Chapter 19 - The Summoning Ritual
Wei Wei bent over, approaching the farm quickly with a professional, sneaky manner.
Ye Feifei also bent over, imitating his professional stealth as she followed right behind him.
The two reached the farm’s edge, marked by a red lime brick wall about a meter high. Ye Feifei quickly scanned the surroundings, then crouched down and said to Wei Wei,
"It seems there's no one inside, and no surveillance cameras. Even the dogs inside aren’t very alert.""Yes, this bad guy is clearly not very professional," Wei Wei nodded in agreement. "However, we still need to be careful."
Ye Feifei strongly agreed, "Right, right, right—we absolutely can't be reckless..."
Before she finished speaking, she saw Wei Wei place his hand on the top of the wall and nimbly flip over into the farm. Stunned for a moment, Ye Feifei hurriedly followed his footsteps.
The two moved with slightly hunched postures, swiftly and nimbly through a wheat field that barely covered their ankles. Their footsteps produced faint rustling sounds as they trod on the wheat, and in the furrows beside them, dead crows lay scattered—some already half-decayed, their dull eyes silently watching their progress.
This was Ye Feifei's first time encountering such a major case. Nervous sweat beaded on the tip of her nose, and her heart pounded fiercely. But seeing Wei Wei’s calm, agile figure ahead, she gradually gathered her courage.
"Stay steady, Ye Feifei!" she urged herself internally. "You've received guidance from professional teachers, while Little Wei Brother is just a volunteer recently released from prison. In terms of field experience, he's a month and a half behind you. You absolutely can't lose face."...
Within moments, the duo reached the nearest greenhouse and crouched down.
In the distance, several dogs, tearing at some sort of meat chunk, became sluggishly alert—turning their heads to stare fiercely. Drool splattered as they showed menacing eyes and growled.
Wei Wei narrowed his eyes, drew his gun from his lower back, and pointed it at the vicious dogs ahead. In a low voice, he commanded,
"Don't bark. Get lost."As he spoke, a faint red light flashed in his eyes.
"Whimper..."
The vicious dogs suddenly sucked in their drool, tucked their tails tightly, and abandoned the meat on the ground, fleeing into the distance. One particularly cowardly dog kept looking back, as if checking whether Wei Wei was chasing after them.
"That works too?" Ye Feifei stared wide-eyed, amazed.
Wei Wei casually holstered his gun and asked in surprise,
"Aren't you afraid of guns?"Ye Feifei answered blankly,
"Of course I'm afraid."Wei Wei smiled and replied,
"Then what's so strange? If you're afraid, how could they not be afraid?"For a moment, Ye Feifei was stunned—his logic strangely made sense.
...
Before Ye Feifei could react further, Wei Wei suddenly stood up and moved deeper inside.
She hurriedly followed, and soon they reached the next greenhouse.
Wei Wei reached out to break through the plastic film, covered with a layer of white mist, and looked inside. He saw only rows of tomato plants with bright red fruit. He reached in and plucked two tomatoes—putting one in his mouth and casually handing the other to Ye Feifei—then continued moving forward.
They slowly passed through several greenhouses and reached the center of the farm, where a lonely cement house stood.
Around the house were piles of sacks with sticky liquid seeping out from inside, and the stench of decay grew stronger, while the contents of the sacks remained unclear.
They lightened their footsteps and quietly circled to the back of the house, gently peeking inside.
The room layout was chaotic, with crooked, misaligned furniture pushed against the walls. Withered plants, disemboweled black goats, and various bottles and jars containing unknown substances were scattered about. The floor was covered in strange, twisted symbols drawn with an unidentified black liquid—as if ghosts were dancing in distortion. All the symbols encircled the sofa in the middle, forming a huge circle that nearly covered the entire space of the cement house.
The circles intertwined to form a six-pointed star symbol. In the center, on the shabby sofa, there appeared to be a figure with graying hair, sitting facing the door.
"These should be mystical symbols of the Death system..."
"What are they preparing to summon here?"
Wei Wei frowned, roughly judging the purpose of the mysterious symbols. In the Twelve Demon system, each faction has its own mystical symbols. Due to differences in religious sects or doctrines, these symbols branch out in various forms. He couldn’t possibly recognize them all—only make a general judgment.
