Returning to the Mysterious Era

Chapter 279 - Crash into it!

Chapter 279 - Crash into it!

Their operation against the Blood Spirit Society was very quickly proven to be highly effective. Thirty out of seventy-five targets in Li Wei's lingering attachment for revenge had already been eliminated. They had all been enemies involved in the ruthless massacre of the Wind Elephant Sect. It didn’t matter to Cassius if their bodies or auras had changed. He had always planned to kill every Blood Spirit Society member he came across.

What if an assassin was hiding in the crowd? He would kill them all. What if a rat escaped into the sewers? Naturally, he would exterminate every single rat and clean out all the filth.

His lingering attachment continually reminded him of his specific targets. But when someone was strong enough, there was no need for complicated tricks. One only needed to raise their fists and charge toward the target. Strength would always be the sharpest blade.

A few minutes later, they arrived at Benteng Manor, located in the outskirts of the southern district. A Ring Dream car came to a halt under the shadows of the trees.

Three figures cast their own shadows beneath the fragmented moonlight on the path as they approached the gates of the manor. They made no attempt to conceal themselves, and walked calmly in the breeze with an air of confidence.

Before long, the Blood Spirit Society members patrolling the manor spotted the trio from a distance and issued a warning. However, it had no effect, so one of them went to draw his handgun.

But just as his hand reached for his gun, the three figures that had been seventy to eighty meters away were suddenly right in front of him, like ghosts! Their eyes were either cold, filled with murderous intent, or cruel and merciless. But they all shared one thing in common — utter indifference. It was as if he and his companions were nothing more than meat on a chopping block, waiting to be slaughtered.

"Damn it!" The young man's heart flared with anger.

He was about to raise his gun, but before he could, the three figures flashed again, like the wind, and broke through the patrol line.

"So fast..." The young man muttered to himself in disbelief.

Thud, thud, thud, thud...

The sound of something falling to the ground echoed in his ears. When he turned, he saw that his companions were standing stiffly in place like puppets. Their flesh was peeling off at an alarming speed, and a moment later, their bodies collapsed, leaving only skeletons that gleamed eerily under the moonlight.

"What..." The young man tried to speak, but no sound came out. He looked down to find himself in the same condition—just another skeleton in a pool of blood.

Oh, no wonder.

That was his final thought.

The iron gates of Benteng Manor were smashed open by a powerful force. The center of the gate caved in and spun wildly until it crashed through a wall. Cassius and the other two forced their way in with brute strength.

The Blood Spirit Society had stationed a significant number of combat-capable members here, so they quickly responded. Figures rushed out from all directions, their numbers swelling rapidly. Some were burly men, while others were slender youths. Some were even beautiful women and children.

The only thing they had in common were their blood-red eyes, like wolves hungry for flesh. The longer they waited, the more of them gathered.

Cassius scanned the crowd, feeling a slight disappointment. It seemed they didn’t hold an Indestructible-Rank member among their number.

He whispered to the two beside him, "There's no big fish here. Let's make it quick and move to the next location."

"Agreed," replied Feng Liusi and Saint Feinan, nodding in unison.

At that moment, the ground thundered, as if struck by lightning, leaving behind three deep, cracked footprints. Three sharp spears pierced into the crowd.

Five minutes later, three figures strolled out of the gates of Benteng Manor.

Cassius shook off the half-congealed blood on his coat as the cold wind blew past. He frowned slightly, as if bothered by the feeling of uncleanliness. Feng Liusi, on the other hand, looked like he had been soaked in blood from head to toe, but he didn't seem to care, as though he had experienced it many times before. The last of the trio, Saint Feinan remained spotless, still exuding his usual elegant composure.

He used a crystal-blue whip, so there was no need for him to engage in close combat.

Feng Liusi glanced at Cassius, whose eyes were half-closed. "There are still three more. Should we split up or take them out together?"

"Let's stick together," Cassius said as he opened the door of the Ring Dream car and took a seat. His hands, still as pristine as white jade, rested on his knees. "We'll be more effective hunting Indestructible-Rank targets together. If we split up, these cockroach-like creatures might survive."

"Alright," Feng Liusi and Saint Feinan agreed as they climbed into the front seats.

At 11:10 p.m., at the fifth location — Colin Villa.

