Chapter 323: Chapter 323: Cursing
“There’s no particular reason!” Guan Xiaotong shook her head, glanced fearfully at Xiao Han, and said, “I’m not ready to be in a relationship, I… I just want to focus on my studies.”
“Who says being in a relationship will interfere with studying?” Liu Bin hurriedly said, “I don’t believe that’s necessarily true. Don’t worry, if we were to date, I definitely wouldn’t disrupt your studying; on the contrary, I’d support you. I could study with you, and you could ask me if you don’t understand something.”
Guan Xiaotong was actually quite excited by this; Liu Bin’s words had made her heart flutter even more.
Although Liu Bin wasn’t as handsome or imposing as Xiao Han, his features were still delicately appealing. At least in that respect, he was quite commendable. Moreover, the guy was a computer science major and knew a lot. He also had good academic performance, and Shuimu University was a national key university, a 211 and 985 project university. It might not compare to Tsinghua University and Peking University, but it definitely ranked among the top national universities. Finding a boyfriend like him wouldn’t be too bad.
Yet, she felt she truly didn’t deserve him.
“No,” Guan Xiaotong shook her head and said, “Liu Bin, please let me be. I… I’m not good enough for you!”
At that moment, Zhang Xiaomei quickly interjected, “Liu Bin, are you taking advantage of being drunk to flirt with our Xiao Mei? If you truly want to confess your feelings, do it when you’re sober and bring flowers.”
“I…” Liu Bin was stunned. He gritted his teeth and said, “Alright, I’ll go back to rest and sober up this afternoon, and I’ll come tonight!”
Liu Bin released Guan Xiaotong’s hand, but his enthusiasm for her didn’t diminish at all. On the contrary, he became even more attentive, frequently checking if she was warm enough and personally serving her food. Zhang Feng just shook his head at this.
“It’s true that women can be a seductive peril,” Zhang Feng felt continuously tortured sitting bystander.
“Hehe, men really do go out of their way for women,” two girls on the side muttered.
“So, it doesn’t really matter how capable a woman is,” another girl whispered, “What’s most important is having a pretty face; that’s enough, understand?”
“That is also true,” another girl nearby nodded.
The girl then said with a smiling face, “As long as you have the looks, life doesn’t have to be so hard. There are much more choices.”
“Exactly!”
Lan Yudie and Xiao Han were sitting closely together. Although Xiao Han also served Lan Yudie food, his actions were natural and casual, showing no signs of the forcefulness that made Guan Xiaotong feel somewhat oppressed.
The meal lasted over an hour, and Liu Bin ended up quite drunk alone.
Zhang Dagou and Zhang Xiaomei could hold their liquor well, and drinking beer didn’t make them drunk. Zhang Xiaomei’s roommates had some wine, their cheeks flushed. The girls from her dormitory all had pretty high attractiveness; their faces and figures were quite appealing, with Guan Xiaotong being exceptionally outstanding. No wonder Liu Bin was utterly enchanted by her.
After the meal, Xiao Han escorted Lan Yudie back to the university.
Just as they reached the university gate, many students started pointing and whispering behind their backs.
“Xiao Han, have our… our affair already been found out?” Lan Yudie hurriedly asked.
“So what if it’s known?” Xiao Han shook his head and said, “The news was bound to come out eventually.”
“But I… I don’t want this!” Lan Yudie said with blushing cheeks.
Just then, a middle-aged man emerged from the crowd, furiously glaring at Lan Yudie, and said, “Teacher Lan, I really didn’t expect you to be such a person, to choose to date your own student. You are completely violating ethical and moral standards. Where is your sense of professional ethics?”
“Elder Chen!” Lan Yudie was startled, she quickly released Xiao Han’s hand, and said, “No… it’s not what you think!”
“Then what is it?” This middle-aged man was a professor at the university, in his forties, and unmarried. Having been in education for many years, he had become a devoted admirer of Lan Yudie ever since he met her. Now, having learned that Lan Yudie was dating her student, he was instantly infuriated and had come to confront her, and ran into them at the university entrance, thus immediately stepping out to accuse Lan Yudie.
Before Lan Yudie could respond, Xiao Han shielded her behind him, and coldly stared at the middle-aged man, asking, “Elder Chen, which national law exactly forbids a teacher from dating a student?”
“You!” Upon hearing this, Elder Chen nearly choked with rage, gritting his teeth, he said, “Young man, there’s more to this world than just laws; morals exist too!”
“Then may I ask, who exactly decreed that a teacher cannot date a student?” Xiao Han coldly asked.
“Moral standards!” Elder Chen shouted furiously.
