Chapter 11 - Bloody Memories
Wei Wei firmed his resolve and took out the flasks and test tubes from the box. Several small glass bottles containing mysterious liquids were arranged in order. Inside the box, he carefully inspected the small energy separation and mixing device.
Then, he took out a corked glass bottle from his shoulder bag.
He removed the gun holster usually fastened at his lower back and placed it aside. He picked up the glass bottle and examined it closely.
Inside the glass bottle was a small black substance that looked like tree bark, but occasionally wriggled slightly.
There was also a small label attached to it, with the words "Abandoned Building" written on it.
On the way to report to Scrap Iron City, Wei Wei discovered that first-class threat scene hidden in the folded space, and of course had to deal with it casually. However, killing all the infected wasn't the end, because the rituals of those demon worshippers had already created a life demon force field in that folded space, which was like a special magnetic field, constantly affecting the surroundings.
If Wei Wei didn't deal with it, two possible outcomes could occur. One was that this magnetic field would gradually dissipate after a certain time, as if it had never appeared. The other was that the magnetic field would persist, even gradually grow stronger, affecting everything and everyone around it. Over time, even ordinary people might be influenced by it, turning into degenerate monsters or becoming followers of the life demon.
So, Wei Wei contained this magnetic field and brought it home. And since he also needed such a thing, there was no need to report it to his superiors. This successfully reduced the workload of those people above. Such things weren't uncommon in the industry, and although not quite compliant, according to what the instructor had started teaching him before: The boundary of legality mainly depends on whether you get caught or not.

...
After some preparation, Wei Wei opened the cork of the glass bottle and tapped the living thing inside into the flask on the table.
"Plop..."
Like a living creature, it immediately dispersed many fine tentacles, probing and patting inside the flask. Wei Wei's movements were very practiced. He immediately took out some small bottles he had just prepared and poured different doses of liquid into the flask.
As the differently colored reagents dripped in, that piece of sludge emitted white smoke as if burned by sulfuric acid. Vaguely, one could even hear a kind of piercing scream. The surrounding air seemed to be stirred turbid by this scream, and the electric light overhead flickered slightly with unstable voltage.
Wei Wei's actions didn't stop for a moment. He capped the flask, shook it vigorously a few times, and the liquid became chaotic, the thing inside stopped moving. Then he took a test tube and, under sealed conditions, poured the mixed liquid into the test tube. After doing this, he inserted the test tube into the small, delicate energy separator in the black box and pressed the switch.
Buzz buzz buzz...
The separator began to spin rapidly, like a drill, spinning faster and faster. After more than ten seconds, a red light came on, and the separator slowly stopped spinning. The black turbid liquid in the test tube had clearly changed, forming three layers.
The bottom layer was black, with many visible impurities and extremely small, tadpole-like strange substances swimming around. The middle layer was gray, with large patches of clouds gently surging inside the test tube. The top layer, however, was clear and transparent, crystal clear.
Wei Wei took out a precisely made metal cylinder and used another to extract this clean substance. Then he pressed a black button. With a "hiss," a sharp long needle extended from the bottom of the metal cylinder.
Wei Wei, very accustomed to it, rolled up his sleeve and then aimed the long needle at his right forearm, gently piercing it. Three green lights on the metal cylinder flickered gently, then went out. Some mysterious power had thus entered Wei Wei's body.
Starting from his forearm, the blood vessels on his body suddenly appeared one by one, as clear as if drawn by a brush. Gradually, the blood vessels seemed to come alive like worms, crawling hideously under his skin. The blood seemed to gallop like crazy horses in the blood vessels. Wei Wei could feel the sensation of vigorous life force surging to various parts of his body. A sense of power beyond the body's limits was crazily fusing into his life in an unreasonable way.
"Bang!"
Wei Wei suddenly grabbed the black short gun beside him, pressed it against the palm of his right hand, and violently pulled the trigger. After a muffled sound, a bloody hole was blasted in the palm of his right hand. Shattered flesh and bone splinters splattered everywhere. But Wei Wei expressionlessly raised his hand, holding the hole in his palm towards the light outside the window, quietly watching. At the wound site, flesh buds had already begun to slowly wriggle.
