Chapter 2 - Life Demon
"Bang, shakalaka..."
The pale lights suddenly illuminated the bar, interrupting the rising frenzy in the darkness.
The pulsating music still echoed in their ears, but the sudden brightness caused intense discomfort among the crowd. Countless heads that had been swaying in the bar took a moment to react, slowly emerging from their frenzied state. As they adjusted to the strong light, they turned to look around, their gazes falling on Wei Wei, who was slowly withdrawing his hand from the direction of the light switch.
In their field of vision appeared an unfamiliar face.
He looked young, only about eighteen or nineteen years old, but carried himself with a composed and experienced demeanor.
He quickly pulled out an indistinct badge, casually flashing it to the crowd before putting it away even faster.
"Everyone, I apologize for the interruption," Wei Wei said with a professional smile, his tone polite. "I'm from the Supernatural Affairs Investigation Bureau."
"Your worship of demonic powers and the spread of demon factors are classified as Class-1 hazardous behavior, strictly prohibited by the Administrative Office."
"...So, please line up and come with me for questioning, alright?"
"..."
"Investigation Bureau?"
Before Wei Wei could finish speaking, the crowd was taken aback.
Then, countless faces showed flickers of fear, their eyes instinctively darting towards the Gothic man on the stage.
Some wondered: Didn't DJ take care of everything?
Others were confused: What does the Investigation Bureau do?
Amidst the various puzzled glances, the Gothic-style man on stage suddenly reacted. He first quickly glanced towards the elevator entrance, finding no other suspicious figures, then swiftly scanned the surveillance monitor, seeing no unusual activity outside.
Though unsure how Wei Wei had entered, he quickly regained his composure, putting on a smile and saying:
"Is there some misunderstanding?"
"..."
His words were very polite, his tone gentle.
But soon, the people in front of the dance floor reacted, slightly squeezing inwards to shield the statue of the Life Goddess behind them. The DJ's voice continued to sound softly: "The deity we worship is one of the Twelve Primordial Deities: The Life Goddess. She was born from the boundless ocean of spirit, bringing life and health to this world, and also bringing comfort to our souls..."
"It is She who helps us heal diseases, mend wounds, and it is She who guides us lost lambs towards..."
"..."
Under the DJ's gentle tones, many people's eyes gradually became entranced, a sense of devotion welling up spontaneously. The initial panic from being interrupted by an outsider was gradually subsiding, and the shame of having inappropriate behavior discovered was quickly fading...
Wei Wei wore an expression of attentive listening, but his right hand impatiently raised up.
In his hand was a gun.
The gun was an old-fashioned model with a large barrel, even showing some rust. It had a rugged quality, like a hot-tempered tough guy.
Then Wei Wei directly pulled the trigger.
"Bang!"
A burst of flame erupted from the muzzle.
With a "crash", a man standing by the dance floor, shielding the statue of the Life Goddess, suddenly froze in place. He looked down in disbelief to see a large, bloody hole blown through his abdomen.
Through this hole, the statue behind could be seen.
The bullet had passed through his abdomen and struck the base of the statue, sending stone fragments flying.
The statue lost its support and slowly toppled over, shattering into pieces on the ground. A human figure slowly slid out from inside.
It was a vaguely discernible form of a girl, seemingly still in school. She had a ponytail and was even wearing school uniform pants. But the visible parts of her body were all as thin as sticks, like a crumpled black rag.
The sudden gunshot startled those who had fallen into a slight trance, even cutting off the DJ's words abruptly.
Countless expressions changed dramatically as they stared blankly at Wei Wei.
"The Life Demon doesn't grant life," Wei Wei explained patiently with a smile on his face. "The Life Demon only has the ability to deprive and bestow life energy, capable of transferring a unit of life energy from one entity to another. It can extract and deprive someone's life vitality, materializing it as pure life energy to be given to others. So, your so-called prayers are just using the demon to steal life from others."
He paused, his lips curling slightly: "You've even grown accustomed to wasting this stolen life..."
"..."
"You..."
The Gothic DJ seemed to have no interest in listening to Wei Wei's scientific explanation. He, who had just been speaking softly and engaging with Wei Wei in a friendly manner, was shocked by this sudden gunshot. Especially seeing Wei Wei ruthlessly injure someone and even shatter the statue they worshipped, his eyes instantly turned blood-red, with veins bulging like earthworms on his neck.
"Blasphemer, you're a blasphemer..." he suddenly shouted through gritted teeth. "Kill him, grab him, offer him to the goddess..."
"Crash..."
That gunshot had shocked most of the people present into a daze, but the DJ's shout snapped them back to reality. Seeing the shattered statue on the ground and the little girl exposed beneath it, panic spread once again as their crime was discovered.
First, a few people wearing black robes standing behind the DJ reacted the quickest, pushing through the crowd to approach.
Then, one by one, the followers' eyes began to show a fierce light, staring intently at Wei Wei who stood alone in the crowd. Some burly young men had already picked up bottles, ashtrays, and some strange rubber rod-like objects from nearby tables...
Those who don't fear sharp knives and strong alcohol naturally don't have much reverence for bullets either.
The vigorous life force also often made them feel a surge of destructive impulse from within.
Madness seemed to be spreading, fermenting rapidly.
Pairs of eyes turned crimson, faces twisted into strange expressions, looming closer in the flickering light.
"Huff..."
At this moment, Wei Wei, surrounded in the middle, slowly lowered his head, seeming somewhat regretful.
"I originally wanted to persuade you nicely to stay away from demons..."
