She Asks for a Divorce Again

Chapter 120: 120 Whispers in the Ear

Chapter 120: Chapter 120 Whispers in the Ear

The police cars had already arrived on the scene.

Zhao Jin, along with a group of people, rushed forward, and the armed police quickly subdued Chen Bo on the ground.

Pei Yansi was finally freed. He stood up and turned, walking towards Shen Heyu in the corner.

Sitting on the floor, Shen Heyu tilted her head back to look at him. Her eyes were red, and seeing his pale face, she couldn’t tell if it was heartache or something else that she felt, but her chest was suffocatingly tight.

Pei Yansi knelt in front of her, reached out his hand, gently took her into his embrace, and tenderly comforted her, “It’s okay now. Don’t worry.”

Shen Heyu felt the warmth of his embrace.

Warm and strong, as if it was her only haven at that moment. She stayed silent in his arms for two seconds, wanting to reach out and hug him, yet fearing that she might touch his wounds on his back. Eventually, hesitating, she frowned and tears fell.

There were no other movements.

Pei Yansi felt her trembling, wanted to say something, but as soon as he opened his mouth, he felt utterly drained. Frowning, his strength began to fade.

He’d lost too much blood, and his head began spinning until he finally collapsed softly to the ground.

Two people dressed in white coats rushed in, lifted Pei Yansi off the ground, and said to Shen Heyu, “Don’t worry too much, we’ll stop the bleeding right away. You should come up too, for a check-up.”

Shen Heyu nodded, raised her hand to wipe her eyes, and followed them, her red tears wiped away without falling.

Outside, there was an ambulance and several police cars.

Shen Heyu stepped forward, boarded the ambulance, where someone was stopping Pei Yansi’s bleeding. His injuries were all on his back, so he could only lie prone, exposing all his wounds to view.

Shen Heyu watched with aching heart; the wounds were so deep they nearly revealed bone, and he seemed almost unconscious.

His face was pale, his eyes tightly shut, as the doctors treated his wounds without any reaction from him.

When the disinfecting alcohol was applied, he seemed to grunt reluctantly out of a physical reflex.

Shen Heyu immediately looked at him, took his hand, moved her lips wanting to say something, but in the end, said nothing.

She remained silent, gripping his hand tightly.

As if sensing her, he too squeezed her hand, muttering through his unconscious or unconscious lips, “Heyu…”

Her heart leapt at his words.

The doctor then said, “It was close to hitting an artery. Luckily it didn’t, or else his life would have been lost.”

Shen Heyu was startled.

Had it not been for his desperate effort to protect her just now, she would have been the one lying here.

Soon, the ambulance arrived at the hospital, and Pei Yansi was taken to the treatment room, while Shen Heyu was stopped outside.

The slight flesh wound on her neck had already been treated, now patched with a small plaster. She stood outside the treatment room, anxiously waiting.

During the waiting time, each minute and second seemed excruciatingly long.

She never knew that time could move so slowly. While she was waiting, she heard an anxious female voice not far down the hallway, “Mr. Pei, how is Mr. Pei?!”

Shen Heyu looked towards the source and recognized the person as Han Manyin, the one who had accompanied Pei Yansi to the wine reception last time.

Seeing her face, which was very similar to Shen Fanshuang’s, Shen Heyu’s heart sank. This must be the new substitute Pei Yansi had found…

Without Bai Sheng’er, there would always be someone else; after all, it could never be her…

Thinking this, Han Manyin had already approached her, presumptuously pushing her, “How is Mr. Pei now?”

“I don’t know,” Shen Heyu lowered her eyes.

Han Manyin observed her for a moment.

Her hair was still a mess, her clothes dirty with mud, and it seemed she also had injuries on her neck.

Under the light, her pale face made her look extremely fragile and vulnerable, the kind that could easily trigger a man’s protective instincts—especially those eyes that must have been crying, with the corners a pinkish-red.

But there was a distance in her gaze.

Han Manyin recognized her; she was the one Pei Yansi had gone to save today.

With a frown, she said coldly, “You really are a curse by Mr. Pei’s side.”

Shen Heyu looked up at her, her eyes were cool and detached, showing no emotion, as if looking at an inanimate object.

That gaze was just like the one Pei Yansi had given her before he left the company.

A shock went through Han Manyin’s chest.

Then she heard Shen Heyu say, “Who are you to criticize me? What right do you have?”

Han Manyin clenched her teeth and was too stunned to reply.

Shen Heyu gave a cold laugh. She wouldn’t dare to misbehave in front of Pei Yansi, simply because that man was not someone she could afford to provoke at will. But that didn’t mean everyone else could walk over her.

She continued, “I’ve seen many people like you around Pei Yansi. None stayed long, but I’ve been by his side for nearly ten years, regardless of his feelings towards me.”

“What right do you have to speak to me? Let alone, I have no interest whatsoever in your Mr. Pei.”

She was so absorbed in her words that she didn’t notice the lights in the treatment room had gone out, or that a nurse was wheeling out Pei Yansi, now awake. At that moment, he was looking in her direction, having heard every word she’d said.

She has no interest in me at all.

Pei Yansi repeated this to himself.

Han Manyin’s gaze towards Shen Heyu was now wary. She herself wouldn’t dare to call Pei Yansi by name, while this woman spoke so insouciantly, even with scorn for him in her tone.

She wanted to say something, but out of the corner of her eye saw Pei Yansi leaving the treatment room.

She quickly approached him, making a show of caring.

Shen Heyu stiffly turned her head and met Pei Yansi’s cold but fragile eyes. Was it because of the injury?

She paused briefly, wondering how much of what she had just said he had heard?

Pei Yansi quickly removed his gaze from her and turned to Han Manyin, asking in a deep voice, “Why are you here?”

“I…”

“Did you take what I said before I left as mere idle talk?”

Han Manyin stood awkwardly to the side, silent.

Pei Yansi didn’t say anything to her and allowed the nurses to wheel him into the ward, passing by Shen Heyu, and coldly dropped two words: “Come in.”

Shen Heyu stood rooted to the spot for a few seconds before finally giving Han Manyin a look and following Pei Yansi.

In the single patient room, only Pei Yansi was left after the nurses had wheeled him in, asked the basic questions, and left.

Now, only the two of them remained in the room.

Pei Yansi leaned back on the hospital bed, while Shen Heyu stood by the bed, looking somewhat anxious.

He watched her quietly for a long while, and couldn’t help but sneer inwardly. Was she going to stand there all day if he didn’t speak up?
