Chapter 99 - 98: The Real Villain

Chapter 99: Chapter 98: The Real Villain

As an assassin, the Wasp Knight should have the composure of one, which meant staying cool under any circumstance.

But today, the Wasp Knight’s mood was like riding on a jet plane, one that eventually crashes—such drastic mood swings almost gave her a heart attack.

The cause of all this stemmed from… the various livestreams Jiang Qiao showed the Wasp Knight.

The battle situations broadcasted by the Divine Spirit livestreamers directly reflected the state of the Divine Fragment War.

In order to lessen the hatred of the three Knights watching the livestream, Jiang Qiao did not show them the livestream where the five major guilds besieged Queen Mei. Instead, he focused on tracking the dubious actions of the Knight in red.

The chief reporter was someone who would add milk with no extra charge.

...

Initially, the Wasp Knight was shrouded in the anger of betrayal. As she watched the series of livestreams, all she could think about was capturing the Knight in red and torturing him mercilessly.

This fury reached its peak when Jiang Qiao pulled up a livestream dubbed ‘The Strongest Combat Mage among the Divine Spirits’ for the Wasp Knight and the Lion Heart Knight to watch…

The audacity of the Knight in red to dare touch their noble Queen Mei, especially his action of grabbing her by the neck! @@novelbin@@

Had Jiang Qiao not intervened, both the Lion Heart Knight and the Wasp Knight might have launched a flurry of punches at the floating livestream image.

The overwhelming rage transformed into an inexplicable sense of poignancy once the Wasp Knight saw images of Divine Spirits dressed in the Five Knights’ armor rushing to save Queen Mei.

She shouldn’t feel this way, rationality told the Wasp Knight; if not for these invading Divine Spirits, she would have been beside the Queen protecting her right now.

It was quite exhilarating to see former enemies desperately protect what once was considered their ‘kin,’ especially when the Wasp Knight saw these Divine Spirits, somehow donned in the attire of the Five Knights.

There was no combat strength enhancement in the Five Knights’ attire itself, something the Wasp Knight figured out. Still, they put it on for one reason only… to cheer up Queen Mei.

To let Queen Mei understand that her beloved Five Knights were still fighting for her.

This sentiment lasted until the Divine Spirits clad in the Five Knights’ armor beat up the Knight in red. Soon after, the final boss, the Obliteration Legion, arrived, and a heartfelt fear began to take hold of the Wasp Knight.

“Are these guys immortal? Damn it! What is this thing! It’s climbing onto me!”

“Run!”

“This is the only sword I have left! Take it! Take them all! Just spare me!”

The above three lines were not from the Divine Spirits but from the soldiers of the Obliteration Legion.

Am I watching a horror movie?

This peculiar thought popped up in the Wasp Knight’s mind.

The time was now 7:32 AM, and the Wasp Knight had been watching the livestream for almost twelve whole hours.

The Obliteration Legion and the players had been clashing for a full two hours.

The strength of the Obliteration Legion was formidable; each of their soldiers could take on ten opponents, but their commanders made one mistake—they brought too few soldiers, only about three hundred.

If the Obliteration Legion’s soldiers were facing regular human soldiers, you know, the kind that wouldn’t resurrect once killed, they could easily wipe out their enemies.

But the problem was that they were facing the Divine Spirits, pure constructs of energy, who, if left alone, would resurrect full health on the spot after some time.

The most desperate aspect was that the soldiers of the Obliteration Legion were not blessed with Hai Lan’s Divine Fragments, meaning they could not absorb the power of the Holy Spirits by killing them like the Wasp Knights could.

Moreover, they had chosen the wrong battlefield, this was not Earth but the divine plane of Hai Lan, which meant the players could wreak havoc without worrying about the consequences of damaging the battlefield.

When Jiang Qiao announced, “The Corpse Curse has been purified, you will no longer be infected with the Corpse Curse after death,” the players fully unleashed their power in their fight against the Obliteration Legion.

The result was that during the two hours of combat, the Obliteration Legion experienced what it was like to be on the receiving end of true chaotic evil forces.

The current title of the live stream watched by the Wasp Knight was still “The Strongest Battle Mage of Holy Spirits,” and the battle mage, bearing the ID ‘MacCoffee,’ stood in front of Ager, the leader of the Obliteration Legion.

“Hey, do you have a second phase?” MacCoffee’s Lion Heart Knight transformation time had passed, so she reverted to her original outfit, a snowman coat combined with a pixelated head typical of her class.

This was the second most popular costume arrangement among the Holy Spirits, the most popular being the rainbow unicorn outfit.

The leader of the Obliteration Legion, Ager, was not one to be underestimated; he lifted his Magic Wand high and stabbed it violently into the ground, causing a large number of black hands to burst forth and swirl around MacCoffee, disintegrating her into a tombstone in a mere second.

‘The invincible Coffee boss has died yet again!’

‘Oh my God! They killed Coffee boss again.’

‘You bastards!’

The Wasp Knight calmly watched the barrage of comments in the live stream. She had watched this battle mage’s stream for over two hours, admiring her solitary brave act of attempting to rescue Queen Mei.

But she was just too fragile, fragile enough to be killed over and over by the soldiers of the Obliteration Legion during the two-hour live stream.

The demise of one Holy Spirit didn’t affect the morale of the others at all, and Ager, the leader of the Obliteration Legion, came to realize this. Thus, he made the wisest decision of his life and turned to flee.

“Truly the epitome of shame,” the Lion Heart Knight commented disdainfully as she watched Ager flee.

The Wasp Knight pursed her lips and said nothing; she would have run too.

The group of Holy Spirits was fearless, their morale soaring with each death. If it weren’t for her possession of Hai Lan’s Divine Fragment, she would probably have started to consider retreating as well.

Ager fled very fast, with a spatial rift appearing ahead of him; remnants of the Obliteration Legion attempted to surge into it.

He was a Mage-type character, and his agility was ultimately no match for some of the archers in the Obliteration Legion, yet a player from the Dancing Nuclear Guild named Wandering Gunman, seizing the opportunity, delivered a headshot to Ager’s knee.

The sound of the revolver echoed throughout the underground tomb, the bullet fired in an instant precisely hitting Ager’s knee.

A skull mark composed of flames and gunsmoke appeared on Ager’s knee.

This was a critical hit effect unique to Wandering Gunmen.

If Ager had been in his prime, withstanding this shot would have been trivial, but he had been battling the Holy Spirits for a whole two hours and his original health of over four million had been reduced to just over ten thousand.

For a normal person, this would be akin to a mortal, grievous injury, and the bullet fired in that headshot was utterly fatal for Ager.

Ager’s knee was shattered by the headshot, and he collapsed to the ground, a look of despair on his face as he watched the army of players close in behind him.

“Don’t come any closer! Don’t come any closer ahh!!”