Then, he suddenly raised his head, his face abruptly losing all traces of a smile.
"Now I can only execute Plan B."
"..."
The next moment, he suddenly moved towards the crowd, continuously pulling the trigger.
"Bang bang bang..."
Holes appeared one after another in those black-robed men who had pushed through the crowd towards him, blooming into grotesque yet vivid blood flowers.
Terrified screams erupted.
Broken bodies and flying limbs splattered two to three meters away, collapsing tables piled high with drinks.
Even if one worshipped the Life Demon and possessed vigorous life force, they could still be killed.
They could quickly heal various self-inflicted wounds, even the weakening of life force brought by aging, but as long as the instantaneous trauma caused death force exceeding the energy limit contained in their current life, they would die immediately.
Unfortunately, some people in the bar didn't even know this.
The various mystical experiences they had after joining this gathering had given them a fanatical confidence, until this deafening gunshot suddenly rang in their ears, and they saw a familiar face lose its familiar features along with its head.
Wei Wei's body moved nimbly through the chaotic crowd and space, his movements not incredibly fast, but very precise.
He had blasted those black-robed figures with his gun, which was now empty and tucked back into its holster. Without time to reload, he was busy weaving through the chaotic layout, dodging dangers around him while grabbing chairs, bottles, fruit skewers, and even snatching some rod-shaped rubber objects, attacking those who came at him or couldn't avoid him.
Panic spread, with more people fleeing with their heads down than madmen pushing inward.
The dazzling blood red entered their vision, causing twisted faces to crawl with fear.
When they discovered that the elevator could no longer be controlled and the back door was locked with heavy chains, a surge of terror welled up in their hearts, like a tidal wave washing back into the bar. Looking at the man walking amidst the blood, they felt a sense of hopeless despair with nowhere to escape.
In the chaos, someone was pushed onto the control panel, and the pounding music once again filled their eardrums.
"Boom! Shakalaka!"
Wei Wei, gun in hand, advanced towards the dance floor, his feet now treading on a carpet formed by converging rivers of blood.
"Damn it..."
The Gothic DJ, watching the person below wreaking havoc and quickly approaching him, gritted his stainless steel teeth.
He charged forward with a muffled roar, like a human tank, sending four or five people in front of him flying into the air. His eyes were as blood-red as if they had burst with fresh blood as he swung his fist, adorned with a skull ring, viciously towards Wei Wei who had approached the stage.
Before the sharp edge of the ring could scratch Wei Wei's face, Wei Wei suddenly turned, already pulling out a second gun from his holster. This one was longer than the first, made of silver, with exquisite patterns and a set of black English signatures.
Elegant and delicate, like a lady.
The long gun spun in his palm, tracing an elegant and precise arc before being shoved into the DJ's face.
The DJ froze momentarily.
"Bang!"
The next moment, a special bullet howled out of the dark barrel, blasting half of the DJ's head into a bloody pulp.
But after twitching on the ground for a few moments, he suddenly got up again.
The eye that hadn't been completely shattered shot out a hateful blood-red light.
His body, in a posture unlike a human's, carried a sense of heavy force as he lunged again, viciously grabbing for Wei Wei's neck.
Wei Wei slightly tilted his body, his movement not as fast as his opponent's, but extremely precise.
He widened the distance between the other's hand and his own neck, the black long gun tilting slightly to point, firing again.
"Bang"
A large hole was blasted open in the DJ's chest, sending him flying sideways again.
But immediately after, he got up once more. His spine was already broken, his body touching the ground at both ends, the middle part where a bit of flesh still connected arching upwards in a "bridge" pose. His hands and feet quickly crisscrossed as he charged towards Wei Wei again.
Wei Wei kicked him down, stepped on the broken part of his spine, and aimed at his upper body, pulling the trigger repeatedly.
"Bang bang bang bang..."
After emptying the gun in one go, the DJ's upper body had turned to mincemeat, but the flesh was still squirming slightly.
Wei Wei shook his head in dissatisfaction, grabbed a bottle of high-proof liquor from nearby, poured it over him, and set it alight.
The flames rose with a "puff," the twisted flesh convulsing in the fire before finally becoming still.
Wei Wei let out a satisfied sigh, the smile returning to his face.
"..." "..."
Bang! Shakalaka!
The music continued, but the air filled with the smell of alcohol, smoke, perfume, and rotting seafood was now mixed with the scent of fresh blood. This, like an invisible hand, gripped the stomachs of the survivors, filling them with something called fear.
The frenzied expressions faded from their faces, replaced by creeping terror.
The DJ was dead. He, who seemed omnipotent in many people's hearts, had died from such simple methods.
Someone suddenly lost control and began to convulse, vomiting. Others' legs went weak, and they collapsed to their knees.
Among the group of demon-infected individuals who were scared out of their wits, Wei Wei had already casually turned away from the flames. He picked up a scattered good cigarette from a nearby table, put it in his mouth, lit it with the hot gun barrel, then put away the elegant lady and took out the rugged tough guy again. He scanned the remaining people, then grabbed a handful of bullets, slowly loading them into the magazine.
Those who had collapsed in pools of blood trembled, looking at Wei Wei in fear, their voices quavering as they begged:
"Sp-spare us..."
"..."
Wei Wei clicked the gun stock shut with a snap, turned to look at them, then shook his head with a smile:
"No!"
"..."
"Bang"
"Bang"
"Bang bang bang"
"..."
What I like most is persuading people to be good!
What do you think?