A car had just slowed to a stop on the roadside outside the villa, when the villa started to echo with screams. From time to time, shadowy figures could be seen flying into the air and falling within the dark walls of the villa.

"Damn it, not a single top executive from the Blood Spirit Society?" Feng Liusi's face darkened as he stared at the bodies scattered around him. He grabbed a still-breathing Blood Spirit Society member and slapped him hard across the face. "Where are your Indestructible-Rank leaders? Don't you guard your strongholds? This is ridiculous! You’re all just a bunch of worthless fish!"

The Blood Spirit Society member was on the verge of tears. He was merely a Decay-Rank underling; how could he know where the Indestructible-Rank executives were in Kura City? "I-I really don't know! Only the president and the two vice presidents... They're the only ones who know where they are..."

Pop!

A Red Mist Finger Gun shot through his brain, tearing it apart.

"We're not going to get anything out of them. It looks like the Blood Spirit Society only has three Indestructible-Rank members, and we've already killed one of the vice presidents in East Sea City. The remaining two... are going to be hard to find."

Cassius sighed lightly. Although he had wanted to reassure himself, he still felt somewhat disappointed. In just an hour and a half, they had raided and ambushed five of the Blood Spirit Society's outposts. Some locations had numerous members, while others only had a token presence. Altogether, they had killed eleven Undying-Rank members and ninety-six Decay-Rank members. The harvest wasn't bad, but it still fell short.

Cassius was currently 2.6 percent away from reaching the Qi level of an experienced combat artist. In his last battle, it had taken the life force vibration energy of three Undying-Rank members just to increase his Qi by 0.7 percent.

If he did simple mathematics, the life force vibration energy from eleven Undying-Rank members could only enhance his Qi by 2.56 percent. Moreover, the effect was diminishing, so even with these eleven Undying-Rank members, he might not even reach a 2 percent increase.

As for the Decay-Rank members, they were practically useless to Cassius now. Even though he had collected ninety-six of them, they would barely make a difference. It seemed that his plan to break through to the level of an experienced combat artist had to be put on hold.

Cassius felt a bit frustrated, as he left Colin Villa. He even felt a slight headache forming. He immediately started to balance the relationship between his Killer Persona and the other two major personas by practicing the three core principles. Though his eyes were closed and he couldn't see his surroundings, he could feel the car moving. Feng Liusi had clearly started driving back.

As he listened to the engine hum, Cassius slowly adjusted his mental state, calming the urge for further bloodshed within his body. Gradually, he felt much better and slowly opened his eyes. He noticed the car driving through Turing Street, with tonight's first target, the Roman Hotel, located right on the main street. As they drove straight along, the iconic tall building at the intersection came into view. The street was quiet, seemingly with no one aware of the situation at the hotel.

On the other side of the road, a black Goldfish-Mouth car with bright yellow headlights was slowly approaching. As the two cars came closer, the headlights made the intersection exceptionally bright, casting shadows on the gravel. Cassius, in his Golem Life Magnetic Field state, suddenly felt his eyelid twitch. His eyes shot open.

He suddenly snapped, "Crash into it!"

"Huh? Alright!" Feng Liusi was momentarily stunned, but quickly floored the accelerator. The Ring Dream car sped up abruptly, heading straight for the other vehicle.

Inside the black Goldfish-Mouth car, a dignified, sharp-looking gentleman was resting with his eyes closed. He had a Golden Purple Wood Cane in his hands and exuded a sense of power and authority. This was Adam, the second-in-command of the Blood Spirit Society. He ranked even above Dino, who was stationed in East Sea City. It made sense, since Kura City was the true location of the Tulip Antique Exhibition, and the battle for the Kupan Demon Box would take place here. Although the temporary Blood Nest in East Sea City was important, it was somewhat secondary.

Kura City was where the real strength was focused. Adam had been troubled recently due to some bad news they had received that morning. The entire Blood Nest in East Sea City had been wiped out, leaving only a few stray survivors. Moreover, Dino, the Vice President of the Blood Spirit Society, had gone missing without a trace. The Blood Spirit Society's forces in East Sea City had suffered an unprecedented blow.

The situation was complicated by the involvement of the Blade Demon, Garoro of the Gate organization. The battle site was exceptionally gruesome. The Blood Spirit Society had determined internally that Dino's chances of survival were only around 30 percent.