"Beep beep-"
On the small LCD screen of the metal cylinder beside him, numbers began to pop up: "Life magnetic field radiation enhanced, 85%... 90... 97%... 99%..." "Beep-" The LCD screen suddenly flashed red: "Life magnetic field reached peak value, convert to second state?"
...
...
When the first state of the life magnetic field reached its limit, it was time to convert to the second state. No one dared to be careless at this time. Because during the state conversion process, it was the easiest stage to degenerate and hear demonic whispers. Usually, superhumans would fully prepare, setting up several safeguards, even emergency medical measures before daring to attempt. But Wei Wei didn't even prepare a stabilizer, just indifferently watching the screen.
Red blood threads that shouldn't appear in life sequence superhumans moved in his eyes, and at the not yet healed wound, fine blood threads appeared, like living things, mixing with fresh blood, yet seeming to possess another type of life. They seemed to be absorbing Wei Wei's blood. At the same time, new numbers began to pop up on the LCD screen: "Life magnetic field radiation weakening..." "99%... 97%... 92%... 85%..." "Life magnetic field first state, stable." "Beep-" "Unrecorded abnormal magnetic field detected, record and synchronously upload warning?"
...
...
"Three years..." Wei Wei turned off the alarm, quietly lit a cigarette, and slowly exhaled smoke. At the wound on his palm, the blood threads had gradually subsided, and the remaining vigorous life force was still surging in his body. Even though this excess life force was constantly nourishing another core, it was still an overflowing state for him. Therefore, individuals possessing such super-strong life force, whether smoking, drinking, or even getting injured, would quickly repair their bodies. Exaggeratedly speaking, even if the head fell off, it would only be considered a slightly larger scar. And this was the change brought by the life demon. Initially, being influenced by the life demon seemed wonderful. It would make people healthy, free from all diseases. Even the elderly could have the same abundant energy and physical strength as young people. Not to mention those whose lives were nearing their end or who were seriously ill, even ordinary people couldn't resist this instinctive temptation. But they didn't know that demons don't create life. As the influence deepened further, desires would always become distorted, and the process of life plundering would begin... Thus, crimes exceeding the bottom line appeared in this world time and time again...
...
...
Dirty yet innocently smiling little faces gradually appeared before Wei Wei's eyes. In his ears, he seemed to hear clear voices full of childish innocence again: "When I grow up, I want to swagger into the church's back garden to dig sweet potatoes, see who dares to stop me!" "Brother Wei, I swear when I make money, I'll buy that pig's head to eat all by myself..." "Hehe, Brother Wei, look, that fat woman's butt wiggles so well..." "Big Brother Wei, when we make money, can you take me to the city again to see that white little dress?" "..."
The wall that Wei Wei had painted bright red refracted the dazzling light of the incandescent lamp into his eyes. Reality and memory overlapped because of this bright red. In a trance, he experienced scene after scene, and finally returned to what it was like when he first entered this room.
Similarly, there was blood everywhere, blood stains smeared on the surrounding walls, outlining weird and mysterious patterns. Six people dressed exquisitely sat around the large round table in the room. Delicate plates and cutlery were placed in front of them, with a drop of crimson blood hanging from the corners of their mouths. A little girl in a white dress was hung from the central light pole, her hands tied behind her back, slowly rotating. Round and round. When her little face turned towards Wei Wei walking in from the door, blood dripped down her small body.
"Big Brother Wei..." A piercing cry suddenly rang out: "They're eating my feet..." "..." "..." "Swoosh!"
Wei Wei suddenly opened his eyes, only to find that he had unknowingly fallen asleep just now. He was panting heavily, cold sweat had soaked through his clothes, his heart was beating like crazy, constantly accelerating. Thump... thump... thump... Gradually, his eyes turned blood-red, with earthworm-like blue veins appearing on his temples.
"Some things..." His voice was hoarse, as if talking to himself, or as if speaking to this empty room: "Can't be gotten over!"
What do you think?
