Chapter 44 - 44 47 Overtime Work_1
Chapter 44: Chapter 47 Overtime Work_1 Chapter 44: Chapter 47 Overtime Work_1 He also owned a similar ID, which belonged to the ‘Bureau of Culture’s Special Affairs Department’.
As a government apostle, Lin Xun quickly determined that the identification was not forged.
Why would the Arm Group want to assault me?
He did not show his true form, nor did he immediately attack me – it seems he does not intend to kill me.
In other words, there’s a high chance he merely wanted to beat me up, but why?
Suddenly, he remembered that having dinner with him was none other than the darling of the Arm Group – Lu Caiyi.
Everything made sense now.
“Hmph! Old man!”
“You could practically be a father at your age, and yet you act like a young man, consumed by jealousy! You truly lack respect for your elders!”
The more he thought about it, the angrier he got. If it hadn’t been for his quick reflexes, he would have taken a beating today.
Lin Xun squinted, grabbed the big man’s collar, and dragged him out of the bathroom stall.
Swinging his arm, he tossed the large man into the VIP room.
He stepped out of the bathroom, brushed off his sleeves, not taking a single trace of the commotion with him.
After relieving himself, Lin Xun felt well-rested. His battling strength was back.
Upon returning to the table, the blond girl who had been drinking had a light blush on her face—an enchanting sight.
Lin Xun, having just knocked down a member of the Arm Group, deliberately asked Lu Caiyi about the group.
The blond girl, somewhat influenced by the alcohol, began speaking without reserve, explaining in great detail the Arm Group’s mission, responsibilities, salary, and benefits.
Just as he was about to ask Lu Caiyi for another round, his phone rang.
It was a call from his female superior.
Huh? Why is the female boss looking for me so late?
He answered the call and heard Li Xingyue’s voice; “Lin Xun, come to the office for some overtime. The logistics group has finished early.”
“…”
Didn’t they say work was laid-back here?
Why is there overtime workload just after less than a day off…
Lin Xun felt exasperated. He had planned to spend the evening with Lu Caiyi, drinking until they dropped, enlightening the blond girl about the consequences of provoking him. But then his boss suddenly decided to call him into work.
“What’s wrong? Is it inconvenient?” The seductive voice of the female superior.
Lu Caiyi clearly heard Li Xingyue’s request for overtime as well. She gave a slight smile, signaling Lin Xun not to worry about her and to tend to his affairs.
“No, I’ll head to the office now.”
As soon as he hung up, he began to apologize to Lu Caiyi for the sudden emergency and that he has to leave early.
But then, the blond girl’s phone rang as well. She too received overtime notification from Team Leader Li.
Lin Xun vaguely had an idea of what the overtime work was about.
However, why call Lu Caiyi in for overtime as well?
Both were puzzled, but as Li Xingyue did not mention it explicitly over the phone, they did not ask further.
Lin Xun paid the bill and then left the restaurant with Lu Caiyi. He tried to hail a taxi, but Lu Caiyi signaled that it wasn’t necessary.
Lu Caiyi drove a white Mercedes Benz C-Class, and there was a valet service right outside the restaurant.
They both then headed towards the Bureau of Culture.
Lin Xun felt slightly jealous, although he too owned a vehicle, a giant horse over three meters tall, but it wasn’t exactly practical for everyday commuting.
Maybe he should save up some more wages and buy a car for commuting.
That’s what Lin Xun thought.
…
Inside the restaurant,
A few middle-aged men were happily drinking and about to start a game of dice.
Suddenly, one of them asked,
“Eh, where’s Old Wang?”
“You must be drunk! Old Wang said he was going to relieve himself.”
“You’re the one who’s drunk! I was wondering why Old Wang has been gone for so long.”
“Yeah, even if he was using the toilet, he should have been done by now. Could it be that he got drunk?”
The men couldn’t believe it. Old Wang was always boasting about his alcohol tolerance, claiming he could easily outdrink all them. How could he be drunk?
“Let’s go, let’s check the restroom.”
The group dashed towards the restroom. After a bit of searching, they found a man ‘drunk’ upside down in one of the stalls.
“Hey, isn’t this Old Wang who’s always bragging?”
“Yeah, after just a few drinks, he can’t even tell the bed from the pit anymore.”
“Old Wang, didn’t think you’d ever have such a day, serves you right, ha ha.”
“Agh, you guys move, I want to take a picture of Old Wang.”
“Right, right. This rare sight, how could we not take a photo for memory?”
“Why don’t we do a group photo, and I’ll have my son print the picture tomorrow. Everyone gets a copy to hang in their homes.”
“Good idea! Let’s do it!”
“Ok, ok, look at the camera, one, two, three, cheese!”
Several victorious middle-aged men surrounded the man in the pit. Some were doing the scissor hand pose, others were giving a thumbs up, some even making a heart with their hands, and thus the photo was taken.
…
The car arrived at the Bureau of Culture’s entrance, and Lin Xun rolled down the window to greet the security guards.
The security uncle saw the man and woman in the back seat and flashed an ambiguous smile before waving them through.
The car was parked in the bureau’s public parking lot, and the familiar Black G was parked nearby. After the valet parking attendant parked the car and turned off the ignition, he quietly left.
“Ah~” Lu Caiyi let out a surprised sound as if realizing something.
She quickly pulled out a small mirror and checked her reflection. Her face was flushed, and she could still smell the distinct aroma of alcohol from her collar.
Next to her, Lin Xun looked puzzled, but also looked as if he had just been drinking.
Lu Caiyi held her head in annoyance.
Damn, if I were to go upstairs and into the office looking like this with him, even with three mouths, I wouldn’t be able to clear up the misunderstanding.
With a guilty tone, she said, “Lin Xun, why don’t you go up first?”
Lin Xun understood what she was thinking.
However, trying to avoid each other would only draw more attention and cause misunderstandings. It was better to just be upfront about it – that they were just colleagues having a normal social drink.
Lu Caiyi hesitated for a while, then a white light appeared in her hand.
Right after, the blush on her face faded, and she looked as if she hadn’t been drinking at all.
Lin Xun’s eyes widened. Had she used some kind of hangover remedy?
What do you think?