However, seeing the symbols covering the room confirmed he hadn’t come to the wrong place. The death aura here was so thick it was almost suffocating, and every symbol testified to the traces of demon worship.
...
"Good boy, give brother a smile..."
"Hee hee..." "..."Suddenly, a man's voice sounded from inside the room, startling Ye Feifei outside.
She had only seen someone sitting on the sofa, but the voice came from the opposite side. The person should have been sitting on the floor, hidden just by the sofa. His deliberately softened, slowed voice was particularly strange in the quiet.
"Come, come, I've warmed some goat's milk for you. I've already tested it—it's fragrant and sweet..."
"Come, take a big drink..."
"Good boy..."
"..."Then his voice carried a doting tone,
"Baby is so good, hurry and eat your fill...""After you're full..."
The doting in his voice grew even heavier as he softened his tone further:
"Brother will send you on your way..." "..."Outside the window, Ye Feifei felt her heart being squeezed, her hair standing on end.
"But don't worry, brother has practiced many times—I guarantee it won't be very painful..."
The man's voice continued intimately,
"Brother will send you to God's side, and when you get there, you have to be good, okay?""Tell brother, okay?"
"..."After his gentle inquiry, he mimicked a baby's speech:
"Okay, I understand...""Wish brother and sister happiness forever..."
"Mwah..." "Baby is really so good, brother really likes you...""Hope that in the future, brother and sister can have a cute little baby like you..."
"..."Outside the window, Ye Feifei was already getting goosebumps, her face growing pale as she looked over at Wei Wei.
Hearing this, she was certain that she and Wei Wei hadn’t come to the wrong place. That mine worker was truly here. And that infant was in his arms.
Now, he was preparing to sacrifice this infant—yet showing such intimacy before the sacrifice... It was like a fly flying into one’s mouth, evoking a nauseating feeling that made one want to vomit.
She suddenly turned her head, looking at Wei Wei with an anxious inquiry.
She was just an intern, and after reading so many files, she deeply understood how terrifying some things could be. So when doing anything, although she felt anxious, she also tried to control herself to avoid causing disaster through rashness.
Now she was eager to save that child, yet she didn't dare rush in recklessly. It wasn't fear of the danger inside but fear that her impulsiveness might backfire. She wasn’t the type who could later excuse herself with "I meant well" after a mistake.
At that moment, Wei Wei's pupils contracted slightly as he thought rapidly. The clues he had gathered from Yuan Guaizi were still unclear, and he had come here with merely the idea of trying.
But unexpectedly, upon arrival, they had encountered that death-worshipping mine worker. The connections were still murky, but time allowed little detailed consideration. So he slightly pursed his lips and nodded to Ye Feifei, indicating that she could act boldly.
Ye Feifei was immediately both surprised and delighted, suddenly growing excited as she stood up and gripped her gun.
"Don't move, police!" she shouted."..."
In Wei Wei's eyes, the confident intern Ye Feifei had displayed excellent professional quality. As she shouted while holding her gun, she swung her elbow to smash the window. After breaking the not-very-sturdy glass, she leapt through it. While shouting, she pointed her gun at the man on the sofa. Her movements were sharp, her steps precise.
Supernatural law enforcement officers bear heavy responsibilities but are little known among ordinary people. When faced with special events that require immediate intimidation and stabilization, they default to calling themselves "police" rather than revealing their true identity. Her smooth execution confirmed she had received professional training.
However, after rushing into the room and pointing at the man on the sofa, Ye Feifei suddenly changed her expression. Her scalp tingled as she took two steps back. When she had jumped through the window, she had seen a young man kneeling in front of the sofa—still in dirty work clothes, holding a thin infant in his arms, with a milk bottle in his right hand.
But when she was outside the window, she noticed that there was also someone on the sofa. So as she entered, she moved aside to create distance, pointing her gun at the mine worker while quickly scanning the sofa area for risks. This glance made her hair stand on end.
What was on the sofa was completely different from what she expected—it wasn’t a person. It was a corpse. The face was iron-gray, with heavy makeup that only the dead wore, its stiff features sporting a cold smile.
The corpse was dressed in a white wedding dress, still pristine and unstained by soil. Even though it was shrouded in the aura of death, one could imagine how bright-eyed and beautiful she must have been when alive. Now, all that remained was an endless eeriness.
That stolen female corpse was here too?
What do you think?
