Vol. 11 - Chapter 564 - Confrontation! The Might of Phantasmal Defender Lacritta!

—The skirmish began between Class-8 and Class-9 & Class-10.

"Lacritta, take the helm. Noel, cast all the buffs you can!"

"U-Understood!"

"«Distance Melody♪» Let's sing the unique skill—«Princess Idol Live»!"

Promptly acting on Mert's order, Lacritta moved to vanguard, while Noel started singing, the mike in her hand glowing in special effects. With the assistance of active skill «Distance Melody», her singing reached to each corner of the square.

Furthermore, with the passive «Special Song», and the singing effect from 'Cheer', the potency and effect of her buff gain another leap.

"Gracing you with strength and spirit, «Hear Ye, Cheer Ye»~♪ Protecting everyone, «Heartful Cheer»~♪ With courage and hope, «Magical Cheer»~♪"

A pleasant song, one you wouldn't expect to hear in a hot-blooded battlefield, dominated the area, strengthening the members of Class-8 in strides.

For the duration of unique skill «Princess Idol Live», any background noise would be replaced by BGM. Plus, it reduced the usage of MP, and also skyrocketed the strength. The effects were further amplified with Noel's original song.

And soon, Class-9 and Class-10 had charge within the attack range of Class-8. @@novelbin@@

"Blast them with area magic!!"

"Rout that tank first!"

Mert and Keel commands resounded within the same moment.

Within a heartbeat, AoE attacks hailed down from Class-8, while Class-9 and Class-10 prompted for strong single target attack toward Lacritta, and also shot range attack to suppress Class-8's movement.

Compared to the opponent, Class-8 was falling short on quantity aspect, but the gap was filled by Mert's «Quick Magic» and Noel's «Improvised Rhythm Cheer» that allowed a swift rotation of skill.

The tanks stepped forward as the spells and skill hurled on both sides.

Albeit, Class-8's disadvantages become apparent here. Class-9 and Class-10 had two tanks to fend off the incoming attacks, however Class-8 only had Lacritta. Plus, the focus of both classes were wholeheartedly settled on taking out Lacritta.

With the barrage of endless attack, even Lacritta wouldn't be able to completely fend them off, no matter how excellent a tank Lacritta was. This was Keel's prediction, and he was right—until the following changes that went beyond his comprehension.

"Pon! Appear, the Phantasmal Titan—«The Great Mirage Racoon»!"

Lacritta had hoisted up her shield and intoned the skill when a giant, bipedal racoon appeared at the frontline.

"...Huhh??"

A dumbfounded yell escaped from Keel's mouth.

The sudden appearance of over 10m giant—no, the giant raccoon immediately snatched away the attention of Lacritta's opponent.

Needless to say, it was the effect of «The Great Mirage Racoon», instinctively grabbing anyone's attention. And following the shift, the attack targeting Lacritta switched to the giant raccoon.

"W-what the heck is that thingg?!"

Keel put up a silly yell when he saw the shocking spectacle—the barrage of attacks that should've been targeting Lacritta had instead turned on their route and were now targeting the giant raccoon.

«The Great Mirage Racoon», in layman's terms, was a substitute technique. Its mechanic lies in attracting all the attacks towards itself, and since the giant raccoon was a mere illusion, the attack would only pass through and disappear, while the illusion would remain intact.

A much of Keel's shock had originated from how effortlessly a single tank turned the tide of their onslaught.

Illusions, mirage, or tricks—such was the forte of Lacritta, a phantasmal defender. With a range of unconventional skills, the Racoon Shielder pierced through the other tank jobs and firmly rooted its position as one of the mightiest options in high-top ranking jobs.

On the other hand, the advance of two classes had dropped to a snail-pace as Tank halted down to weather the attacks hailing from Class-8.

"Tsk, they really got me. I didn't hear she also has a wide-range magic of such sort. Let's go for a second break, everyone! Now that trump card is in cooldown time, we can definitely snip out that tank! Let's show them our tanks are no less than them!"

Keel swiftly announced another attack.

Since they've begun, they must not give their opponent time to catch a breath. They'd to stand the tide without losing their grip.

And having reached the finale through their excellent performance, the classmates needed no further explanation and acted on their plan.

Though of course, the hope could only be the clutch for as long as one doesn't know the immensity of the wall they're looking up to.

Mert gave his signal to Lacritta.

"Lacritta, begin with your unique."

"A-Alright! —Pon! Unique Skill The Fabled Spire «The Four Illusive Tower of Shield»!"

Lacritta was ahead in making the first move.

Again, a giant structure—four huge towers rose up on the path ahead of Class-9 and Class-10 as soon as Lacritta activated her unique skill.

