Chapter 231.1
Chapter 231.1
The sudden declaration by the captured knight that he was a prince surprised not only Gekke, but also Neurath and Schunzel, who were around Welner.
In many ways, this was an unexpected statement, so even Welner was not without surprise.
Welner turned his gaze not to the prince in captivity, but to Gekke.
“Congratulations Sir Gekke, you’ve just got yourself a hefty reward.” (Welner)
“Ah, ah okay.” (Gekke)
As expected, Gekke’s reaction was simple. He had not expected that to be the first words out of Welner.
Welner took off the sword from his waist and handed it to Gekke in a light tone.
“The official payment will come later, but here is your reward for now. Take this as a reward for now.” (Welner)
“…Okay.” (Gekke)
Welner handed him his spare sword.“Valcay, move to capture the rest of the Farlitz knights. Point out that we have captured their prince. Do not hurt those who surrender, and show no mercy to those who resist or flee.”
“…Focus! Continue the assault.” (Valcay)
At Welner’s command, Valcay also shouted after returning to his senses. The surrounding knights also rushed at the remaining Farlitz knights.
The man, who claimed to be the prince of Farlitz, was watching the scene almost in a daze. Finally, he returned to his senses and raised his voice once more to complain.
“Oh, hey, you…!” (Farlitz Prince)
“Right now your men who are trying to escape over there are more important than your Highness who is being held captive here.” (Welner)
Without even looking at him, Welner pointed it out to him.
In Welner’s opinion, the normal citizens would be in trouble if a group of Farlitz knights turned into bandits and took over a village somewhere.
The reason he rewarded Gekke on the spot was because he remembered the anecdote of Nobunaga Oda, who would hand over his footwear to his men who had killed an enemy general on the spot.
Even though Welner had given Gekke a sword as a reward, it was not his main weapon, and he hardly used it in battles.
However, there was no doubt that seeing Welner who offered an immediate reward in front of them, not only motivated the other mercenaries and adventurers but also the knights.
On top of that, a sword was a sign of knighthood. Thus, those around Welner were astonished that the captain offered it as a reward without hesitation.
Bain Kingdom soldiers ran with a shout and attacked the Farlitz Army, which was standing in front of a wall of horses. Some of the Farlitz knights even gave up resisting from the start, and started to escape.
A short but fierce battle ensued, with the resisting enemy knights killed, captured or surrendered. A knight was selected to watch over the self-proclaimed prince.
After giving those instructions and taking a breather, Welner let out an “Ah”.
“Is something wrong?” (Neurath)
“Well, I forgot to ask for that prince’s name. I’ll check with the captives first.” (Welner)
Neurath, Schunzel, and the others looked half surprised and half dismayed, wondering if he really wasn’t interested.
Welner wanted to forget about this situation which was causing him a headache, especially since it involved the prince of a different country, but he could not really complain to anyone.
Moreover, the fact that the captured knight had admitted that he was a Farlitz prince suddenly raised a question in Welner’s mind. Why did he admit it so easily? To save his life?
Werner was lost in thought, unable to grasp the true nature of the strange feeling he had felt, when Valcay called out to him in a confused tone.
What do you think?
