Chapter 178 The Awakening of the Dreamshroud (1)
Third Person's POV
"And in return, I beg you to please annihilate that boy! Torture him for eternity! Make those women your slaves!"
Ethan's eyes narrowed as he watched the scene unfold.
The creature stood before the altar with its form shrouded in shadow.
A gleaming bronze halberd jutted from its back and Ethan recognized that weapon instantly.@@novelbin@@
The goblin commander trembled with zealous fervor. Then, with unwavering determination, it gripped the halberd and raised it high.
Ethan's eyes widened as an unbelievable realization struck in his mind.
No way—
The sickening sound of metal slicing through flesh echoed through the valley and was followed by the thud of the commander's head hitting the ground.
Inky black blood gushed from the severed neck like a fountain and drenched the crimson skull in a macabre baptism.
The nauseating stench of iron and decay filled the air as the thick liquid oozed down the altar's surface.
Then, the valley trembled.
A sudden, ominous laughter echoed from the skull and reverberated through the air like a death knell.
The sound was unnatural and twisted. It was layered and seemed like a chorus of maddened multiple voices speaking as one.
Ethan's vision blurred as his head spun from the sheer pressure of its presence and that maddening laugh.
But he forced himself to focus as he knew that what he was about to witness was something rare and very dangerous but definitely something beyond mortal comprehension.
The hollow sockets of the skull pulsed and burned with eerie red light. Then, an ancient and cruel voice slithered into the air.
"Hehehehe… I am pleased with your sacrifice, little goblin."
The voice was neither loud nor soft but it seemed to be everywhere and surrounded him like a creeping shadow.
"In return, I shall devour your soul. Rejoice as you shall have the honor of contributing your puny little soul to the strength of this great Zarghul ."
The light in the skull's sockets flared violently. The dark smoke that had once lazily drifted toward the altar suddenly surged and was sucked into its depths with terrifying force.
And then—
"Finally!!! I have entered this world! Hahaha!"
Ethan stiffened. The malicious glee in the entity's laughter made his blood run cold.
He had faced horrors in both his lives but this… this was something else entirely.
Yet, even as dread clawed at him, the craving in his blood only intensified.
His gaze locked onto the skull. It was waking up and seemingly coming alive.
And for reasons he couldn't yet understand, every fiber of his being screamed that he needed to take its power for himself.
But how?
Heart pounding, Ethan remained perfectly still and he watched as the abyss before him threatened to consume everything in its path.
---
The crimson beam connecting the skull to the Blood Moon suddenly grew brighter and pulsed with malevolent energy as its light cast an eerie crimson glow over the valley.
Ethan's instincts screamed at him to retreat, but the primal hunger within him that he finally recognized urged him forward.
It was the pull of his dormant demonic bloodline.
He still remembered the demon face's boast about his bloodline that supposedly originated from the great LucentVoid Clan of the Hell Spire Great World.1
He also remembered the Nightmare Dream Ascension Technique which was still stored inside his memories.1
It had been granted by the Eterna Nexus to him when he had first met his Master in the Dark Forest five years ago.
Is my demon bloodline—no, my devil bloodline, as that demon face called it finally awakening? Does it crave something from that cursed skull… Zarghul?
A sudden excitement mixed with apprehension coursed inside him at the thought of his bloodline awakening.
But he soon calmed his mind as he remembered the problem that the Eterna Nexus had warned him from practicing the Nightmare Dream Ascension Technique.
Supposedly, mixed-blood practitioners might encounter significant challenges when they reach advanced stages. So, they were discouraged from practicing it.
But I can still have some innate magical abilities from my devil bloodline as it supposedly traces back to a great clan from a great world.
Ethan snapped back to the present and shoved aside the whirlwind of thoughts racing through his mind. This was no ordinary enemy and he couldn't afford a single distraction.
The skull was no mere object but was a projection of an entity that was most likely not of this world.
It pulsed with an eerie and malevolent presence and seemed to be a being of pure dark soul energy, born from despair, agony, and centuries of seething resentment.
The goblin commander's sacrifice had roused it from its slumber, and now its hollow sockets glowed with a sinister red light.
Then, those burning red orbs that were mocking imitations of eyes suddenly swiveled toward Ethan's hiding place.
A chill ran down his spine. His instincts screamed danger, and his hair stood on end.
It was as if an ancient malevolent viper had locked onto him and branded him as its prey.
Yet his trembling wasn't just from fear but it was from something far deeper.
His LucentVoid bloodline which had remained dormant always, now stirred violently and reacted to the overwhelming surge of dark soul energy radiating from the skull.
His very soul identified the entity before him as both a mortal threat and an undeniable catalyst.
Then, the skull chuckled, and a hideous, grating sound slithered through the air like a chorus of tormented whispers.
"Hehehehe…"
"You… I can feel it. Your bloodline calls to me. You are the one the astral realm has warned me about… the one who could either annihilate me… or become my greatest feast."
Ethan's grip tightened around his broken saber as he crouched steadily on the thick branch of the tree while his heart pounded like a war drum.
He exhaled in a calm, cold, and unyielding voice.
"If you have come for me," he said as his fearless gaze locked onto the entity's.