A wave of speechlessness washed over Keel for a moment when he saw an almost sky-reaching tower, dominating his entire view.

"These tricks aren't going to work again! —Don't be confused, this is another illusion. Blast it with area magic, and then move to the main target! You're allowed to use second-order skills!"

Keel now believed Lacritta's magic were all illusions.

The illusions weak point were AoE attacks that disrupt their formation. This was how the earlier «The Great Mirage Racoon» was made to disappear. From earlier precedents, Keel concluded this was an illusion, and not some makeshift structures created by low-ranking jobs.

"Jay!"

"Gotach! Burn, burn, and disappear! —«Pyrokinesis»!"

At the signal, Class-10's leader Jay manipulated flames to appear and converge in one place until it reached good enough size and hurled it toward the towers, assured that this should break down that illusion.

Yet, the tower that was supposed to burn down remained standing.

Keel's eyes peeled back at the situation.

"Ridiculous! It's still standing after facing a third-order magic attack? Was it not strong enough? Wait, does it have resistance to magic... no, nevermind. In that case, start with any strong physical attack."

Keel got a grip on himself, and commanded the bow user «Huntsman», specialised in range attack, to take a shot on towers. The «Huntsman» used his unique skill and launched it toward the tower. Subsequently, the two unique skills clashed, and the tower showed signs of resisting the arrow.

In the struggle of two uniques, the tower remained at the end.

"What the heck, are you saying it’s corporeal?!"

"Bingo."

Astounded realising the truth, Keel murmured when suddenly a voice echoed from behind him, affirming his guess.

"Wha—!"

Keel put up his guard in panic at the foreign voice, albeit he couldn't make it in time.

"Slow, «Lightning Flash»!"

"Gaaargghh!"

Like a quick draw of a sword, Iai, a lightning attribute streak cut through the air and directly struck Keel.

The attacker was Reglam, a member of Class-8. He used the moment when Keel's attention was occupied by the tower, took a detour to arrive at the rear of two alliance classes—Keel was commanding the alliance from the rear end—and promptly caught him in pincer attack.

"Keel!"

Jay screamed. The members of Class-10 turn to save Keel, but the distance was quite something to make it in time.

"Take the bonus—«Zap Strike»!"

"«So—aarrgh!"

Reglam, meanwhile, continued with his pursuit, and launched a second attack, bringing down Keel's HP to red zone. Keep tried to somersault his way out of the range, but couldn't surpass Reglam's speed.

Reglam had gripped Keel in a perfect helpless moment. Even if others tried to help him out, they would still lag behind, while the person himself was stunned by continuous strike. Just a bit more, and Keel would be eliminated.

...Everyone's heart had come to their throat, believing this was the end for Keel.

"Final strike—«Roaring Thunder Sword»! ......What?"

Reglam's decisive strike cut down the remaining silver of Keel's HP. But the instant the HP hit zero, Keel exploded, and blew away Reglam from the resultant shockwave.

"Haaaa!! *Huff* *Huff* Phew, I didn't believe I would have to use this skill."

"Not dead? Hmm, sounds like some strange skill's work huh."

Keel appeared alive, however his breathing was rough, and only had 1 HP left.

Reglam glanced at the last silver HP of otherwise sound Keel. A surprise for him considering he had affirmatively delivered the final strike. He readied the sword once again while backstepping and avoiding the counterattack from Keel's comrades.

He was about to follow up, but the opportunity was soon lost as the rest of alliance members finally made it to Keel and covered for him.

"Hmm, a Last Save skill with auto-initiative counterattack? There are quite a few, but which one is it..."

"—«Soul Medic»!"

"I see, «Soul Eater» huh? Then the explosion must have been from «A Soul's Final Brilliance» skill."

Noticing the skill activated by Keel, Reglam guessed the job and earlier skill of his.

With a cooldown of one day, «A Soul's Final Brilliance» would automatically activate when receiving a fatal blow, preserving 1 HP of the user, while initiating an explosion against the attacker.

Regardless, Reglam realised he had lost the initiative here.

"Are you alright, Keel? Damn, why didn't I expect a surprise attack?! Chase after him! «Telekinesis Gun».

Several students immediately jumped at Reglam.

Reglam gracefully avoided the attacks as he opened the distance with a backstep, and left a warning for them.

"Heh, are you sure you should be focusing on me?"

"Huh?!"

Jay hurriedly turned around to look at the situation, and glimpsed a rain of spells and skill from the direction of four towers, and of course, shot forth by Class-8.

The wave of destruction brought forth by onslaught ultimately swallowed the Class-9's tank.