Adam had spent the day ignoring the surveillance of the Black Ops Agency while trying to contact the Gate Organization forces in Kura City. However, he had gotten no clear response, as Garoro was gravely injured and unconscious.

No one could piece together the full details of what had transpired that day. An Indestructible-Rank Dead Blood's life hanging in the balance was a severe loss of combat power, which was troubling enough. Then, another issue arose in the evening. Adam had some instructions for the Blood Spirit Society members stationed at the Roman Hotel, but no one had answered the phone.

Feeling uneasy, he decided to check on the situation himself. Preoccupied with these issues during the drive, Adam kept his eyes closed, pondering which mysterious force was targeting the Blood Spirit Society. They were usually discreet in their operations, but even when they had to act on a large scale, they were ruthless and left no loose ends.

They shouldn't have any overtly powerful enemies.

"Could the Black Ops Agency have finally set their sights on us?" Adam had just started to entertain this line of thought when he suddenly heard a loud bang. The car jolted, and his back slammed against the seat.

"Damn it!" cursed the Blood Spirit Society member driving the car. He rolled down the window and spoke coldly, "What kind of driver are you?! Are you trying to get yourselves killed?!"

No one responded. The Ring Dream car, which had collided with the Goldfish-Mouth car, remained still, with only the sound of the cold wind blowing through.

A click sounded as the rear door opened. Sensing something, Adam opened his eyes and looked out.

A blond young man with a refined face stepped out of the car, his lips curling into a faint, almost imperceptible smile. Although the smile was bright, Adam felt an inexplicable sense of disgust. He rolled down his window and was immediately hit by the exceedingly familiar smell of blood carried by the wind. Adam's expression changed. That was the aura of Dead Blood.

The youth in front of him carried an overwhelming scent of death, indicating he had killed many Dead Bloods recently, and possibly even within the past few hours!

"Hahaha, what a pleasant surprise."

The blond youth kept smiling, seemingly unfazed by the driver's cursing. He pressed his brow in excitement, as waves of Qi gushed from his pores. A massive burst of energy surged into the air like a blazing torch, causing the surrounding air to ripple outwards in waves.

Adam seemed unfazed as he blinked and lowered the leg he had perched atop his knee.

"Hmph, so you're the reason we lost contact with the Roman Hotel? Your aura is indeed impressive, but..."

A brown-black boot slowly stepped onto the ground with a thud. Saint Feinan exited the passenger seat, drawing a crystalline blue whip from his waist. A terrifying chill erupted from every corner of his being, tinting the tips of his black hair with a hint of blue. For a brief moment, it seemed as if ice crystals were falling from the sky.

"Oh? Seems like we found our target. Not bad luck," he remarked as the whip in his hand gradually transformed into a cross sword.

Adam's eyelids twitched violently. He lowered his crossed arms, scoffing. "Hah, just two of you..."

At that moment, a massive crimson vulture emerged from the Ring Dream car's driver seat, closing the door with its menacing talons. Its murderous, torch-like eyes locked onto Adam.

Feng Liusi's voice was gravelly like sandpaper as he laughed. "Heh, looks like our luck's pretty good. The fat lamb walked right toward us."

The air seemed to hum as the battle aura of the three seasoned combat artists unfurled, colliding and overlapping with each other. Chaotic whirlpools formed in the air, and a gust of wind howled, as if ghosts were wailing high above. It was chilling.

Adam's eyelids twitched uncontrollably, like a drummer beating on a snare. In the eyes of true experts, the overwhelming force crashing down upon them was like a tidal wave, towering three stories high. It was as heavy as a mountain, and as violent as a stormy sea. It radiated pure, unbridled malice and killing intent.

Even the previously arrogant Blood Spirit Society driver was now scared. He turned his head and said, "Vice President, we... Eh? Where did he go?!"

The plush back seat was now empty, with only a nearly crushed cane lying limp on the blanket.

When the driver looked through the rear window, he could still see a figure running off in panic, his leather shoes scattered haphazardly on the ground.

"I..."

Boom! Crash!

Three figures pierced through the Goldfish-Mouth car, sending it flipping through the air before it exploded. Three streaks of light, two red and one blue, shot out like comets, rapidly closing in on the fleeing black dot ahead of them.
