Chapter 333: Residents Of The Tower (2)
Chapter 333: Residents Of The Tower (2)
The supervisors of the tower, guardians of the layers, were fundamentally starved for stimulation.
The tower granted climbers an infinite life, but it did not provide the ability to endure that infinite life.
Once experienced, stimuli tended to become dull, and a long lifespan forced one to repeat similar experiences over and over.
“Ha ha ha! You really did it! Huh? I knew you had some strength, but this is beyond my expectations!”
Here, there was a beautiful fairy with red eyes and golden hair. A fairy’s lifespan was usually between 1,000 to 2,000 years.
But this fairy was already 20,077 years old, so it was clear that her threshold for stimulation had absurdly increased.
“Wow, amazing! Beyond expectations! Honestly, I thought you’d die halfway!”
Yuriyuri seemed not to care about being held in someone’s grip, expressing pure admiration.
Was she not afraid of death? Shiron momentarily harbored such a question but soon dismissed it.
If you were a resident of the tower, especially one in a position to oversee tests, it was not strange to regard death as something trivial.Climbing the tower always came with associated risks. Death, separation, and other emotions and pains must be endured. The fairy hadn’t become the master of the tower or a demon king, but she had at least climbed to the top.
While she was marveling at Lucia and Shiron, her enthusiasm suddenly cut off.
“Ugh, idiots.”
Yuriyuri’s gaze, which had been watching Lucia catch her breath, shifted to the corner of the examination room.
Unlike the platform filled with cold corpses, there were people here who had hardened up seeing those who had already fallen.
They were scared.
Even without looking closely at their faces, you could tell.
At first, they might have been eagerly looking for an opportunity, but seeing those deemed of higher rank than themselves being defeated so easily, their spirits were quickly broken.
“You thought they’d die halfway, so is the test over now?”
Shiron looked in the same direction as the fairy. His appearance was immaculate, without a speck of dirt, yet at the tip of his holy sword, hot and dirty blood dripped.
Yuriyuri responded with an eerie, twirling laugh, though her tone remained frivolous and loud.
“Yes! It’s obvious, no point in fighting more!”
“…I thought you’d say to kill every last one.”
“Too much?! How do you see me?”
“…Your tone is really annoying.”
“Have you never met a fairy outside? They all talk like this!”
She continued chattering away. Even when Lucia frowned and showed her annoyance, Yuriyuri laughed noisily.
“I’ve met fairies before, but you’re the noisiest and craziest among them.”
“It’s because of you guys! You messed up my test completely! My head’s filled with blood because of that!”
“…Oh, really?”
“Oh, of course! I mean it in a good way, not a bad one!”
Yuriyuri cheerfully replied, then glared at the fallen bodies and the remaining debris in the examination room.
“Still not leaving.”
She looked down on them with a contemptuous gaze. Although the tower’s rules dictated that test supervisors maintained neutrality, she had expectations for those who climbed to the 77th floor on their own.
But great expectations led to great disappointment. Moreover, having watched such a one-sided fight, her disappointment grew immeasurably.
“Okay! The test ends here today! The next test will start again in a year!”
With a small wave of her hand, the participants exchanged glances. Were these fools, who hadn’t even passed, going to disobey the supervisor’s command?
“Hey, you guys? What are you waiting for?”
“…Wasn’t the next test supposed to be in a month?”
Someone from the back of the room raised their hand. Apparently, they had the courage to argue with the supervisor’s words but not to attack.
“It was supposed to be in a month, but so many participants died, right? I like a lively test room, so I decided it’ll be in a year.”
“…”
“Then, consider our conversation finished! Hurry up and get out!”
Her tone was still foolish, and she looked ridiculous in Lucia’s grip.
Yet, an eerie chill filled the examination room. Realizing the supervisor’s mood was sour, the participants quickly left their seats.
Lucia quietly watched the situation unfold.
‘Thought she was just a fucking amateur, but she’s not to be underestimated.’
Initially, Lucia thought there might be something to her since she was a supervisor of the tower’s tests.
Then, she was treated like a doll in Lucia’s hand, yet didn’t get angry or complain, showing the fairy’s unique strength in weakness.
