Chapter 187 The Final Showdown
Third Person's POV
The cursed flames hissed and recoiled as they struggled to maintain dominance. The bony knight's momentum faltered for the first time.
And Ethan capitalized on this moment of respite.
In one swift motion, he twisted his blade and redirected the broadsword's force away from him.
The moment the opening appeared, he drove his saber forward and aimed for the knight's exposed side.
White flames from the saber's tip bit into the knight's blackened armor.
The impact wasn't enough to destroy it outright, but it burned deep and forced Zarghul's avatar to retreat a step.
Ethan exhaled.
The gray Netherflame flickering on his skin was now extinguished and was replaced by the sacred white fire. The black burn mark on his neck? Well, it was already fading.
Zarghul's skull let out a low, rasping growl in anger and Ethan could feel the reason for it.
All its ministrations and traps seemed to fail in front of a weak Elemental Sea being in front of him.
Ethan rolled his shoulders and tested his range of movement.
The smirk on his face returned, but his tone remained calm, and measured.
"Close," he murmured.
"I will admit that."
His grip on his saber tightened.
"But now… it's my turn."
The white fire around him flared even brighter and illuminated the night's darkness.
Zarghul's knight tensed as its grip adjusted on its sword. The next exchange was going to be even faster and even deadlier.
But a scene stopped Ethan's momentum.
The crimson skull on the ground suddenly shattered into a swirling mass of black smoke.

The bony knight in front of him shattered and its fragments flew back to the altar and coalesced.
Its bones snapped into place as it formed into a towering figure of at least nine feet clad in jagged, blackened armor.
The armor was etched with grotesque carvings and the faces of the tormented were staring outward with their expressions frozen in silent agony.
Zarghul's skull now sat atop the knight's shoulders its hollow eyes smoldered like red lava.
In its skeletal hands, the knight gripped a massive gray broadsword which was even bigger than before.
Its surface was laced with pulsing runes and thrummed with a raw curse energy even stronger than before.
At this moment, Ethan knew that this was the final form of this avatar in this world. If he could defeat it then his victory was set in stone.
But its aura was even stronger than before and was already crossing into the Sky realm.
Ethan's normal methods and moves had already stopped working long before and he had been fighting with his newly awakened devil bloodline but he could feel the sacred white fire fading slowly and he knew that it would not last long.
Then, a thought struck him.
Yeah, the Astral Purge Essence!!.
The Eterna Nexus had revealed its existence to him and marked it as the bane of this Void Nihility Demon.
But how do I execute it?
Zarghul masked its true nature and feigned arrogance and mock rage but Ethan now knew better that it was deceptive and calculating.
One misstep and that would be his last. As for relying on the blood slave that was long out of his mind as his whole focus and mind power was strained on this battle.
Suddenly, a spark of realization ignited in his mind.
A plan took shape and despite the monstrous form of this Nihilty Demon that was even more terrifying than before, Ethan stepped forward.
With no hesitation, he launched his attack and seized the initiative before the demon could react.
The towering black knight loomed and its jagged armor groaned as it took a thunderous step forward.
The Nihility Demon's crimson skull leered from atop its shoulders and its molten eyes dripped with unreal malice.
"You think that fire can save you?" Zarghul sneered and raised its cursed broadsword whose surface still hummed with vile energy.
"I will burn this entire world, and it will start with your bones."
But Ethan didn't flinch.
With a sharp breath, he lunged and angled his body downward as he descended like a meteor toward the demon knight standing upon the flat mountain peak.
His white flames surged and trailed behind his saber like the blazing tail of a comet. It illuminated the shattered altar below as he closed the distance in an unstoppable charge.
The curved blade clashed against the knight's broad sword and sparks of light and shadow erupted in the dark night like fireworks.
Chains erupted from his free hand and this time its obsidian links were wreathed in white fire as it lashed around the knight's armored wrist.
Due to his sudden move, he yanked hard forcing his blade off-course, and drove his hot white saber toward the crimson skull.
Zarghul roared and a shrill shriek resembling the wail of the damned erupted from its mouth as the black knight's skeletal fist swung backhanded.
Ethan twisted fast but the blow caught his ribs.
He flew backward and skidded through ash as his side smoldered with gray embers.
His whole shirt was burned to a crisp revealing his chiseled body while he protected his body at the same time from the cursed gray Netherflame with his sacred fire.
"Pathetic," Zarghul hissed. The knight advanced with slow steps while it dragged the broadsword deep into the black stone, carving arcs of corrosive mist.
He knew that it was an intimidation tactic that this Zarghul guy loved doing. The reanimated goblin commander controlled by it performed the same move.
To feign weakness, Ethan staggered and let his white flames dim. Due to the low reserves of his newly awakened sacred fire, the act appeared even more real in the demon's eyes.
He pretended to limp and his chains retracted weakly. The demon knight seized the opening as its blade sliced downward.
Ethan barely parried and the forceful impact drove him to his knees.
A second strike grazed his shoulder and the Netherflame seared his flesh.
What do you think?