“Morals are merely a form of restraint,” Xiao Han calmly looked at him, knowing the man was quick-tempered, and only needed to control the pace to easily disrupt his thought process, he smiled and said, “Morals too are built on the foundation of law. We are all adults here, each with our own thoughts and ideology. Who dates who is their own business and does not concern anyone else. In other words, if I were to withdraw from Shuimu University right now, wouldn’t I no longer be considered a student, and wouldn’t my relationship with Lan Yudie then conform to the constraints of morality? If that’s morally acceptable, why would having the additional status of a student violate morality?”
Xiao Han’s watertight argument made the people around nod in agreement.
Elder Chen took a deep breath, his eyes burning with anger, “Stop your sophistry. Students and teachers belong to different generations, and a relationship between such divergent generations goes against the natural order.”
“Stop pulling that saint act with me!” Xiao Han shook his head disdainfully and said, “Lan Yudie is only four years older than me. Isn’t it said, ‘A woman three years older is like a gold brick’? What’s wrong with wanting to hold onto a bit more ‘gold brick’?”
Ha ha ha…
Laughter erupted all around immediately.
“You!” Elder Chen almost choked with rage.
Lan Yudie blushed deeply, surprised by how slick Xiao Han was, leaving Elder Chen speechless and almost incoherent. The corners of Lan Yudie’s mouth turned up in a wicked smile as she began to laugh, then said, “Xiao Han, that’s enough.”
“I don’t want to be like this either!” Xiao Han chuckled and added, “It’s just that some people style themselves as the Holy Mother and the pure lotus.”
“Who are you calling names!” Elder Chen bellowed.
“Whoever jumps out to scold, that’s who I’m calling out!” Xiao Han laughed lightly.
“Let’s go, we’re leaving!” Lan Yudie quickly grabbed Xiao Han’s arm and headed into the school.
The surrounding students conscientiously made way for them to enter. Xiao Han walked with his head held high and chest out—for him, pursuing Lan Yudie wasn’t exactly something to be ashamed of, rather a proud accomplishment.
But Lan Yudie felt differently, being a female teacher involved with a male student was inherently scandalous, so she kept her head down and let Xiao Han drag her into the school.
“Shameful, shameful!” Elder Chen watched the retreating figures of Xiao Han and Lan Yudie and roared with anger.
“Elder Chen, stop making a fuss!” A student in the crowd laughed and said, “It’s not like it’s something scandalous. Teacher Lan has the right to date too!”
“Bullshit!” Elder Chen roared, “A teacher dating a student corrupts public morals, it corrupts public morals!”
“Please!” someone in the crowd mocked, “What about the headmaster sleeping with female students then?!”
That comment rendered Elder Chen speechless.
Indeed, the country had recently been rocked with too many morally dubious news stories. Male teachers sleeping with female students, headmasters involved with them. All this morally dubious news spread, overwhelming and even unacceptable to many.
Elder Chen flung his sleeves and fumed, “That’s illegal and disorderly. No, I must speak with the headmaster about this.”
With that, Elder Chen quickly left the scene.
Lan Yudie seemed somewhat overwhelmed, finally escaping from the front gate.
“Xiao Han, do you think being together was a mistake?” Lan Yudie asked, purse-lipped and weary.
Their relationship had just begun, and Lan Yudie was already feeling overwhelmed. The storm had struck without giving her any chance to prepare, hitting her head-on, almost causing her to capsize. Thus, she felt lost.
“How could it be a mistake?” Xiao Han countered, then asked, “Why would you think that?”
“Because everyone is against us!” Lan Yudie said, her lips tight.
“If everyone is against us, then we should prove that we can be happier than they could imagine!” Xiao Han said earnestly.
“But…” Lan Yudie looked helpless and added, “I am a teacher, aren’t I?”
“Actually, if we set aside our roles, none of it really matters that much.” Xiao Han looked at Lan Yudie, then said, “Don’t you think?”
“But we can’t just set aside these roles.” Lan Yudie said helplessly.
The two stood on the school’s sports field, talking face-to-face. Lan Yudie leaned against the soccer goal, while Xiao Han, holding onto the frame of the goal, faced her with a calm and unhurried smile. At first glance, Xiao Han appeared more mature between them, whereas Lan Yudie seemed like a shy young girl new to love. She kept her head down, unable to meet Xiao Han’s eyes.
Xiao Han moved closer to Lan Yudie.
“What… what are you doing?” Lan Yudie stepped back, her face turning pink.@@novelbin@@
“I want to give you some strength!” Xiao Han said earnestly, looking at Lan Yudie.
