Chapter 423 - 180 Kael, How Arrogant You Are (10K, Please Subscribe)_6

```
More than 400,000 refugees perished in the assault and the intense heat, taking with them those who had no time to raise the "Mobile Church" to pray, as well as the Chosen Ones who had not yet revived in flesh and blood.
The surging heat and radiation nourished the Evil God’s Flesh infused into the tactical nuke, turning the path of escape into a sky full of crimson flames.
...
An unprecedented sense of tedium enveloped Kael. In the past, he felt malice coming from all directions, a gaze that seemed omnipresent, like the pervasive cold winds from the south, but now, that malicious gaze was gone.
The war upon the fields, with the death of the Chosen Ones, had fallen into a one-sided situation, with the badly damaged Ranger Squads and the support units quietly nestled in the woods.
They had basically lost the ability to fight.
After a long while, dawn tore through the night, and in the thin twilight, the endless roar of vehicles could be heard.
A weary Kael lifted his head to see a group of battered troops.
"Wandong City Infantry 7th Brigade."
"Wandong City Tactical Rocket 11th Brigade."
"Wandong City Armored 44th Brigade."
Standing at the forefront, a pale-faced goblin soldier saluted Kael last, "Wandong City Thermal Arms Brigade. Colonel, the four remaining units from the battle are also all that’s left of Wandong City’s compatriots. We are now under your command!"
"..." Kael looked at their eyes, which were fraught with pain but filled with reverence, and slowly stood up.
A red sun slowly climbed up the horizon, shining upon this blood-stained troop.
Kael looked at their faces; they were all young.
He took a deep breath and said in a low voice, "Uryan, step forward." Explore more stories with NovelBin.Côm
Uryan, still wrapped in bandages, stepped to the front.
"How’s the situation with the detailed statistics?"
Uryan clutched a small notebook in his hand, his fingers gripping it a bit too tight, and handed the notebook to Kael. Kael glanced at it and read aloud gravely:
"Now reporting the battle situation and casualties of this campaign—
The campaign, initiated by the Goblin United Council Command Center, assembled Infantry 7th Brigade, Tactical Rocket 11th Brigade, Armored 44th Brigade, Thermal Arms Brigade, under my command, with the intention of dealing a heavy blow to the Chosen Ones and then using the tactical nuke to sweep the battlefield, with the aim to destroy the core command power of the Alliance’s troops—the Chosen Ones and his Personal Guard.
To ensure the safety of either the evacuating crowd or the main battle troops, under the command of the Wandong City wartime supreme commander, two preparations were made.
Dr. Osborne, director of Wandong City Research Institute and chief of staff at the operations center, retained one of the two tactical nukes attentive to the power of burning blood, designated TACTICAL NUKE-4104, and Uryan, brigade commander of the West Sea Defensive Line Mixed Brigade and staff officer at the operation center, was tasked with executing the detonation of TACTICAL NUKE-4104.
The Prayers lacked the speed to suppress both forces simultaneously. Should either the evacuating crowd or the main battle force face the main army of the Prayers, it would be the operation center or Dr. Osborne and Uryan’s responsibility to confirm the situation and carry out the crucial detonation process.
In this battle, the number of Prayers was unprecedentedly weak; the Prayers involved in the extermination were less than half the number at their peak, leading us to believe that the main target of the Prayers in this campaign was...the large evacuating crowd.
Now, aside from half of the personnel of Infantry 7th Brigade, Tactical Rocket 11th Brigade, Armored 44th Brigade, Thermal Arms Brigade being intact, the 400,000 evacuees are confirmed to have lost signs of resistance under the Prayers’ attack.
The above targets, upon confirmation by Chief of Staff Dr. Osborne to be true, were hit by tactical bombardment carried out by me.
According to the reconnaissance squad’s observation, the besieging fleet’s Prayers could not deploy the barrier in time and suffered retaliatory bombardment from our side, all perishing.
```

Post-battle statistics—

MIA: sigh... over 400,000;

Infantry 7th Brigade, death toll 3,114;

Tactical Rocket 11th Brigade, death toll 1,045;

Armored 44th Brigade, death toll 4,192.

Total... deaths 8,351, MIA over 400,000.

Following this battle, we have become the lone army of Wandong City.

Without the guidance of the Chosen One, the disorganized believers can no longer form an effective "Mobile Church". Apart from White Symthia, who has a few believers under her command and guards the rear, the Chosen One’s living force can hardly resist any longer.

Just like more than a decade ago, we have gained a period during which we can not only survive but also potentially launch a counteroffensive.

Gentlemen, there are no true victors in this battle. Whichever side lives on will have to, and inevitably, endure a future coexisting with those disorganized believers on this land.

Before embracing this not-so-bright future, I wish all survivors in this era of upheaval and destruction can cling to everything within their power, struggling to live on in this world.

Lastly...

Kael closed the notebook and handed it to Uryan, looking at everyone with a serene expression, "I will personally go to the explosion site to confirm whether the Chosen One has survived, that is all."

After making arrangements with his subordinates and informing Uryan to take the lead in guarding the remaining people, Kael boarded the ATV, gesturing the others to leave amidst Uryan’s complex expression.

"Alright, we don’t have much time left. Some matters, it’s better if I verify them myself."

After speaking, Kael gave Uryan an indifferent look, "The safety of the rest is in your hands now."

Uryan opened his mouth to refuse but was kicked to the ground by Kael.

He glanced around at the respectful yet complex looks from everyone and smiled at Uryan.

Uryan quietly watched him, sighed, and understood Kael’s intention.

"At least let me accompany you part of the way."

Kael thought for a moment, looking at Uryan’s determined eyes, and after a long while, nodded his head.

...

Driving along the main road outside the city, circling half a forest, crossing a natural gully, bypassing the exploded port, they finally headed straight toward Wandong City, now devoid of any signs of life.

Upon arriving at the gates of the Wandong City Research Institute once again, Kael saw Dr. Osborne, dressed in protective gear, waving at them.

Parking the vehicle and approaching Dr. Osborne, Kael, without any delay, headed toward the research institute:

"Uryan, go back. The team needs you to be their shield."

Uryan stood at the door, silent for a long while, and finally said, "There’s no need. Everyone can understand your choice."

Kael stopped in his tracks, turned his face toward him, and said, "Uryan, you are older than me, you should by all means think more clearly than I do."
