’m great at engaging customers and helping them find exactly what they need. I also have a knack for promoting new products and boosting sales.”

Finally, the third woman stepped forward with a smile.

“I’m Sera Blackwood,” she said quietly, adjusting her glasses. “I’ve worked as a shop assistant before, specializing in inventory management and logistics. I can also keep track of business finances and help with any administrative work.”

Lyra listened carefully, nodding as she evaluated each woman. These three seemed like they could form a strong team for The Arcane Forge.

“All of you sound perfect for what I need,” Lyra said, smiling warmly. “I’d like to hire you.”

She then took out a contract and passed it around for each of them to sign. After reading over the terms, they signed it, and Lyra officially had her first staff.

“Thank you,” Lyra said. “I’m looking forward to working with all of you.”

After the introductions were complete and the contracts signed, Lyra told her new hires to head to the shop. She still had one more task to take care of—securing the shop.

Hiring Security at the Adventurer’s Guild

Lyra knew that The Arcane Forge would attract a lot of attention. With magical items, enchanted weapons, and rare artifacts on display, there was a chance someone might try to steal or cause trouble. She wasn’t taking any chances. She needed strong, capable individuals to watch over the shop and ensure its safety.

The Adventurer’s Guild was the perfect place to find people for this job. It was known for its vast network of skilled warriors, bodyguards, and mercenaries who took on all sorts of jobs, from guarding treasures to protecting caravans.

Lyra made her way to the guildhouse, which was located near the center of the city. The guild was a bustling place, with adventurers coming and going, some fresh from battle and others preparing for their next quest. The walls were lined with posters detailing job offers and requests for help, and the air smelled faintly of leather and iron.

At the front desk, she approached a young woman with a clipboard.

“Good afternoon. I’m looking to hire security for my shop, The Arcane Forge. Do you have anyone available who might be looking for work?”

The receptionist looked up, scanning through a list of names.

“Yes, actually. We have a pair of siblings—a brother and a sister—who are looking for work. They’re both skilled fighters, and they have experience with guard duty. They’ve been stationed in various towns as bodyguards.”

“Can you introduce me?” Lyra asked.

The receptionist nodded and gestured for Lyra to follow her.

They walked down a corridor and arrived at a small room where a young man and woman sat, chatting quietly. They were twins, with dark brown hair and piercing amber eyes. The brother wore light armor, and the sister had a bow slung across her back.

“Hello,” Lyra greeted them warmly. “I’m Lyra Everleaf. I’m looking for security for my shop, The Arcane Forge, and the receptionist tells me you two are available.”

The twins stood up and introduced themselves.

“I’m Kian,” the brother said, giving a nod of respect. “I specialize in swordsmanship and close combat.”

“And I’m Keira,” the sister said, giving a friendly wave. “I’m skilled with a bow and have experience in scouting and ranged defense.”

Lyra smiled. They seemed like the perfect fit for her needs.

“Here’s what I need,” Lyra explained. “You’ll be responsible for guarding the shop, ensuring no one tries to steal or cause trouble. You’ll also be the first line of defense in case anything happens.”

The twins nodded in understanding, their faces serious.

“Sounds perfect,” Kian said.

“We’ll sign the contract,” Keira added.

After signing the contracts, the twins also agreed to meet Lyra at the shop.

At The Arcane Forge – A Team Assembles

Once everyone had returned to the shop, Lyra addressed her new staff. She looked at Rhea, Amelia, and Sera, who stood near the counter, and then at Kian and Keira, who stood by the entrance, ready to guard the door.

“All right,” Lyra began, “I’m excited to have all of you on board. Let’s go over wages. Rhea, Amelia, and Sera—each of you will receive one gold coin per week. Kian and Keira, since you’ll be handling security, I’ll pay each of you three gold coins per week for your protection services.”

Everyone nodded in agreement.

“I also want to introduce you to a few people,” Lyra said with a smile. She called in Yuki and Ella, her trusted companions who had been with her since the beginning.

The team exchanged introductions, and Yuki and Ella were greeted warmly by the new staff.

Lyra then clapped her hands together. “Now that we’re all here, I think it’s time for a little celebration. Let’s have a company party!”

The staff cheered in excitement, and soon, everyone gathered around the small dining area that Lyra had set up in the back of the shop. There was laughter and chatter as they shared stories of their pasts, and Lyra found herself grateful for this new team of talented, reliable individuals.

It was a new chapter, and Lyra was confident that with the support of her new staff and the love of her friends, The Arcane Forge would soon become a success.