However,
The attitude shown so far was definitely different.
This bitch of a fairy was fully utilizing her authority to send people to the next floor.
She knew how to use her head, and despite her body being on the verge of bursting with just a little pressure, she didn’t even seem to care about that fact, making the atmosphere somewhat strange.
“Is it over?”
“Sorry for making you wait?”
Yuriyuri answered Lucia with a bright smile. She seemed to have quite the fondness for Lucia, not even asking to be released from her grip.
“Yeah, I watched your fight well. Originally, I wanted you to fight alone… but whatever? Red mostly handled it anyway.”
“Are you saying not to kill those who attack?”
“No way. Idiots who attack without knowing better deserve to die.”
Saying so, Yuriyuri looked at one of the rolling corpses with contempt. It was from the Cyclops who first attacked Shiron.
“How do the lower floors manage things? They want to climb the tower but are too scared to face Red, so they attack the weaker ones next to them. Sigh.”
Yuriyuri genuinely pitied them.
And then she admired again.
‘People from outside the tower are indeed interesting.’
Now that all the demons from the Demon Realm were contained within the tower, most of those who climbed it were born inside the tower.
Their origin was determined by the layer they were born on, but regardless, they had grown up with the tower’s rules ingrained in them.
They never resisted the test supervisors, dedicating most of their lives to climbing the tower, which resulted in a uniform mindset and value system.
“Anyway! That’s it! Congratulations to those who passed! Just go up!”
Swish! Swish! Rumble!
As the fairy spoke, stairs unfolded from the air and descended. A black hole appeared in the ceiling, and a breeze started blowing as if it connected to another space.
“What are you doing? Not going up?”
The fairy said this to those who didn’t move even after the stairs were ready.
“Do you want to take the test again? Or…”
She paused, looking at those waiting for their turn, as if expecting something.
“Ah-ha?”
Her gaze stopped on someone. Among the crowd, a demon with horns and wings was observing the situation with dignity.
The Demon King’s Princess.
“Oops! I was so caught up in the fun I forgot about the princess!”
“…”
“Princess, please go up quickly! I want to record this and have a laugh later. Bye-bye!”
“……That was my plan anyway.”
The girl called the princess spoke coldly as she stepped onto the stairs. For a moment, she sent a sharp look towards golden eyes.
“Hello.”
“…?”
‘What’s this?’
Lucia stared blankly at the girl who briefly waved her hand.
‘Was that greeting meant for me?’
“Red.”
“What, why.”
“Won’t you let go of my hand now? If you keep holding me, we won’t be able to go up to the next floor.”
“Oh.”
Lucia released her grip upon hearing the comment. The fairy stretched, loosening her stiff body.
By then, everyone had left via the stairs, leaving only three behind, excluding Yuriyuri - Shiron’s party.
“So, you three are together?”
“…What more do you have to say?”
“I’m in a very good mood right now. I want to give you something, but being a supervisor, I can’t actually give you anything, which is a bit of a shame.”
“…What do you want to do?”
As Seira mumbled with suspicion, the fairy flew up and perched on Lucia’s head.
“I’ll praise you for not killing me.”
Then, she patted Lucia’s head.
“What’s this? Are you messing with me?”
“No, not at all. I just hope you guys make it to the top of the tower.”
“…”
“If you want to climb to the top, don’t kill the supervisors.”
“Why?”
“Because you’ll become the supervisor of that layer, and you’ll be bound to it forever.”
“…”
Lucia got goosebumps. Even with her limited understanding, it wasn’t hard to grasp what the fairy was saying.
As Lucia understood it, this fairy had killed the former supervisor of the 77th floor.
“Oh, of course, this is after you’ve reached the top of the tower!”
“…What does that mean…”
“So! Even if you get to the top, you’ll still be stuck as a boring supervisor!”
“…”
“Let’s go now.”
“Oh, okay!”
Shiron said this as he walked up the stairs. Lucia hurriedly followed him.
‘What, if you kill a supervisor, you’re bound to the tower?’
Lucia stared at the back of Shiron’s head with a serious expression.
‘We’re just supposed to kill the apostles, right?’
What do you think?
