Chapter 57 - 57 57 His Secret

Chapter 57: Chapter 57: His Secret Chapter 57: Chapter 57: His Secret After a week of in-hospital observation, it was finally confirmed that there were no major issues, but even a young person would need to rest and recuperate for three months after suffering an injury, let alone an elderly man like Grandfather Hawkins. The doctor demanded at least half a year of rest and recuperation.

When Carolline Ruiz was able to leave the hospital and go home, she was on the morning shift. At around eleven o’clock, she accompanied Grandfather Hawkins as he was discharged from the hospital. They could have left the hospital at ten o’clock in the morning, but Grandmother Hawkins delayed it until Carolline was off work.

At the entrance of the hospital, Grandmother Hawkins was still reluctant to let go of Carolline’s hand, “Carolline, you don’t have to work in the afternoon anyway, come with us back to the Hawkins Family for lunch and chat with your grandmother.”

Carolline couldn’t refuse, so she agreed. In the end, Carolline and Grandmother Hawkins got into the Hawkins Family’s private car, while Grandfather Hawkins got into Xavier Estrada’s car with Austin Hawkins and Sophia Lawson.

She called and told Emily Hill about the arrangement, and Emily agreed readily, much to Carolline’s confusion.

What Carolline didn’t know was that at this moment, her grandfather, Master Ruiz, had come to their house accompanied by the butler, discussing the matter of Simon Carrington. Master Ruiz, somehow, had heard about Simon and came to criticize Carolline for not wanting a good man like Simon, wondering what she was thinking.

Emily’s ears had grown calluses from listening; fortunately, Carolline called to say she wouldn’t be back, and Emily was relieved. After all, Carolline had told her that she would not fall for Simon.

Emily had actually thought that Simon was not bad, but since Carolline didn’t like him, she, as a mother, naturally wouldn’t insist. Now that Master Ruiz had come specifically to bring up the matter, she was even less optimistic about Simon.

She just couldn’t figure out why someone from Kyoto was so well-regarded in Master Ruiz’s eyes.

“Carolline isn’t coming back for dinner? What kind of rules have you parents set?” Upon hearing that Carolline wasn’t coming back, Master Ruiz, leaning on his crutch, jabbed it heavily on the floor twice, expressing extreme dissatisfaction.

“Young people nowadays need to make friends too, Dad.” Emily Hill was worried about her newly installed floor. Master Ruiz’s walking stick looked so heavy; it might poke two holes in her new floor.

“Yes, Dad, sometimes they have departmental gatherings, and some young people occasionally go out to have fun. It’s all normal,” Henry Ruiz also helped his wife and child.

“Keeping up with the times, huh?” Master Ruiz disapproved.

In the end, Master Ruiz stayed for lunch before leaving. He lectured Henry Ruiz and Emily Hill during the meal, but they just listened patiently. They finally decided on a dinner arrangement for the Mid-Autumn Festival, as Henry Ruiz was the eldest son in the family.

Henry suggested going out to eat, as he would cover all the expenses and didn’t want the servants of the old Ruiz mansion to be burdened. Master Ruiz wasn’t a fool and knew that his eldest son was concerned about his daughter-in-law, so he didn’t raise any objections.

Anyway, he had invited Simon Carrington that day, so as long as Carolline attended, it would be fine. As for the form of the meal and whether Emily would cook it herself, it seemed insignificant compared to this matter and he didn’t mind.

At the Hawkins Family, Carolline received a warm welcome. When she arrived home, it was lunchtime. After having lunch together, Carolline was immediately occupied by Grandmother Hawkins.

Austin Hawkins and Sophia Lawson were attending to Grandfather Hawkins during his afternoon nap.

Xavier Estrada left after doing his part and didn’t communicate much with Carolline during that time, which made her feel more at ease.

For some reason, her visit to the Hawkins Family this time felt different from her previous visits, whether it was a change in her perception or something else.

After lunch, Grandmother Hawkins led Carolline directly to Bryan Cooper’s room. This room was not the one where Bryan had stayed when he had trouble with his legs but was his original room.

This was Carolline’s first time entering such a private space of Bryan Cooper. The room was different from the previous one, with similar furnishings, such as bookcases and computers. There was also an open-air small balcony outside his room, which was the advantage of a villa.

Larger rooms usually have their own master bedroom and a small area outside the room. This private area could be decorated and turned into a personal space however one wanted.

The bed, curtains, cabinets, and bookcases were all made of the finest mahogany. Carolline had visited the Mahogany Furniture Store before, and even a small coffee table was too expensive for her, but the craftsmanship and hand feel were incredibly comfortable.

The color scheme was, of course, the dark shades that men tended to prefer. Carolline’s thoughts began to wander, as she secretly thought about where she would put a vase, how she would decorate the empty space by the bed with a large piece of art, and how she would place a few cute dolls on the bed.

Years later, Bryan would occasionally complain that she had transformed his room beyond recognition, but he was quite happy about it, and his tone was full of sweetness.

Grandmother Hawkins took out a large photo album from the drawer under the bookcase and found Carolline daydreaming when she returned. She couldn’t help but smile secretly.

“Come, Carolline, let me show you photos of Bryan when he was little.” Grandmother Hawkins pulled Carolline to a large single sofa nearby. The sofa was big enough to hold both of them.

Grandmother Hawkins sat close to Carolline and opened the album.

Carolline browsed the pictures one by one. Actually, there was not much difference between the pictures; they were merely records of a person’s growth, the most valuable treasures that every family and every child has.

Looking at these photos, watching Bryan grow from a swaddled baby to a grown man with a height of 1.85 meters, Carolline felt that at this moment, she was peering into his secrets.

She felt a little shy, a little nervous, but even more so, a thrilling excitement.
